Final Fantasy VII

"Death, Rebirth, Life" - another resonant mix title, given our kickstarter's resurrection & second-life success. I'm proud to announce that we've hit our first stretch goal (and then some!), meaning that all backers at $50 & above will ALSO be getting shiny, 4-DISC physicals of FF7: Voices of the Lifestream!! I'm seriously psyched about this since the limited run of promotional physicals we did at the time contained one "sampler" audio CD and a DVD-ROM, and also omitted credit for Bladiator's track AND cut it off. So Blad will be getting a courtesy copy to right past wrongs, for the first time a proper four CD package will exist, AND just as we celebrated the relaunch with an FF6 mix, we've got Anti-Syne in the house with some 80's electronica FF7 to celebrate the stretch goal being met!! Jack writes:

"I wanted to try something 80's this time, so I thought I'd go all in with synths everywhere, big drums, cheesy choir aahs, orchestral hits, lo-fi slap bass sounds and staccato piano chords. In terms of the arrangement I gave the ReMix a new chord structure and kept it all in the same key, rather than switching between two keys like the original does. It's mostly JENOVA but there are little bits of the battle theme in there. Hope you enjoy it!"

Really excellent modulation & DSP here to make all the eighties staple sounds really POP. It might actually have been more authentic to have a muddier mix with less impact, because I don't remember most music of the era sounding this slick, but I like having the best of both worlds - impeccable 80's nostalgia goodness with modern production values and a couple bits of updated instrumentation to match. LOVE THOSE TOM FILLS. The ReMixer does an excellent job of keeping the source front-and-center and identifiable, but varying its dominance and changing the overall context to fit the genre. I'd love to hear Jack collab with some vocalists the way Dj Mystix has been doing, since I think this track could have had a rockin' 80s vocal to match, but either way it's an enjoyable, doubly-nostalgic jam that'll make you want to put on a jean jacket and say "Rad!" for no reason. Don't deny your destiny. Congrats to Anti-Syne for another excellent mix, and stay tuned as mix #2500 is revealed, along with other important news!

I've always hated Jenova's theme. That said, I love this remix! It takes a song that's meant to be dark, and you made it into a cheery fun song. Kudos, good sir, kudos.

Hm, you've given it an 80's disco feel. Interesting.
The stabs at 0:43 were an interesting transition.
Really nice lead at 1:06. Some creative stuff going on here. It's not overly impressive, but it's pretty cool. Sweet toms too.
Now that I think about it, the beginning and end leads sound like a guitar. xD

Damn, this is sweet! Great vibe that definitely has that 80's feel but just kinda updates it somewhat. Love the arrangement and the sound design. Very catchy and "rad"!

Hey, this is pretty dang smart. Really like the 180 on the original feel. Very well done. Didn't remind me of the 80's as much as you probably wanted it to, but I got what you were going for there. Good times!

I need my awesome 80's perm, leg warmers, a neon headband/suspenders and THIS track playing in my Walkman. Totally b*tch*n'!
There. I've dated myself. I'm done.

Lol......I like it! It takes a tune that I've always felt has an innate mystery or darkness to it, and makes it............not......? :-)
Good creativity in the remixing.

Wow... I can't believe this works lol.
It really needs a girl singing.

- jnWake on September 29, 2012
All this needs now is the voice of an 80's singer.

Gotta say, this is honestly a direction I never would've thought of taking J-E-N-O-V-A - and it completely works. Good idea, great execution, definitely a track I'm going to be listening to for a long time. :nicework:

It has such a strong synth sound and some light bass, with familiar Final Fantasy melodies. Very fun to listen to.

Gosh. > u < I usually hate ReMixes that take so much liberty with the impact of the song, but this just plain works.
I can just imagine Jenova dancing in an 80's disco club while listening to this.
