Mark steps into Mario's classic red-blue dungarees and takes to the Mushroom Kingdom in this coin-heavy video review of New Super Mario Bros. 2.
if you don't like this game, then you can't be considered a gamer. If all you play are FPS', you know nothing of the gaming community.
Many of us just wanted a continuation of Super Mario 3, and this looks like it, but without the stupid motion controling.
They could have done more with this game, its really just a Wii port with new levels. If you enjoyed the Wii one then you'll probably like this, but i personally did not like the Wii one, so that doesn't make me a gamer? That being said, Super Mario Land 3D on the other hand is a great game which i enjoy playing.
I'd really like to see Nintendo make a Mario game closer to Super Mario World from the Snes with a Level editor included.
I agree with most of this review Mark, except for your complaining about the princess being captured again. That's part of what makes a Mario game. It's part of the fun.
This game is never boring
My reaction when playing these games...
New Super Mario Bros. :D
New Super Mario Bros. Wii :)
New Super Mario Bros. 2 :I
New Super Mario Bros. U :P
So what does the score rating bring for New Super Mario Bros. Wii U?
20 plus years later and they are still doing the same thing lol
looks bland
OK, after watching this I've decided I'm gonna pick it up this morning with my new 3DS XL, I'm excited :)
Sorry this does not have anything to do with New Super Mario Bros. 2. I just can not get a straight answer out of anyone.
Can anyone tell me if i was playing using the 3DS XL with an old DS game like Pokemon Pearl or something. Does it make the game get a lot of pixels and make it look sh*tty?
I ask this becasue i am thinking about upgrading from a DSi and i need to know if the old DS games still look okay or are they really bad. I dont really intend on using the 3D function on the 3DS XL but i would like an upgrade to be able to play the newer games on 3DS as well as enjoy the old DS games still.
Please anyone playing old DS games on their new 3DS XL let me know.
Well I got to say that after beating this game, a lot of what Mark says is true. There really isn't much new in the way of this game, and even though the focus is on coin collecting, it's not that challenging which equates to less than spectacular level design, and the Star World levels were a complete joke. It's a good game, but honestly, people should not feel obligated to give this game 9s just because it's a Mario game...
Man they going to keep on milking the crap out of mario. I think his milk has turn to dust.
I realized midway through the complaining, I mean review, that this is gamespot and its a review of a Mario game....
Just listening to reviews like this pisses me off incredibly. It's a video game review, tell us the pros and cons, no need to act poetic or snobby.
My idea if Nintendo wants to keep up the retro 2D sidescrollers to keep making money while doing something new. "New Super Mario Bros. :Return to Subcon" sure the US SMB2 wasn't really SMB but why not a follow up to the US SMB2 with playable characters with different skills sets, add Yoshi to the options. Bring back Wart, Mouser, Fryguy and Tryclyde, go back to the tossing baddies magical jars, etc. I'd play that. Want that idea Nintendo? Call me.
This isn't a review it's a cry for attention.
after listening to this delightful gentleman speak, i have immediately realized that i need to have a pHD in snobbery to make a game review.
Stop complaning there are new powerups too that are very good
lightshell Aside from the Golden Flower, no there isn't.
I am sick of this guys hideous reviews. Everyone I watch and hear his voice make me want to hurl. He has no idea what gamers like maybe he has a PhD in video game making but he flunked at what people like. People LOVE this kind of mario game been around for 25+ years and he can say what he wants there has been only minor changes with each one this is no different BUT it gives a NEW platform a game EVERY nintendo platform needs. A Super Mario Brothers Game 2D and i have played it and its a lot of fun
WEEE! lets milk that cash cow!
I will definitely get this once it comes out this week for my son. I just have some questions: Is the New Super Mario Bros 1 for the DS is also playable in the 3DS? I'm thinking of buying it also if it is playable. And what are the possible drawbacks in playing a DS game in a 3DS handheld?
The_Great_Purge Yes, you can play NSMB from the DS on the 3DS. The only drawback is that it will be slightly burry since it has to expand to the higher res screen. It is not that bad though.
abfackeln If it's not that bad, I'll take it. Thanks for the info.
