"Brave New World": Bungie's next gen IP Destiny to be revealed at GDC

Discover the "place where the next ten years of great Bungie adventures will unfold."

Bungie is set to reveal previously unseen details of their gargantuan new, Activision-published Destiny project for next generation consoles at this year's Game Developers Conference, held from 25th-29th March.

The convention's schedule reveals that writer and design director Joe Staten and art director Christopher Barrett will "discuss their world building techniques" during an hour long talk. Apparently, "attendees will walk away with key insights into Bungie's battle-tested design process. They'll get a glimpse of the brave new world that has been built, a place where the next ten years of great Bungie adventures will unfold."

This will be the first time Bungie has discussed its new IP in public, following the leak of concept art and story details last year. According to the documentation, Destiny takes place 700 years in the future, with human civilisation on the brink of ruin. Players take on the role of "knights," tasked with defending the remnants of humanity. Despite this weighty theme, the game is said to be "fun and accessible" and "social at its core".

A Destiny leak from last November makes mention of customisable guns, a day-night cycle, tie-in web and mobile apps, masses of foliage and exploration that's comparable to PC classic Elite. Is this the kind of game you can see yourself playing in 10 years time?
