Sony assemble screenshot

How long does it take to assemble Sony's latest and greatest consumer gadgets? Just over five minutes, according to a video released by the company. The CES-inspired clip shows individual Sony engineers piecing together (by hand) the Xperia Z, Cyber-shot RX1, and one of its camcorders. There doesn't appear to be any time manipulation happening, and it's genuinely fascinating to see how quickly...

Lenovo enters the Chromebook market with the $429 ThinkPad X131e

Lenovo ThinkPad X131e Chromebook

Lenovo's ThinkPad lineup has been one of the best and best-known series of Windows computers over the last two decades, but it looks like Lenovo's expanding the brand: the company has just released the ThinkPad X131e Chromebook, its first computer powered by Google's web-based Chrome OS. There's already a Windows-powered X131e, and it looks like Lenovo hasn't changed much besides the operating system. The Chromebook is primarily designed for students, and Lenovo's touting its rugged design (there's a bumper around the edge in case it's dropped, and even the hinges are extra sturdy) as much as its specs. The four-pound, 11.6-inch laptop comes with an Intel processor — Lenovo doesn't specify which, but it's a safe guess to say it won't be a high-powered Core i5 or i7 — plus a 1366 x 768 display, HDMI and VGA ports, a webcam, and a...

According to Bloomberg, Amazon and Apple representatives must meet on March 21st to try and reach a settlement; both companies must bring their lead attorneys and people who have the full power to negotiate and possibly settle the case. The case centers around Amazon's use...

GoBank is a banking service designed for the age of the smartphone app

GoBank

Online-only banking app Simple launched its Android app today, but it already has a new competitor in the form of GoBank. As reported by AllThingsD, the service is the brainchild of prepaid card provider Green Dot. The company bought an FDIC-insured bank in 2011 in order to power the operation, and then last March picked up the location-based app Loopt. The acquisitions have let Green Dot take its stab at rethinking banking with today's...

AT&T; entices Nexus 7 buyers to sign up for two-year data contract with $100 statement credit

Nexus 7 with mobile

AT&T said last year it was going cease subsidized pricing for tablets, but that hasn't stopped the carrier from trying to convince customers to sign up for two-year contracts in exchange for a little extra cash. The carrier is now advertising a deal on the HSPA+ Nexus 7 page on Google Play saying that it'll refund a $100 bill credit to those who agree to a two-year data contract. Just like a similar deal from last year, it isn't a very good...
