Official Pokedex iOS app released

$2 illustrated encyclopedia app now available for iOS devices in NA and Europe; four additional packs available for $6 each.

The Pokemon Company today launched an official Pokedex application for iOS devices in North America and Europe. This illustrated encyclopedia contains entries for more than 640 Pokemon creatures and launched last month in Japan. The Pokedex app costs $2, requires iOS 6, and is optimized for the iPhone 5. No mention was made of a release through Google Play.

Similar to its in-game counterpart, the Pokemon Pokedex iOS app provides a range of data, including information regarding how to evolve a certain Pokemon, locations where specific creatures are located, and which types of attacks Pokemon are susceptible to.

With the $2 purchase for the Pokedex app, users are granted access to the Unova Pokedex (Pokemon numbers 494-647). Other sets are available for $6 each, meaning players will need to spend about $26 to hold a complete Pokedex.

The additional packs include the Kanto Pokedex (Pokemon numbers 001-151), the Johto Pokedex (Pokemon numbers 152-251), the Hoenn Pokedex (Pokemon numbers 252-386), and the Sinnoh Pokedex (Pokemon numbers 383-493).

What the frak Nintendo?  I pay 2 dollars for a Pokedex.  It should be the entire thing.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my Lukomon Pokedex for my phone then.

Well if the basic pack costs $2 then I don't even want to know what you are missing out on by not paying $6 for each other pack...Unless this is the RE-download fee, in which case you will scare me away from mobile apps forever.

Hmm, $26 for the full Pokedex? You could almost get a whole new Pokemon game for that much!

One word: Bulbapedia. No matter how far this thing goes, it'll never become a better source than Bulbapedia, specially if you actually PLAY a Pokémon game. That's just a disposable app under every possible term.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to spend money on a pokedex? It's a waste.

Okay, here's how you get adults into pokemon. Start at the beginning with Ash renamed Ashtrey alright? Now he wakes up late in the series because he oversleeps. In the new adult series he wakes up from a hangover induced from a night of hardcore partying. He wakes up and decides that he wants to make the big dollar and be famous by being an underground pokemon trainer which involves tormenting these poor creatures to a point where they kill the other in vicious combat. Team Rocket is a black ops police organization tasked with stopping this barbaric practice and renamed Team PEGGing- People for the Ethical Grace of Gladiator pokemon.

Typical overpriced Nintendo product.

@Mr_BillGates With that avatar, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or serious. In any case, Nintendo is actually known for pricing their stuff relatively low, with the exception of this one app, maybe.

Official Nintendo content on something other than a Nintendo device. The universe is going to implode!

lol $26.

For a real pokedex, sure? For glorified digital tables located in a 2 second google search? Laughable. The joke will be on me though when they report their sales numbers in Japan though.

@XZeroKPS Available on 3DS for 15$, full dex, free for Unova(no longer available), difference is 11$ goes to apple.

@RippleLaser Additionally, I feel like this should be included in the article along with what you said as to why the price difference is so great.

@XZeroKPS And I forgot to add, 3DS version is obviously 3D capable, and dual screen can show more info at once.
