Where's the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Review?

By Dan Stapleton | PC News | Nov 12, 2012 9:50 PM | 0 Comments

In just a few hours, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will launch on Steam. Many of you no doubt have your fingers poised over that big green and white ADD TO CART button, awaiting only a thumbs up or thumbs down from a few trusted reviewers. Well, our verdict is going to be a day or three late, because we weren't invited to Activision's Call of Duty review event. And if we were, we'd have been horribly bored, as there wasn't a PC version there to be reviewed. So, here we are, pre-loading on Steam like everybody else (or at least, all the other impatient people), getting ready to fire it up and give you our impressions as we go. Will this Call of Duty be the first in years to have a smooth launch on PC? Will the futuristic campaign pull any new tricks out of its hat to liven up the proven-but-fatigued CoD formula? Will the 13-year-olds screaming at us in multiplayer invent a new devastating new generation of profanity? Stay tuned, and find out with us. If you're playing on PC alongside us, by all means post in the comments and let us know what you think, too. Read More »

PlanetSide 2 vs Firefall vs Tribes Diagram

By GameSpy Staff | PC Articles | Nov 12, 2012 3:30 PM | 0 Comments

We've got free-to-play sci-fi shooters coming out our ears this year! On the surface, PlanetSide 2, Tribes: Ascend, and Firefall all seem to be jetpack-fighting over the same colorful alien terrain. But beyond the basics, these three play very, very differently. We've whipped up a handy diagram to help you tell the difference between the blindingly fast shooter, the bigger-is-better open war, and the MMO-style adventure. Read More »

Scandal! DirectX 11.1 is Windows 8 Exclusive

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Nov 12, 2012 11:47 AM | 0 Comments

Sorry, Windows 7 fans that also like to play their games in 3D, DirectX 11.1 won't be coming to your preferred edition of the operating system. That means there will be no native stereoscopic 3D support. According to Microsoft, there are currently no plans to bring the most recent version of the API collection back to its previous OS. That's rather a bummer. Read More »

PlanetSide 2 Update Brings the Meta

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Nov 12, 2012 8:03 AM | 0 Comments

The three-faction battle for bases and territory has been a bit thin up to this point in the PlanetSide 2 beta. Fun? Absolutely, but definitely lacking the grand global strategy elements SOE promised. Now, with just over a week to go to the planned November 20 launch, a major patch is adding the meta that PlanetSide 2 was missing. Read More »

Guild Wars 2 Lost Shores Details Wash Up

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Nov 12, 2012 7:30 AM | 0 Comments

ArenaNet continued to pull back the curtain on Guild Wars 2's upcoming Lost Shores event today, and the details make me think that "event" is the wrong word to describe it. Mini-expansion is more like it. A new zone, new dungeon, new PvP map, new gear, crafting updates and more will all be washing up on the Lost Shores. Read More »

Gabe Newell Talks Valve's Source Engine 2

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Nov 12, 2012 6:44 AM | 0 Comments

Back in August, Valve launched its Source Filmmaker, and buried beneath layers of code in its script files were more than 60 references to Source 2. The news immediately led to speculation Valve is planning to launch its latest version of Source or even an entirely new engine. Now, Gabe Newell himself has weighed in: Source 2 is real, Valve is just waiting on a new game to roll it out with. Read More »

Peter Molyneux's Curiosity Not Coming To PC After All

By Katie Williams | PC News | Nov 11, 2012 2:39 PM | 0 Comments

You've seen all your friends tap-tap-tapping away at their Apple devices, their eyes turning cube-shaped the longer they chip away at Peter Molyneux's "life-changing" experiment Curiosity. While it was originally reported that Curiosity would be coming to both PC and iOS, it's now been confirmed that only the latter will get a chance at finding whatever's inside the cube. Things are now looking bleak for a PC version. Read More »

I Don't Need No BFG: Doom 3 Returns to Steam

By Katie Williams | PC News | Nov 11, 2012 1:51 PM | 0 Comments

Weirdly enough, the release of Doom 3: BFG Edition back in October had many players hankering to play the original version of Doom 3. Apparently. That's what Bethesda says, anyway, citing this as the reason why the original Doom 3 is now available again on Steam. No explanation was given as to why it was pulled from the digital marketplace in the first place. Read More »

Cats Are Helping The World (Of Warcraft)

By Katie Williams | PC News | Nov 10, 2012 2:11 PM | 0 Comments

I've long championed the use of cats not just as pets, but also as pillows and therapeutic devices. Now check out this adorable little kitten. Its fluff is made of fire! Well, in spite of the lack of cuddleability, WoW's Cinder Kitten will still provide 100% comfort, as all proceeds from this new buyable pet will go towards the Red Cross to help out Hurricane Sandy victims.
