While HP may have crushed the spirits of webOS fans last year, the Open webOS project brings a glimmer of hope to those faithful disciples of Palm's departed mobile operating system. It was ported to the Galaxy Nexus in short order, and now the same webOS Ports team has managed to get it up and running on the Nexus 7. While it's a jerky and feature-incomplete port at this time, a few key features appear to be working just fine — the Nexus 7 with webOS can connect to Wi-Fi and load pages in the browser, one of the cornerstone features of any good tablet. Samsung scored a win today, as Apple agreed in a court filing to pull its infringement claims against the Galaxy S III Mini. The device had been accused along with an assortment of other devices in the second legal battle the two companies are engaged in with Judge Lucy Koh. Apple had included the Galaxy S III Mini because it was available for sale through Amazon.com, but Samsung argued that the device had not been officially released in the United States, and therefore shouldn't be covered....


RIM's first patent settlement payment to Nokia is $65 million

Last week Nokia announced that RIM would pay it a one-off fee and make subsequent payments as part of a patent licensing agreement. It's now emerged, thanks to an SEC filing spotted by AllThingsD, that the one-off payment was a lump sum of €50 million, or around $65 million.
