Tom Hardy to star in Splinter Cell movie
Inception and The Dark Knight Rises actor to play Sam Fisher in Ubisoft's upcoming film adaptation.
Tom Hardy's next role is Sam Fisher. Variety reports today that the Inception and The Dark Knight Rises actor has been cast as the lead role in Ubisoft's upcoming Splinter Cell film adaptation.
The film has been in the works since 2006 and remains unassociated with a studio. The site states that Ubisoft has held preliminary talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount, though it is not clear if either outfit is pursuing the project.
Eric Warren Singer (The International) is writing the film's script, though no director or other actors have been announced for the project.
Hardy is the second high-profile actor Ubisoft has signed to one of its upcoming films. He follows Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, Shame), who will play the lead role in the forthcoming Assassin's Creed motion picture.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist is the next entry in Ubisoft's long-running stealth-action series. It is due out next year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more on that game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
People tend to confuse or lose the point of make a movie I dont blame them even those who are in the business scrw it specially when theu dont even take time to know the film is based in a particular ip or concept created for the movie. In this case splinter cell sam fisher already has a face it has a look they need to respect this there are many actors who can fit much better than Hardy. Just look the marvel movies on comparrison to DC ok iys mot a fair cpsn but you catch the idea
A game-based film reveal and 99% of the posts are haters...Shocking.
a little young but you could take the story from a young age.
It'll be weird not hearing Michael Ironsides voice.
tunaface You said it all!!! Thanks for pointing that out... What's with it???
good actor. however its gunna be weird seeing him acting a american accent or will he
Daamn. The guy from Warrior? Best fighting movie ever. But, he doesn't look like Sam Fisher.
Trickymaster give him the iconic goggles and i think he would.
well physically, George Clooney resembles Sam the most. especially on the Chaos Theory cover. I can't really imagine Hardy as Sam either though..
ryancyc
o man nice. I was trying to think of the best actor for Fisher and George Clooney would work so well. Haha wow I'm soo impressed for some reason.
Grrrreat news.
Interesting. I thought someone like Michael Fassbender, or Jeremy Renner would be their choice.
Let's see how this turns out.
If they are so desperate to turn games into movies at least ask gamers who they want as main actor that will at least satisfy some of the game fans if not all of them, even if the damn movie fails(which will 99%) will not be a total disaster.
Veronity They shouldn't let us have to much say... remember the Mass Effect 3 mess? And securing an actor these days sounds like an ordeal. Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are great actors, Ubisoft did the right thing hiring those two for their movies. And imho, Ubisoft has always made quality games, I'd imagine their movies will be the same.
Lytmare Veronity
You mean the part where they screwed up mass effect 3 and we all complained and got it fixed (sort of).
You're joking right?
Why this person, there are other's who would fit the position much better....this person does not look like a Sam Fisher.
nice!!
Hmm.. Another Fuck up...No offense Tom Hardy is a good actor but I can never see him as Sam fisher......Jim Caviezel will be perfect, you gotta see him in "Person Of Interest", this guy is tailor made for the role.....
winshot my thoughts exactly
@winshot Pray for the director not be a stpd blind to be loyal to the original source instead of shtng it as they do with the last hope so batman film
Another idea theft. Don't the ubisoft developers have any sense of creativity?! Do they always have to steal Kojima's ideas?! I'm glad, this guy was simply too fat to star as solid snake anyway.
I hope they don't screw up the game
With typical Hollywood scriptwriters, I have a feeling that the screenplay will be crap.
Well hello there Mr. UPS man!
Well, as Sam would say, "FFmmm hmmm fwarrr; fwehn famam!" Oh wait, that's what Bane would say. Sorry.
Dammit!!! I don't really care about Splinter Cell if I'm honest, but if Hardy's in the movie then I'll HAVE to see it.
YES
The first decent game movie news I ever thought was decent. But then tomhardy did do one of the worst movies ever made. This means war.
I don't understand why are they promoting Tom Hardy this much. He is literarly in every major movie. Same thing was happening with Christian Bale a while ago. I mean WTF? They are good actors and all, but I'm getting tired of watching the same faces all over again.
Srdjann
He gets a lot of work because he's a brilliant actor. But I still agree, he's becoming overexposed. I think Tom maybe should take a break for a little bit before taking another role. I'm sure he's got plenty of money by now.
Srdjann like the rock loved him till he was in somany movies.