The_Great_Purge Yes, it is. You can play all DS games on the 3DS.
As a Nintendo fan I have just lost a bit of respect for Nintendo. It's a shame they had to go EA, and Activison on there fans. The blinded fanboys will buy it any ways, and praise it. All you have to do is get some s*** and a red marker. Draw a circle, with an M inside it, and Nintendo fans will fight like dogs to eat it up.
Nintyfan95 lol you and your Sonic logo, Nintendo already released a stuning full 3D Mario game, if people dig the retro 2D style they release one too, so what, it plays perfectly and they release one, ok, ONE, of this new super mario games per system, that's not milking anything, just giving some people what they want with quality, Nintendo hate keeps going strong. . .
Nintyfan95
"their fans".
there = place
their = possessive
they're = "they are"
Seriously, so what if the game is "more of the same", as long as it's enjoyable? At least they still try to change some things up in the Mario games, like the whole coin concept in this one. I really don't understand why gamers complain about this so much these days. Of course it's going to be similar to the others. Video game sequels almost always are.
TAMKFan You are right. And I must say, I like the coin concept, too! It's something new for a Mario game. With the already awesome Super Mario 3D Land, a new 2D-style Mario game for 3DS is very welcome!
Can't wait to get my hands on my copy tomorrow! :)
sorry, make some twist in the story. For example, in Paper Mario Gamecube, the story was actually DIFFERENT and fun.
zpluffy It is a turn based RPG, a genre that tends to have a story, this is a platformer, a genre that tends to not have a story, but an enjoyable playing experience
That's basically how I see each and every Mario.
Make me wonder has Nintendo, really run out of fresh ideas for future Mario games, or was this just a quick way to cash in on the Mario franchise to sell more 3Ds's?
PSR8000 The second one, because there about to turn profit with the 3DS, and they want to start it off with a bang.
Nintyfan95
"they're about to..."
See explanation above. Double grammar fail!
Wow!.. looks just like the wii U version. Which is sad. New Ds title tho
Didn't realize I was on GameSpot Europe mate. Also its MAR-E-O ! Not Mare E O... Jesus Mario has even been saying his own name out loud since Mario 64 to just help blokes likes yourself... Stick to written reviews and get your horrible voice off my internets!
So Super Mario Bros 2 gets a 7 for being repetitive but MW3 gets an 8.5?
EpycWyn The Modern Warfare games still are way more story-driven, and they at least have a progressing story, which makes it a bit less repetitive.
EpycWyn yeah plus the replay vaue is much larger. I mean you do have a multiplayer mode with a few new modes, many more maps and new weapons. Also they added a brand new Survival Mode which greatly expanded the co-op in the modern warfare series. And the story also keeps going. But the MW series has indeed been lacking which is why MW3 got a little bit of a lower score then the other modern warfares. But this Mario game looks painfully repetetive. I mean, going back to this after Mario 3D land? Lame.
EpycWyn This game rips it's music exactly from it's sequel.
Does not matter what the review said, It is Mario. Love the series. I will love it.
Don't disagree with what the reviewer says. Might download it from the eShop.
WOW Relax people !!! He gave it a 7, you know what the means on this site, GOOD! The reviewer said the game is good! Now shut up and watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXND6fkW4zM
dont let one review twist your whole mind, watch others like IGN for example gave this a good review... plus the picture is fuzzy the game actually looks a lot better..
TPlushGumbo
I know, it's kind of dumb to restrict yourself only to one review, especially if you're on the fence about a game, it's best to get a variety of opinions.
TPlushGumbo Technically, Gamespot gave this a "good" review as well. 7.0 is labeled as good. Any higher, and it would've been "great" or "editor's choice"
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
It's about time someone actually said, what we are all thinking. Mario, your games are dead. Now go hide someone where no one will find you for 40 years, till your games are long forgotten, then renewed...
Nintendo cannot keep relaying on mario/zelda. Make something new you lazy sacks!!
