My oldest kid did not walk until he was maybe 14 months. I don't know why it took him so long! My youngest was under a year. Looking back I can say my older kid is more cerebral and my youngest more physical in their attributes. That could just be me over thinking it :) [ Reply | More ]

Maybe 15 months walking. Had perhaps 10 words at 19 months. More than 10 years later I can say for a fact that dc is more than fine. At 12 1/2 months you need to wait because walking and talking could not happen for months. [ Reply | More ]

14.5 months for DD, 13 months for DS. If you take your kid to the pediatrician for not walking at a year, it will be a complete waste of your time. A LOT of kids don't. DD was extremely verbal, but DS was not, so it doesn't always relate to that either. He's FINE. Relax. First time mom, I take it. ;) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Stupid questions for co-sleep parents. How does it work? Say your 10 month ds goes down at 7:00 pm, do you put him in the crib at that time by himself and bring him into your bed when you go to sleep, possibly waking him up? Or do you (unsafely) put him in the bed by himself at 7:00? Or do you all go to sleep at 7:00 (my dream come true, ha ha) I'm just completely curious about this, I saw Maiym Bialik talking about it on a talk show and it got me wondering. No, I'm not planning on doing this myself. 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I co-slept with them until they were done nursing or slept through the night. I would first put them to bed (just a queen mattress on the floor) and then I would goto bed when I wanted or if they woke up to eat I would likely fall asleep feeding them lol [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What does it mean when your kid says "sorry" all the time? Anything beside it being annoying? I say "please clear your dishes" and he says "sorry;" I say brush your teeth now and he says "sorry;" and if he does something a little sassy and I call him on it, the "sorry" gets more intense. He's overall a confident, strong-willed 13-year old, but I feel kind of guilty and I've started to say "Hey, don't say sorry--you haven't done anything wrong." Phase? Reversable? It's starting to worry me! 20 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP--it feels a little anxious, but I don't want a guilty kid. Frankly, it almost feels manipulative, like when I ask him 12 times to do something and he doesn't, but I get a lot "sorry" instead. Just wondering if others are experiencing this... [ Reply | More ]

Perhaps you are an abusive parent and he is trying to avoid being beaten and raped for not taking the garbage out.. although I would expect people within the silver tall community not to have to resort to taking their own garbage outside to be delivered in superior vehicles with discression. Here's a real response, one of my dds does this too- the 14 year old. It worries me sometimes too but for a different reason, I worry that she is to much of a follower, a pleaser and will get taken advantage of. We've talked about respecting yourself , understanding when you really have done something wrong etc. not sure how much has gotten through, though her confidence has grown in high school. Her younger sister is not like this at all. Good luck to both our dc! [ Reply | More ]

Public schools will let your kid take classes in higher grades if you assert that you want to do that. In HS kids can take classes at a nearby college too once they blow through all the AP classes offered. Just learn to work the system and DC will be fine. [ Reply | More ]

I think you should be thinking about the best situation in terms of actually educating the kid--not in terms of competition. I adored my competitive school. A good friend from my school theater days is now a Hollywood big shot. There's not a gay bone in his gorgeous body (which was wimpy 'way back when); he was just really interested in acting, as was I, and this is how he got started. I became a stage actress myself, and a lot of our other theater geek friends ended up in the entertainment industry, too. I'd just let the kid be a kid, and wait for him to make whatever announcement he's going to make about his sexuality if and when he's ready. [ Reply | More ]

Straight men in Musical Theater have their pick of talented gorgeous and very flirty girls. My nerdy dh discovered he liked to sing and dance and did it well. We met in a show and have been together for 20+ years. I know a lot of Tony winners who are totally straight too. That said, let him be himself and support his passion. Just let him know that if he loves it enough to want to do it to make money that it's an excellent idea to develop a parallel career (say as a personal trainer etc.) that will keep him in shape physically and financially so that he can take advantage of any performing opportunity that comes along.
