Case Closed GN 45 Not all mysteries are created equal, and the stories in this volume are inconsistent at best. They try to tweak the murder-mystery formula in different ways—but these variations can backfire.
Blast of Tempest episodes 1-12 The first half of this good-looking action/drama from Bones is an ode to Shakespeare in more than just its name. Great characters and lots of twists give it a strong start, but it gets bogged down under the weight of its own cleverness.
Thermae Romae GN 1 Thermae Romae is far more interesting than a formulaic story about public bathing ought to be.
Psycho-Pass episodes 1 - 11 streaming On the whole, Psycho-Pass is a grim, interesting show that poses some philosophical questions about what makes a criminal. We are all capable of doing bad things at times – should we be punished because we thought of hurting someone before we act on it?
Sword Art Online episodes 15-25 SAO may be over, but the VR game-related drama isn't, as the series pushes through its Fairy Dance arc. Though it shows little improvement in writing quality, it is still entertaining.
Valkyria Chronicles A mixed-gender militia squad must help defend its country from invaders in this 2009 game adaptation. Strengths in character development and military adventures balance out flaws, making this a satisfying (if unspectacular) view.
Gekijō-ban Tiger & Bunny -The Beginning- Judged as a spinoff for fans of the show, Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning is a fair enough “special,” even if fans themselves would have preferred something 100% new. Judged as a stand-alone film, it has all the problems associated with TV spinoffs; it's episodic and disjointed, without any sturdy arc or momentum.
The Earl & the Fairy GN 3 & 4 The Earl and the Fairy may not end as neatly as we would have liked, but it is still an enjoyable series. If taken for what it is, this is a shoujo treat that doesn't fall into many of the pitfalls the genre, and given that this is what we've got, that is the best way to read this series.
Angel's Coffin GN Angel's Coffin is a compact, standalone single volume loosely based upon the true story of a doomed love affair in which You Higuri selfishly indulges in all of her embarrassing creative excesses while treating her loyal readers to few of her creative strengths.
