Following the previous elimination, the two finalists are immediately thrust into a challenge that requires them to cook for five discriminating judges. The winner earns the coveted right to make the first pick of the chefs for the final brigade. After getting a bit of rest, the two then design their own menus for the final service, then choose their brigades. After a brief time, they are sent into the final service. Both finalists face their struggles with the teams that they've selected, but both demonstrate excellent command on the whole and finish service within a narrow margin of each other. Then, in the closest margin ever, Chef Ramsay chooses the winner of the sixth season of Hell's Kitchen.

The remaining three aspiring chefs are presented with a challenge that requires them to each create a dish from a different country. Each chef prepares a fantastic dish, but one chef forgets to bring up a key ingredient, causing them to lose the challenge. Another chef wins, despite never having made a dish from that country before. The victor is treated to lunch made by three renowned chefs representing countries from around the world, while the losers are made to prepare both the dining room and the kitchen for service. At service, each of the chefs are given an opportunity to run the hot plate and face quality control tests. All three struggle with various challenges, but the service is completed successfully. In the end, two chefs advance to the final, but are told that their day isn't over and are sent off to get ready for another challenge.

The four remaining aspiring chefs are given a stern talking-to by Gordon Ramsay, or rather a pint-sized imitator named Felix Light. Following this, they set to the business of day's challenge-- creating vegetarian dishes for 80 surprise guests. Unbeknownst to them, the guests are a group of eight finicky children. The winner of the challenge is sent for a day of pampering, followed by lunch at Nobu, Los Angeles restaurant, while the losers are made to clean up after the kids, then prep for service. Chef Ramsay stresses "passion" as the main ingredient for the evening's service, but one chef puts in plenty of passion, but not enough skill. The service is ground to a halt by the actions of this particular chef, who only barely avoids being kicked out. The final results come to this chef and one who is struggling with a physical problem. Following the evening's elimination, the remaining three chefs are allowed some time with their families.

The remaining aspiring chefs are presented with their first true individual challenge-- to create entrees that not only taste good but also look good. The dishes are judged by the editorial staff of Bon Appetit Magazine. The two dishes that look best are tasted by Gordon Ramsay and Barbara Fairchild and two chefs get a surprise when the results are declared a tie, making them both winners. The two winners get to enjoy a photo shoot for Bon Appetit, while the losing chefs are made to don prison garb and perform community service. During the punishment, one chef that has been struggling sustains a further injury. The evening's dinner service turns out to be something of a disaster. All seemingly in it for themselves, the aspiring chefs find themselves unable to work as a team and mistakes are made throughout service.
