AMD CFO Thomas Seifert resigns, sending stock down 8 percent

Advanced Micro Devices announced the resignation today of Chief Financial Officer Thomas Seifert, sending the company's stock down 8 percent.

Seifert, who had been with the chipmaker for three years, had briefly served as the company's interim chief executive officer last year after the resignation of CEO Dirk Meyer in January 2011. Seifert returned to his position as CFO in August 2011 when AMD named Rory Read, the former president and chief operating officer of the Lenovo Group, as its new CEO.

Other than the standard statement that Seifert was leaving "to pursue other opportunities," AMD … Read more

Zynga loses mobile VP, report says

At least four Zynga executives have resigned this month, including a vice president of mobile, Bloomberg reported today.

That's more bad news for the company as it continues to struggle with making money on the quickly growing mobile platform.

Ya-Bing Chu, a vice president in the company's mobile division, and Jeremy Strauser, a general manager, resigned this month, unnamed sources told Bloomberg.

Their departures follow that of Erik Bethke, a general manager of Mafia Wars 2, and Alan Patmore, a general manager for CityVille -- both publicly revealed their departure from the company earlier this week.

After a … Read more

Research In Motion announced today the resignation of its chief legal officer, the second high-level departure from the struggling phone maker in the past week.

RIM loses its head of global sales in a new blow

Already on shaky footing, Research In Motion is being dealt another blow. After 14 years of company loyalty, the company's London-based head of global sales is moving on, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Patrick Spence was with the company since 1998 but had only been in his current position as SVP and managing director of global sales and regional marketing for the last 10 months, according to The Next Web.

This shakeup comes at a bad time for RIM. It is struggling to bring back lost market share and sales for its once popular BlackBerry devices, but it'… Read more

Exec sings goodbye to Microsoft on YouTube

When I first saw this I thought the first line was "Long, long lines of coke."

I thought this would be a contemporary dirge to the emptiness of the corporate American dream. This was, after all, being sung to Don McLean's "American Pie."

Sadly, it seems, the first words are "long, long lines of code." For this is the resignation ditty of Karen X. Cheng, a project manager at Microsoft.

I sing a haiku to TechCrunch for explaining that she is leaving on a jet plane to work for something called Exec, a … Read more

The 404 1,029: Where we're never going on a cruise (podcast)

There are few words to describe people that don't know that the movie "Titanic" was actually based on a real Titanic, and even fewer to describe the bravado in tweeting about that ignorance, but Jeff musters a few adjectives.

On today's episode, we'll cover the $1 billion Instagram buyout and what you can expect to change once Facebook takes over, all four major U.S. wireless carriers joining forces to create a "lost my phone" database, smart touch-screen displays replacing payphones in New York City, and the shaky future of Best Buy and its former CEO.… Read more

Brian Dunn, chief executive of tech big box retailer Best Buy, resigned this morning.

Later in the day, however, the Wall Street Journal reported (subscription required), citing a company statement, that Dunn had resigned amid an investigation by the Best Buy board into his personal conduct. No other details were provided … Read more

LightSquared CEO resigns, casting shadow on 4G plans

LightSquared CEO Sanjiv Ahuja has stepped down as the company's chief executive officer.

The decision, announced this morning, does not shed much light as to exactly why Ahuja resigned, but reports have already circulating suggesting it has to do something with the Federal Communication Commission's move to block the launch of its 4G network.

In November, Ahuja spoke at the Open Mobile Summit in San Francisco, arguing that there is a disparity between demand for data and the amount of available spectrum, and that the United States is not ready to handle those problems.

Nevertheless, Ahuja will continue … Read more

Three founding executives at Demand Media announced their resignations today after six years with the content farm.

Larry Fitzgibbon, Joe Perez, and Steven Kydd, who were all executive vice presidents, are leaving the company they helped create, a company representative told CNET, confirming a story first reported by PaidContent.

Fitzgibbon oversaw international operations, while Perez was in charge of product and Kydd handled video. Michael Blend, Demand Media's executive vice president of Media & Marketplace for the company, will assume most of their duties.

A company representative said their simultaneous departures were merely a coincidence.
