Favorite PS2 RPG right here.
I Love this game!!From that time until now is one of the best graphics rpg with great enviromment-cutscenes-music and story game ever.Deffenetly would play it again if a have a time again this game is so big and i recommend it for rpg fans
I have to say, this game was a huge disappointment for me. As a stand-alone RPG, it was alright. Above average even. But it definitely is not on par with its FF predecessors. Makes me sad.
Detriiment Dont be sad just play it again and you will understand, i know its hard for you but this game is not high rated for joke ;)
GioPunk If you think this game is good compared to 7, 8, or 10, I don't even know what to say to you. Seems like you have to go back and play THOSE games again.
Detriiment 8 was a disappointment.Yes 12 was a bit different from others. It had a more mature storyline rife with politics. That's what made it so interesting. And 12 is more critically rated than 7,8 and 10.
Though I like 7 and 10 more than 12.
Can't believe this is 5 years old already, definitely my favorite Final Fantasy since the year 2000, wish Squeenix would take a page out of this game's book as far as exploration and sidequests go for the ps3 games. Bring back this level of polish and I will be one happy camper :D
Definitely a good game I remember getting a demo of this game with dragon quest. Gameplay is great too annoying looking Vaan though but Balthier, Basch, and other characters were likable in my opinion. Man I hate that weird shirt design they make characters wear in some games they are better off with no shirt at all who wants to see guys belly buttons
Loved this game, hope it comes to the Ps3 as a digital download. Dont let that it just has a diff combat system put you off, it has plenty of replay value and a variety of chars.
Gambit system , influenced Dragon Age
Judges were GMs in FFXI

I think I played this game quite a few times just because it was so fun. Great game. Great story and combat. If you can still play it, please get it. You wont be disappointed.
@Rheinmetal You can also adjust battle speed to suit your style. I do understand what you mean by the "clear" schemes though, I wish changing the leader didn't have a whole screen brought up instead of just switching over quickly with up/down. I wasn't a fan of FFX and definitely not XIII so XII is my fondest recent memory of Final Fantasy and probably will be for a long time.
@theshonen8899: You can't play it like a FF game, because the battle, with, or without the gambits is a hybrid of real time action, and turn based battle, which I found that didn't work well. All are happening too fast in the battle, so for better results you have to to turn on the gambits. As a gamer (and a person) I prefer "clear" schemes, either turn based, or real time action. And also why change something that worked so well in the previous eleven titles? Anyway after seeing where FF13 is going- and I'm not talking only for the battle system, I'm done with Final Fantasy. I'm glad people are still enjoying the games, I guess I'm a gamer from a past era who couldn't adjust himself to the new ways.
@Rheinmetal Why? It has an excellent story, deep characters, beautiful settings and really innovative gameplay that inspired Xenoblade and The Last Story. Is it because the battle system was so different? Because you can just as easily turn off gambits and play it like a regular Final Fantasy.
I hate this game. I found it even worse than FF X.
Just got the collectors edition
I've got mixed feelings about the combat. The lack of random encounters makes the game feel too little like an rpg to me. Nevertheless, the fighting, gambits, visuals, and voice acting are what made this game good. The characters and story were s*** though. And the gambit system and license board weren't complex at all...

....GoW II I mean :D
@beepyou35 Remember, that was technically the last game released 4 the Ps2 and is considered it's ''swan song'' :)
the only thing i remember about this game story wise was that i was some ppl fighting other fancy ppl with not-so-shiny armor. i got the 3 super abilities ASAP and got to where there were side quests and did those for about 7 hours and forgot everything about the story. way too many distractions. im gonna give it another try soon but i'll need a notebook or something so i don't forget half the stuff
6 hours in, I love this game! FFX was great, but i liked the change in combat system, sometimes turn-based, random stuff makes me get a bit annoyed, but this one is fluid and quick!10/10
This is the only Final Fantasy I can say I've ever really enjoyed. While Im only 17 and have only played 3 console versions this one was the best and I wish I could play it on my PS3.
I want it! An FF game that doeen't look scarily difficult
All i enjoy are RPGs and this is my favorite most ease free RPG that is not watered down to play.
absolutely one of the best games I ever played and the best RPG game ever created
Why did I watch this? Now I really want to play it, but I'm trying to work through my backlog!
playing it..loving it
God of War II has better graphics than this on the PS2.
i really dont get y the heck they changed the turn-based combat like ff10, i LOVED THAT! and the reason i didnt instantly buy ff13 was the goddamn combat!!!
Loved it! This was the first FF games I ever played and I feel madly in love! It was challenging but rewarding :)
I'll definitely give it a try.
hands down the best final fantasy, and probably the best role playing game iv ever played, from the excellent game play to the outstanding voice acting, it doesnt get any better than this (didnt understand the story though ;P )
Absolutely love this FF entry, my 2nd fave after FF 6.
i am near the end of the game and this is the best game ever i gave it a 10
i have been playin 66 hrs now and still cant get past the giruvegan city but i gave this game a 10 its the best game i have prob ever played i love it
the greatest rpg I played in ps2 beside KH series.....
If anything, i liked the changed combat system the best. I didn't like FF7's system very much.
Good ol' Greg.
I've been the reviews of some of the older games and i've noticed that they're a LOT more detailed and generally better than the new ones. Why? Gmaespot should change this
Totally Agree!!! Im on the 3rd disk for 13 and its a let down
i prefered this to 10.. the oni thing bad about this in my opinion was the story, it wasnt as strong as it could of been, compared to the previous games which is a shame cuz it has the looks and qualitys of masterpiece and this could of easily have been better than 13 if the story was strong, i say this because 13 is sooooooooooo linear its untrue
If you own the game and game system you could just use a emulator on your pc?
i want to play this again.. but my ps2 is broken now..
I loved everything about this game. I'm most impressed by the articulate language use. I swear, this game taught me how to understand rich snobs, and bureaucrats more than CNN ever has. It just punctuates the quality of work put into this game. It's obvious that Square would go to great lengths for perfection. I gave this game a 10. BTW, I have over 73 hours invested into this game, and STILL haven't beaten it. Let's just say that I leave no stone left unturned...
I was playing this yesterday, and realized how good it was. I think the main reason people put this game down, whether they know it or not, is because Square made this game a Final Fantasy. It's not very Final Fantasyish, but that doesn't make it sucky game. It's actually quite refreshing, I think.
I always forger how amazing FF 12 looked.
comparing with other FF games the story line is not as dramatic and the ending is too sudden...an hour before it ends I thought it was just the beginning of the story...but the battle system is really fun...FFX was my favorite of the series
