ATR - Avions de Transport Regional
Avions de Transport Regional (ATR) is a Toulouse-based design and management company responsible for the ATR 47 and 72 series of regional turboprops. These aircraft are built by EADS and Alenia Aerospazio, each of whom own half of ATR.
ATR was briefly partnered with British Aerospace Regional Aircraft (now BAE Systems Regional Aircraft) in the Air International (Regional) (AI(R)) consortium. The partnership collapsed over disagreements over whether to proceed with the projected AI(R) JET family of regional jet aircraft. Alenia was in favour, Aerospatiale less so, and British Aerospace against.
If the project had gone ahead, the AI(R) JET would have replaced the ATR and Avro RJ series.
