Velocity is an exceptional and in many ways ground breaking game. To call it the best mini out there is doing it a disservice. In truth, Velocity is a must have game on whatever system you can get it on.

I love this game, and have easily clocked up seven hours plus on it. Velocity is easy to pick up, yet provides plenty of challenge for those wishing to seek out every little secret it has to offer. It looks good, sounds sublime and will satiate those will enjoy shooting the hell out of things whilst also engaging their brains a little bit. Not only is it the best mini I've ever played, but it could also stand toe to toe with some of the PSN's big hitters.

This is the best mini I've ever played. It's fun, the play is good, atmosphere is great, music is fantastic and above all ... it's addictive!

FuturLab took the familiar concept of a shoot 'em up, gave it some new life and threw in some unique mechanics that really make the game shine.

A milestone for retro-revival-fans – innovative retro-looking gameplay, hour-long action fun for just a few bucks guaranteed!

Challenging, fun and hypnotic, Velocity is one of the best mini games you'll experience.
  7. While the controls are a bit too sensitive making some levels torturous (especially the bonus stages where touching the environment means instant death), Velocity ends up being one of the most addictive and rewarding games ever made. We honestly can't get enough. [August 2012, p81]
  8. A compulsive bite-sized gaming chunk.

Easy to learn, difficult to master and packed with content, Velocity is not only an excellent Mini, but it may also be one of the best offerings on Sony's diminutive platform. Playable in small chunks or for extended gaming sessions, Velocity is a perfectionist's dream. This is one game guaranteed to give you your money's worth, many times over.

Despite its hectic invention, then, Velocity retains a rare kind of focus. Vita owners finally have something tart to see them through the drought, and the Minis just got a new standard bearer.

Velocity is an intelligent shmup that takes its presentation notes from the past while looking forward for its systems of play.

Velocity is a fresh gaming experience that everyone should play. The portable nature of this title will make shmups lovers and casual gamers happy for a ridiculous price.

A truly remarkable achievement: it's inventive, clever and brimming with ideas. Most impressively, it shows an emerging developer at the very top of its game; one that, based on the evidence of this outing, is destined to do wonderful things in the future.

It's not the modest price that makes you love Velocity, though, it's the ideas – the casual, confident creativity and gradually unfolding scope of its levels. It's a super experiment with the 80s vertical shooter form, sticking conservatively to a familiar aesthetic whilst it innovates wildly elsewhere.

Velocity is the product of a tiny yet extremely talented british studio that, should they continue along these lines, have a grand future ahead of them.

Fantastic in its own right, Velocity could well be a stepping stone towards something incredible. [Sept 2012, p.68]

Velocity's greatest problem, sadly, is that it's a PS Mini and almost certainly destined to a life of obscurity because of it. As it stands, though, FuturLab's latest effort showcases the potential quality of high-quality, modest-price titles on a digital handheld storefront.

Velocity is a small but nice shooter-puzzle-mix with a comforting retro atmosphere.

Velocity looks like a blast from the past and plays like anything but; it's some sort of triumph of substance over style. That sounds like a good thing, and it is, but a little more of the latter wouldn't have hurt.

Could be an '80s arcade classic. [Aug 2012, p.79]

Velocity is for the most part a fun and inventive little shooter that offers lots of content for very little outlay.

Though there are better looking and more accessible indie puzzlers to play, there are few that will leave you as bewildered and addicted through its alien concepts. What Velocity lacks in scope and variety, it makes up for in originality.
