Looking back, it’s hard to believe that I’ve been playing RPGs for close to twenty years. In 1990, my parents got me the first Final Fantasy game for the NES, and I was mesmerized by the fact that I could actually change the characters within a video game. It wasn’t long after that until Final Fantasy IV came out, and offered a legitimate story to go along with the customization and gameplay I’d learned to love in turn-based RPGs. That was it. I was hooked.
Nowadays, I consider myself pretty well-versed in RPGs, both newer titles and old. The games I enjoy the most are the ones that have a smart plot and an engaging customization system. While I’ve got particular soft spots for titles like the original Ogre Battle, Shadowrun (Genesis version), Final Fantasy IV/VI, and others, I’d always like to be introduced to a new challenge. Though I’ll never have the time or money to play every great RPG, I’m always trying to catch up on the best games that I’ve missed.
Here at RPGFan, you can find me updating the release date section of the site, writing and editing reviews (and the occasional preview), and taking part in many of our features and discussions. I feel very fortunate to be part of a staff that is as easy to work with and fun as they are knowledgeable.
I have plenty of other hobbies outside of gaming. When I’m not writing for RPGFan, I’m usually working, writing about something else, watching sports, reading, or spending time with my fiancée and our dog.
