No matter in which era, Tekken always rocks.

So, 2012 may not have been the best year for games, but at least it was a fantastic year for game music.

I've never played Journey before but from fan reaction, I assume it is a fantastic game. The one negative I will say about it is that the trailers for the gameplay of Journey look pretty boring. Congrats to the developers for making (what I assume) is a fantastic game but on the flip side, the promotional people didn't string anything interesting together to entice me to buy it.

It's still a shame that they didn't bring gravity rush to PS3, the platform it was originaly meant for.

Great vid, but here are some of my favorites you missed:

-Lone Survivor not only has some fantastic eerie ambient music, it surprises on the  more melodic front as well: http://goo.gl/ZoAw8 , http://goo.gl/24zLi

-Awesomenauts has it's own -awesome- themesong: http://goo.gl/HCczP

--As well as some excellent loony stage music: http://goo.gl/BdcqI

-Best boss battle music goes to Treasure Adventure Game: http://goo.gl/R0G79

-Katawa Shoujo's soundtrack is often sweet: http://goo.gl/dfqWG , http://goo.gl/yu5dI

--But pulls no dramatic punches when it wants to: http://goo.gl/malDY

-Asura's Wrath wins 'best track to kick a** to': http://goo.gl/J0M6P

-Halo's new composer relied much more on bombast over style than the previous one, in my opinion, but '117' was great nonetheless: http://goo.gl/tdRfw

-XCOM had some notable music, and I think this track conveys the 'XCOM STRESS, **** IS ****ED' the best: http://goo.gl/FmuV2

That was my selection, hope you enjoyed!

The soundtracks from FEZ, Kid Icarus, and Katawa Shoujo were jawdropping at times.

The music that matches some games is better than the game itself, with all this rakish that's been in the market this year

I would have been better if it would've been like "Cinametechu!" at the beginning :)  Man ... G4, you went down...

Applause for all the composers featured. Enjoyable to see the sometimes overlooked or under-appreciated parts of games highlighted.

Admittedly, I usually turn down music and do not get to appreciate that portion of the games.

Kudos.

@TBear7130 Haha! Tell me about it! Featuring the almost 100 composers/performers might be a nightmare but they definitively deserve it!

WHY THE HELL DOES NO ONE EVER MENTION STARHAWK? C'mon it was different, it felt epic, and even though some tracks sounded repetitive it still always got me hyped when I was driving, flying and fighting in it's universe.

An End Once and For All is such a beautifully somber piece.

Some really great songs. I love Hydrogen from Hotline Miami. I've listened to that song so many times, it's really good.

FTL has some great music, Farcry 3, Xcom, they all have some great tracts that put the mood right for the game, Journey is great, ME3 has some really touching music,  the ending of Xcom was somewhat emotional because of all the stress and work put into Ironman mode, also because of attachment to a certain character that just wouldn't die!

A few nice tracks in there, but it's mostly very generic and sounds the same.

How can they not have "I'm Proud of You" from the ME3 soundtrack. The closing song is great, but it's the music where SPOILER SPOILER "with the view" that is probably the most emphatic and emotional.

Hotline Miami wins in terms of overall soundtrack. Not once was there a piece of music that didn't seem to fit the game. And why is Faster Than Light not on here?!

For FF XIII-2, should have used Noel's theme- Final Journey or New Bodhum or even other songs. there are far better selections than the Run. And no Halo 4? the Halo franchises have always been a staple for video game soundtracks, it should be on the list with Legacy or Arrival as its song
