Mega Man fans felt that Capcom was missing an opportunity to celebrate the Blue Bomber's 25th anniversary with the release of a new game.
As Square Enix rolled out
game after
game to celebrate
Final Fantasy's 25th anniversary, Capcom announced
Mega Man Xover - a social RPG exclusive to mobile platforms - back in August.
This confusing game was hardly what fans were hoping for, and many wondered if 25 years was the life expectancy of your average Mega Man.
In a recent interview posted on
Siliconera, however, Capcom USA's senior vice-president Christian Svensson assured fans that this wasn't the case.
Get equipped with vague promisesWhen asked specifically about the future of
Mega Man, Svensson had plenty to say on the matter:
"I can say with certainty that you’ve not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we'll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you're going to enjoy over the next 25 years."
Svensson was understandably reserved about discussing the prospect of future
Mega Man in specific, and stated that he's "…going to have to stay mum about any details."
Mega Man's 25th anniversary will arrive properly in December – coincidentally, the same month that
Final Fantasy hits the quarter century mark – and Capcom is expected to carry out celebrations of the Blue Bomber in both Japan and the United States.
