it is hard for people with anxiety to seek help because getting help is another thing that makes them anxious.

op: totally. I tried to make an appointment at Cornell for him myself and they said he needs to make it. Getting him on the phone telling some stranger he needs help--the idea has him totally worked up. On the bright side, I know if he has an appointment he'll show up. He hates inconveniencing strangers.

ask a male friend to call and pretend to be him? a bit unethical but if it is in his best interest. I suffered from anxiety when I was a teen, thankfully I mostly grew out of it, I remember when I needed help I wrote my parents a letter then had a friend pick me up so I wouldn't be home when they read it

np: I wouldn't recommend to have someone else to make an appt. He has to do it himself-- it's a step he has to initiate. If op does it for him, he will blame her later on. My BIL has anxiety/ocd, it's very difficult for the family. GL, op.

np: I was also thinking about OP today. I really hope he gets help, and if he doesn't I hope OP leaves him. I can't imagine what her little girl must be absorbing having him as a father, this weird love/hate relationship and probably a lot of guilt always wondering what she did wrong to make daddy mad at her.

Keep trying. Marriage is messy and hard. Maybe you could offer to go with him? I went with my husband when he was suffering from PTSD. It helps. But it also depends on if you want to save the marriage or not.

Most likely won't make money to save for college. It's one of those things where you have to put in thousands upfront in order to pay a photographer for head shots and to have somebody do her portfolio. Then you go to the modeling agencies and see if she can get an interview with them, many of these places receive hundreds of people every day who just want them to look at their portfolio, so this can be hard. IMO, the best children's modeling agency in NYC tends to be Wilhelmina Modeling Agency, but there are a few other top agencies such as IBM and Ford. Modeling is seriously a cut throat world though,, even for children. Unless your child is truly gorgeous and confident then don't risk setting her up for failure and throwing your money down the drain. It's also something that is taken seriously, as you both would be expected to. Not really a hobby, she would definitely have to miss school for it at times and if she got really serious would probably have to have a tutor or transfer to the professional children's school-- They have a lot of child actors and models. GL though!

I agree with that about fashion modeling, but if your child is actually interested in it commercial print and catalog modeling are more lucrative and more child friendly environments. Modeling schools are all scams and any agency that asks you for money upfront or insists you use specific photographers for headshots is a scam, a real agency should get 10-15% of what your child makes if they get their money another way they aren't legit.

I have to disagree about the thousands upfront and having a portfolio. Dd did a few baby jobs with Generation in NYC. I got an interview with the shots I took & she booked every go see she was sent on.
A real agency will not charge you for shots and you build a true portfolio by working.
That said, it's not great money and your child could easily be bored and want to do other things.
Best of luck!!

two things: 1) It's really not fun--it's WORK, it's a job. 2) there is no way you could save anything for college. At that age, it's more about how her personality and character can be translated to whatever job she gets. Not so much about her look necessarily. Any part of her body will be criticized and make her (and you) feel like shit. The only way you get paid is when you get a job. It takes a lot of interviews, go sees, and waiting (aka, missing school) until you are assigned to a job. That's IF you get something. Even if you get a job, normally the daily rate could be as low as a few hundred dollars. Between you and your dd's time, it's really not money making job at all. Seriously, you'd make more if you sell candies on subway. --former art director mom.

If your dc are under 8, try animal kingdom. The pools are great and kids love seeing animals outside the window. Otherwise i would stay at the contemporary - more convenient to magic kingdom and Epcot. But you can also do two adjoining rooms at any resort. Both of these are expensive, so if you want to save, stay off property. Btw we go twice a year, so feel free to ask any other questions.

I'm not sure why failing students fell out of favor - but it has. Rarely do children repeat grades today (summer school seems to be an excuse - but does little). This is proof that they should not offer social promotion - fail em til they drop out and then can't get a job. That will be much better for these people, no?

Mine would never do that, but she doesn't sit for us at night often and she puts the taxi on the credit card, so I KNOW she took a taxi. One time very late on a Saturday night we booked her a car service and obviously it was more expensive and she told us that she's fine taking a taxi and there was no need to spend the extra money.

It is for the benefit of the mom at the expense of the child. Howard Stern frequently talks about his mom doing this to him and him getting beaten up as a result. A mom here was looking for a 90% black school to send her daughter. the mom got hysterical when the rest of UB told her it was a bad idea

ITA. But it doesn't change the fact that hippe / hemp / granola type moms will often do this to their daughters. Howard Stern's mom was in one of these categories.

Yes that is right, those granola AA moms send their daughters to schools that are 90% white all the time. Isn't it awful. Bet it harms the daughters for life and make it into Wikipedia stories.

Thank you. White people can be so sad sometimes, and I mean this. You are so weak and insecure whenever you are not part of the majority. Do you understand how weak that is. God forbid any of you or your DCs would attend a school in which you/they are in the minority. Imagine being among those AA students whom integrated the public schools in the south. Can you picture yourself being that brave?...neither can I....

