TopTenReviews (TTR) is a website which aggregates reviews for software, hardware, web services, music, movies and video games from other sites and publications. Founded by Jerry Ropelato in 2003, TTR is, as of May 2008, one of the most popular sites of its kind by size and traffic, with the largest online database of media reviews.[2] It has an Alexa U.S. rank of 1,105 and a global rank of 1,876 as of 11 October 2010.[3] Some of its major competitors include Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. It is notable that the top three rated internet filters pay the top ten reviews for their rankings and participate in affiliate programs. The lowest ranked sites do not.

The site converts critic reviews from various scoring systems (such as 100-point, 10-point, letter grade) to an overall average on a four star scale with four decimal places (i.e. 0.0000 to 4.0000), and then ranks the media products based on their metascores.[2]

The goal of TopTenReviews is to give information on products and save consumers time and money by comparing the products first.[4]

[edit] Other features

The site's other features include background information for each media product (such as developer, publisher, release date, ESRB or MPAA rating), screenshots, hints/cheat codes for video games, and a price comparison listing similar to that on PriceGrabber.

As of 28 May 2008, the site had 190,040 entries in its movie database,[5] 455,189 entries in its music database,[6] and 34,477 entries in its video game database.[7] There are over 700,000 movie reviews and 200,000 game reviews.[2]

For video games, TTR also ranks titles among others released on the same console, same genre, and same year of publication. For movies and music, titles are ranked by decade, year of release, and all-time ranking.[8]

On September 27, 2010, OMMA named TopTenReviews the 2010 Award Winner for Website Excellence in the Education category.[9]
