Diablo III To Introduce Paragon System In Next Patch
No, this doesn't mean Paragon interrupts.
08.20.12 - 8:11 PM

Rumor has it that there were things that some gamers didn't care for about Diablo III. (And if you can believe Facebook, some developers, too.) Blizzard has heard the complaints, and they are making some huge changes to the game in patch 1.0.4. Not just skill updates, although there will be plenty of those. Not just improvements to the way that legendary items are rolled, but those will be there too.

Today, they announced a completely new game mechanic called the Paragon system, which kicks in once a character hits level 60. After that point, XP goes toward "Paragon levels," which start at level 1 and are capped at level 100. For each level, the player will get improvements to their base stats, just like they did in their initial 60 levels, but the real draw to Paragon levels is that each one grants the player an additional 3% magic find and 3% gold find bonus. At Paragon level 100, the character will have 300% magic find and 300% gold find all the time, with no need to wear equipment that focuses on those attributes.

To keep the system from being abused, magic and gold find percentages now have a hard cap of 300%. So even if a Paragon level 100 character were to wear equipment with bonuses to those stats, it would do them no good. The developers say that their goal with this system is to enjoy gameplay and the hunt for great loot even after hitting the level cap by providing incentive to keep playing while reducing the incentive to focus on just one kind of equipment.

For more details about Paragon levels and all of the other gameplay improvements coming in patch 1.0.4, check out the Diablo III blog post below. No date has yet been given for the patch's release, but Blizzard promises that they will announce one "in the days ahead."
