In early January, Facebook began testing free calling over Wi-Fi and cellular data for all Messenger for iPhone users in Canada, and said that a US launch could be coming soon. Apparently, the test went well — a new free calling button has appeared in the app. Facebook has confirmed to The Verge that the feature began rolling out to US users today, and requires no update through the App...

Google says 'never ass-ume,' proves Street View car avoided hit-and-run with donkey

Google Street View Donkey

We try not to be surprised by what Google's Street View cars record as they make their way around the world's roads, but Google found itself in a bit of trouble this week when users pointed to a series of photos in Botswana that suggested that one of its drivers had mowed down a donkey. The search company has seen it fit to provide definitive proof that it hadn't perpetrated a hit-and-run by releasing the original source images used in the 360-degree street view panoramas. Morel had posted several photos of the wreckage after the earthquake to Twitter via TwitPic;...

Wired takes a look at the origins of the new feature, from Mark Zuckerberg's first pitch to former-Googler Lars Rasmussen, to how...

Facebook Graph Search hands-on: a brand new social search

facebook hands on lead

We just got a chance to play with Facebook’s new Graph Search with our personal account, and it’s decidedly not a small addition to the site. The entire top menubar has been redesigned, with universal search pinned to the top left, and the friend request, messages, and notification buttons moved over to the far right of the screen. Similarly, you’ll notice subtle tweaks to the icon design and coloring. But most important: the word...