@Srdjann Sure you know this business is a black market of bchs where the one who licks more a..s or make more blowys get more roles and ok is not my business wjatever they do to be on the top. But why should fans of the diversity of ip which their true and original source came from comics, games, novels books. etc. should suffer experience or accept how this ashls desfigurate tear appart scrw the original source by putting actors that have nothing in common to the role or character that is important for the people who feed those who create something and paid for yhe products. For me that case was with the last Batman film. I dont care if Hardy is a good actor je does not represent the original Bane to anyone who can be considerated a fan of Batman.
MizarzeugSrdjann
I see what you're trying to say, but I must disagree about the movies. I'll go a little bit off topic to explain this. You see, I am a huge Batman fan, and like that I expect everything about him (games, movies and stuff) with great criticism. Because I grew up in a small town where we didn't have superhero comics (there was only stuff like Captain Mark, Blake the Rock, Zagor etc.) the only way I found out about Batman is through Tim Burton's movies, and later, the Animated series.Even though Tim Burton's first movie wasn't the same as comics (which I found out later) I still love it to this day, and that's the original Batman to me.
Now, the way I see it is that these movies are just another variation of Batman universe: Tim Burton's represent Batman in unique, dark world; Cristopher Nolan tried to represent him more modern and realistic (as you already know, there are so may universes for one character in comics, so that the creators could keep fans interested). As you don't accept "new movie Bane", the same goes for me for some other representations of other heroes and Batman too.
on topic: I also think that Sam Fisher should be played by some older actor, in his late 40s or early 50s.
Thats a great choice for Sam
Tom could be in a movie about pocket lint and it would be awesome.
more news about a videogame movie that'll never see the light
Not a single mention of Metal Gear in this story, and yet quite a few comments involve how Metal Gear will do various bullying tactics to Splinter Cell.
Children, can't we just get along and play/enjoy ALL the games and gaming movies?
PixelAddict People just can't be happy about anything nowadays
Reuwsaat Exactly, haters gotta hate.
I've noticed a disturbing trend... The Internet the last few years has been all about people complaining and being more aggressive in forums and comments sections.
Is this certain kids/young adults being allowed to use a computer for the first time or adults ACTING juvenile? I don't know, but it's getting more prevalent/annoying.
PixelAddict Reuwsaat
I thinks it's people hiding behiind the relative anonymity of an avatar or username. Many people lead double lives. They are nice hard wrking parents on the outside but on the internet, raving opinionated sociopaths.
It's like that old goofy cartoon about driving. ;)
SamuraiSeven PixelAddict The thing I can't understand is, why? Why hate so much? What does it adds to their daily lives? It's just so small minded and ignorant
Reuwsaat SamuraiSeven I agree.
Also, here's what's sad: even on this thread, every time i get an email notification stating i have a response, i shield my eyes from what i assume will be some mindless attack in the form of a RAAAAHR at me and the rest of the world.
PixelAddict Reuwsaat SamuraiSeven I also agree with what you guys said... Coming to review sites I see a headline I really get excited about, then scroll down to the comments section just to face literally hordes of abhorrent and aggressive comments hating hating and hating some more. I don't know, but as a kid growing up with no internet access I had so much fun playing games no matter how supposedly "bad" they were. I remember loving speedfreaks on PS1. Now with the capabilities of the internet (Review sites, scores, comments, global opinions etc) it sort of feels like the magic of gaming has been stripped away by harsh, critical and downright prick infested comment sections -- and just Reviews in general.
GammA_ZA PixelAddict Reuwsaat
I was just reading this: http://www.ign.com/blogs/ereeeek/2012/11/13/when-did-gamers-become-bullies
It's asking the same questions about why gamers are haters. I just have a healthy detachment from it and refuse to read negative comments. That helps me . I alos avoid reviews unless I am already skeptical about a game. If it's bad and no fun, trade it. No point in complaining.
SamuraiSeven TRUTH!!
PixelAddict ya spot on there mate....two games 2 movies....am gonna watch both....enjoy both...whats the fuss?
Providing we can actually hear what he says this time then it's all fine and dandy by me. An adaption of one of my favourite franchises? Great stuff. The fact it's got Tom Hardy will please the Mrs too, two birds with one stone!
too bad metal gear was-is-will rape this franchise in any kind of adaptation possible
I enjoy a good film when I'm not gaming but an Intelligent story line carries weight. Lets hope Its not some propaganda BS with the usual stereotype villains etc.
