Final Fantasy 13 Review Round Up  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Category: Final Fantasy 13
Final Fantasy 13 launched yesterday in North America and Europe. To celebrate were going to be posting some FF 13 related news and impressions over the next few days. Lets start things off with a quick round of the major reviews FF 13 has received from the North American press.

IGN Review

"Final Fantasy XIII is a great JRPG and sports a fast-paced, challenging, satisfying battle system. The game also boasts an intricate story, a likeable cast of characters and the best visuals in the series yet (of course).

But hardcore Final Fantasy fans might be disappointed by the game's abandonment of franchise traditions like open worlds, town exploration and complex mini-games. The game is still worth buying, but it doesn't quite feel as complete as its well-loved predecessors.

1Up Review

"I honestly didn't expect to enjoy FFXIII much, being a fan of RPGs with intricate systems and lots of freedom to explore, but it eventually won me over by focusing on a few core features and doing them incredibly well. It's not without its shortcomings; the first half of the game suffocates from its glacial pace and constrained game mechanics. The plot is awfully trite, too. FFXIII builds steam as it advances, though; it may well be the first Final Fantasy that actually gets better the longer you play rather than fizzling out in an aimless mess around 2/3 of the way through."

Kotaku Impressions

"One way to sum up Final Fantasy XIII is that it is a Horse-With-Blinders-On Simulation. It's about progress, and moving forward. It's not without a little bit of kleptomania, however, as sometimes there are little offshoots from the main path. Usually, you can see these offshoots coming a half a mile away, and, thanks to the mini-map's super-GPS level of readability, you can also see that the offshoots do, in fact, end after a distance of about ten game-world feet."

Final Fantasy 13 Leveling System Details  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Final Fantasy 13
The leveling system from Final Fantasy 13 is beginning to come in to focus. According to Japanese magazine Shonen Jump FF13 does not have a traditional RPG leveling system. Instead of traditional leveling your characters will earn CP (Cyrstal Points) after every battle. You can then exchange these points for skills and abilities.

More information about the FF13 Crystal Points and item systems are expected to be revealed later this month in Famitsu. As soon as we get those details we will pass them along.

Print News | Category: Final Fantasy 13
Is the North American release date for Final Fantasy 13 coming sooner than expected? If a supposed casting call released on 1up.com is to be believed than the answer is yes. This exclusive never before seen look at Final Fantasy 13 is scheduled to be filmed in the coming weeks.

The Japanese version goes on sale on December 17th and this supposed new advertisement should be unveiled before then. Until we get further word from Square consider this whole thing rumor. For a glimpse of the casting call check out the article on 1up.

  FF13 Japanese Promotional Drink Coming  [ 1 Comment ]
Print News | Category: Final Fantasy 13
The latest promotional drink for Final Fantasy 13 is about to hit Japan. In the past Square Enix has partnered with beverage company Suntory to release drinks centered around other properties. The FF13 version will be coming in two flavors (pardon the pun) the collectable cans only and one partnered with a collectable figure.

No pricing for either beverage was revealed but they will be released in early December. If only they could release it over on this side of the pacific.

Final Fantasy 13: New Characters, Save Data And More  [ Comment ]
Print News | Category: Final Fantasy 13
IGNs Japanese correspondent John Tanaka brings us many new tidbits about Final Fantasy XIII, Versus 13 and other square projects. It turns out that the recently revealed character of Oerba Yun Fang was going to be a male. It was also stated they toned down the sex appeal of lead character lightening and moved it to Fang. This was done so that the players would have an easier time distinguishing between the two.

Square also revealed that a new character will be announced fairly soon. Although the name of character was not revealed it was hinted that Who is one character who always appears in final fantasy. This version of Cid will have a major role in the story!

They also discussed some system specifics. You will only ever seen a load screen once while playing Final Fantasy XIII. When switching between the town and the over world! Also they revealed that there will be no hard drive installation and save files will take up 500KBs.

There are lots of more information in Johns report. Click here to read up!

  Final Fantasy 13 Could Move 500,000 PS3s
Print News | Category: Final Fantasy 13
The big boss at Famitsu believes that Final Fantasy 13 could help boost the PS3 install base by a whopping 500,000 units when the game releases this December in Japan. This extravagant number doesnt seem so farfetched when you look at how well the recent price drop has done selling 150,000 units in just one week.

Will FF13 be the sales monster that Square and Sony are expecting? Only time will tell but they are preparing a bundle for non-PS3 owners that includes a PS3 slim and the game.
