Sony Patents Redesigned Move Controller

A new patent from Sony suggests the company is working on a redesigned, customizable Move controller.

Published just last week, the patent reveals images of the more ergonomic Move controller seen above. Another image suggests that the controller would feature interchangeable faceplates:

Additionally, a third faceplate is shown connecting two Move wands into a standard controller configuration:

While another image shows that two Move controllers can also be connected end-to-end, for some reason or another:

And finally, this last picture suggests that Sony is actually trying to patent stupidity:

Sony has patented a wide variety of zany Move designs, some of which have been released, and others that haven't. We'll have to wait to see what comes of the company's newest filing, but I personally can't wait to strap some move controllers to my feet and break my neck.

  • I'm not flexible enough for that last image.. @_@
  • Looks kind of cool. Better than the controller they have now. But I don't think that many people could pull that move off in the last image without hurting themselves.
  • LMAO that last image. Oh man... yeah, I'm still not interested.
  • And I thought it couldn't get any worse.

  • oh for f*** sake nobody wants to play with these stuppid gimmicky crap things lol, how immensely 2007 of sony.
  • oh for f*** sake nobody wants to play with these stupid gimmicky crap things lol, how immensely 2007 of sony.

  • i guess this means 100% that they are going to use them all seeing how they made patents for them.

  • NO. Lets just put this to bed Sony. PLEASE!

  • I'll need to take some yoga lessons before trying this

  • Bicycle kick for the win! Your move Microsoft
  • Apparently, failing once isn't good enough for Sony.
  • it looks like a *** still...

  • That last one is what motion gaming is all about. It's just a cheap gimmick until the game actually recognizes you doing a bicycle kick. Now I want one where I can skydive, and roll around the floor to do tricks. Just think of the reactions when someone suddenly enters the room.

  • Now if only they could get people to care about the Move to begin with..   So much wasted time/resources on this nonsense.  The Wii captured the bulk of the motion control audience, then the Kinect captured a few more.  It's a dead for Sony at this point.

  • Interesting... I really hope they dont do the feet thing, Im afraid that wouldnt work out and wouldnt sell. But we will see in time.
  • It's like beating a dead horse.
  • Glowing vibrating wand with double sided, warming/cooling and finger attachments... Also smells like old tuna, and comes complete with "hip harness"

    O.o
  • Uhh.... what is this?
  • I only ever used the Move for LittleBigPlanet, so if they do release a redesign, I don't think I'll replace the controllers I currently own. Also, that last image is one of the best pictures I have seen in months.
  • I actually kinda like the idea of the two move controllers connecting to make a standard controller, though they'd have to change the analog stick positions.
