Why is He famous
Jonah Peretti, who’s been called a “viral marketing hotdog” by the New York Times, a “computer whiz” by The New Yorker and “the poster boy of guerrilla media” by AlterNet, is an internet entrepreneur who co-founded both BuzzFeed and The Huffington Post. Men’s Vogue once ranked Jonah as one of America’s top 13 visionaries. Time, The Economist, Fortune, and Business Insider have all covered his work, and he’s appeared as a guest on The Today Show, Good Morning America and CNN.
Jonah Peretti Quote
" “You’re coming to Buzzfeed’s homepage not for yourself, but to find something to share with someone else.”"
75 Magnetism
Peretti is a wealthy entrepreneur who’s yet to hit forty, and if we learned anything from The Social Network, then we know that being a wildly intelligent web-visionary and having success with the ladies doesn’t always go hand-in-hand. Then again, he does have a smoking hot wife, so Jonah may be closer to Justin Timberlake’s version of Sean Parker than Jesse Eisenberg’s Mark Zuckerberg.
91 Success
The Huffington Post, which Peretti co-founded along with four others including Arianna Huffington, is one of the most popular and influential political websites in the world. In February of 2007, AOL acquired The Huffington Post for a staggering $315 million and in 2012 it became the first commercially run digital media enterprise to win a Pulitzer Prize.
Jonah Peretti Biography
Jonah Peretti is a graduate of the MIT Media Lab and has taught at both NYU and the Parsons School of Design. The world first became aware of him through his experiments with viral media, most notably a 2001 email exchange with Nike’s customer service department that became an instant online hit. At the time, Nike had been offering customizable sneakers, but cancelled Peretti's order for a pair emblazoned with the word "sweatshop." In a comedy of back-and-forth emails, Peretti said he wanted to mark "the toil and labor of the children that made my shoes."
He never received his shoes.
THE HUFFINGTON POST
In May of 2005, Peretti linked up with four other cyber mavens and created The Huffington Post, a news website, content aggregator and blog. Although Arianna Huffington, the site’s figurehead, has stated that the paper is "not positioned ideologically in terms of how we cover the news," representatives of the Republican Party have indicated that they believe the website to be hostile toward their views.
BUZZFEED
Buzzfeed, which Peretti co-founded in 2006, is an online hub dedicated to everything viral, be it video, image, link, article, or game. Buzzfeed is ridiculously popular -- its users have even been reported to share at a higher rate than either Facebook’s or Twitter’s.
