Welcome to the INFOCOM
Homepage! It's hard to believe that it's been almost 15 years since I
first launched the site. Hand-crafted HTML (edited in VI -- as I'm
doing right now), CGI guestbook (remember CGI? remember guestbooks?),
flat files on a regular filesystem. In 1995, the World
Wide Web was still thought to be a toy; a place to publish obscure
research papers. I even remember someone describing the web as
"a graphical version of finger" (for those who remember
what finger is).
It's been almost 10 years since my last edit of the page and I'm not
entirely certain that anyone still visits (although I'm adding Google
Analytics because I'm curious). If there's enough interest I think it
would be interesting to start a Wiki where the content can
be owned and maintained by the community rather than rotting here.
Send me a note if you think this is a Good Idea(tm).
The site remains an artifact to pay
homage to the company that created some of the best computer games
ever. Games that sparked imagination rather than dulled the senses.
Most of the information contained here can be found in one form or another
somewhere on the Internet. Much of it can be found at The Interactive Fiction
Archive (no longer an ftp site only). Activision continues to hold the intellectual property rights for all the Infocom games but you will, sadly, find no mention of Infocom, Zork or other Infocom-ish names on their site.
At this site you can find information on all of
Infocom's interactive games, Infocom related articles,
sample transcripts,
InvisiClue
hints, walkthroughs, maps,
and information on buying Infocom games today.
The
kind people at Gerf.org have set aside some
disk space for a mirror site at infocom.gerf.org.
