I'm a programmer and game designer for a one man indie game studio. I went for a bachelor of computer science at a local university majoring in programming, it was my intention to get on with a majot game studio but as I studied and learned more about the industry I came to realize I'd rather be an indie developer. I prefer to do things my own way and working for someone else just was doing things my way so I got a day job in retail and code my games on my days off.
It's taken me years to get to where I am, I came out of university not really sure how to go about designing or even coding games but I didn't give up and now I can code the games I want and don't have to code the games someone else wants. I don't think we should all go indie but for me it was the right choice, I've always been my own man and don't really agree with many of society's views.
I founded Alien Invader Studio to make games for those of us who enjoy sci-fi and fantasy more then the average joe/jane. I don't care about making millions of dollars (though I wouldn't mind that either), I do care about making games that matter to me and people who share my interests and values.
I'm known to lock horns with people who disagree with me on things that matter to me, in fact I've made more then a few enemies by opening my mouth and denouncing that which I'm against.
I love the language C#, and I'm a lesser fan of C++ and Python, Java is one of those languages I gave a shot and found it wasn't for me (to tell you the truth I have a hard time understanding why anyone likes it beyond being very cross platform).
I'm a huge fan of science fiction (even though a lot of stuff in it is clearly BS) but I also really enjoy fantasy, I'm not a fan of "realism" (in fact I generally hate it in my gameing). I tend to design/develop sci-fi and fantasy games exclusively but on occasion I do something a little more mundane.
When it comes to game designs I'm nearly always at odds with the mainstream but it doesn't take a genius to realize mainstream values have not really served the medium well. I'm proud to be a geek/nerd (geekerd?) and I wont change for anyone. I am the change in the world I'd like to see, even if plenty of others disagree.