I agree with both of the above posters. Yes, if you send your white daughter to a 90% black school as the original poster did, you are heading for trouble. But other types of diversity are good

My child is not white. It is important for me and her that she not be the only child of color in her class. I would hope that it is also important for parents of white kids that their kids learn first hand that not all people are white, and that kids of color are kids just like themselves, rather than just kids from the wrong side of the tracks.

Any environment full of white people is booooooring. Nothing against white people. I'm 1/2 white. At least 1/2 my family is too - including one of my kids. Any homogenous group is pretty boring - you have to mix it up for the party to start. The food alone at our holiday meals would explain the pros of diversity - and that's just scratching the surface.

I would like for my daughter to not be the only black child in her school. We ended up choosing a school with only 1 black kid per grade because it was the best fit. I think she feels a little out of place however she would be more out of place in a poorer black school and upper class black school would be great alas we can't find one in NYC.

look for an international school, the kids get experience being around types of people they will work with later on. I tutored reading at one for a course credit in college and the students were all kids of diplomats or people that were headhunted from abroad.

You have one Nanny watching 3 kids one with behavioral issues and you are upset because she is stressed out and think your son is awful, well by all means fire her but know that no one can make your kids feel loved other than their parents. My Nanny showed me more love than either of my parents but it doesn't erase the hurt, resentment, or bitterness that I feel. I also have serious self esteem problems until this day and it is not or a lack of love from others but from a lack of feeling as if I was wanted, loved, and belonged to my parents. I had plenty of love from my grandparents, aunts, uncles and my Nanny who I am leaving my children to if something happens to me, notice not my parents, but no one can ever make a child feel loved if they don't feel loved by their parent. Vent Over

OR, OP here and I feel for you... but this is not the same situation; I love my kids tremendously and they all know that. I spend a lot of time with them for a WOHM, I work from home 2 days a week, I read and sing to them every single night, I cuddle them and tell them I love them every day. It is DH who has been verbally, emotionally and sometimes physically abusive to DS and to me... he has hurt us all and that is why we are separating/divorcing. We are all in therapy. It really sucks. I hope that you can find peace with your parents.

I would be very upset if I saw this. My nanny truly LOVES my DD. She is a grandmother. There are other issues I need to deal with (i.e. language barrier) but I'm willing to overlook those because I know my DD is being loved. You can find it.

Sigh. You just never know. Someone who cared for two of my children for *years* at a very nice center - and we loved this lady - moved on to a nanny position. I see her now on FB all the time complaining about her charges. Do I think she's abusive or inappropriate to them? No way. Do I think that she has displayed poor judgment? Yes, and that would affect how likely I'd be to ever employ her privately. One thing OP - is this a once-off or repeated? I think people often screw up and say things they wish they could retract the next day online, so if this is the only time, you might put her on notice if you're a forgiving sort and you think she deserves it. If repeated, who knows how else her judgment might suck... to the curb.

yes -- you tell her: (1) no posting pictures of my kids, and (2) no unsecured blogs or comments about my kids -- I have au pairs. I tell this this day 1. with my 1st au pair, I found her unsecured blog before she arrived, but after we matched. I was a bit upset, but it ended up fine. I just told her no posting because (a) it is a security issues and (b) my child is a child and does not need to fine these blogs/posts as a teenager and feel bad about herself for being a child when she was a kid. Get a new nanny, be clear with the next on.

There is only one garage door, so I can tell if someone is coming in our out. She is just a control freak. It's just annoying that she thinks I don't know he shouldn't be running around. I'm not an idiot. My kid is just a fast runner and I'm working on getting him to learn not to run off. It's just not as simple as she's making it out to be, which she would know if she'd ever had kids.

I have 3 kids and I think it's pretty simple. Don't let your kids run the garage!

I can't put my 18 mo old in a stroller to go from the garage to the condo because it's up a flight of stairs. No elevator. Not so simple, is it??

LOL, you're not a NYC mom, are you? We all know how to climb stairs with a stroller AND can keep our kids from running away.

You can't control and keep your DS safe and you're mad at the neighbor?

He IS safe. We're in an enclosed garage. There are no cars zooming around. Sometimes he does make a direct beeline for the car. And you can go F yourself, sanctimommy.

Look, clearly you wanted nothing but supportive fussing over your "bitchy" neighbor making a fuss about your toddler RUNNING AROUND IN A PARKING GARAGE, but you're getting more than you wanted. I'll add to it. I think you're being lazy and your attitude is dangerous. You won't/can't control your toddler in a situation in which he could be seriously hurt or killed. And yes, I do mean killed. A good friend's older sister lost her son to such an accident IN A PARKING GARAGE. It happens. You're being an idiot, and we're letting you know it.

why would you want your toddler run in the garage? It's filled with gas fumes, polluted air, and probably not lit well. How is that safe? You need to be punched to realize how bad it is for your kid.
