Madfinger teases Shadowgun: Deadzone

Madfinger teases Shadowgun: Deadzone

Madfinger Games, the developer behind Shadowgun and Dead Trigger, has revealed a new teaser image for their upcoming third person multiplayer shooter, Shadowgun: Deadzone. The image shows a group of grizzled looking mercaneries, presumably all characters you can play in the blaster, standing around looking grizzled. You can check it out for yourself below. We gave the original Shadowgun a 4 in our review, and anyone who's seen it in action knows just how impressive the game looks. Hopefully Deadzone will be able to capture some of the frantic multiplayer action that mobile games have been lacking for a while. There's no firm release date for the game yet, which was first announced at th... Read More

FIFA SOCCER 13 by EA SPORTS Review

The waves keep crashing against the beach; the sun keeps rising; and the moon’s orbit slowly decays to an eventual stop; such are the many natural things we can can count on to happen every day, including Electronic Arts’ inevitable update to the FIFA franchise. If you detect a slightly sour bitterness on the palette, don’t worry, it’s just a sore point borne of the cyclical nature of the game industry. There is, however, a benefit to this kind o...

Modern Combat 4 announced at TGS

A video has leaked online that shows off the first trailer for the inevitable fourth enty in Gameloft's soldiering FPS series, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. And it's fair to say that the prolific developer ise still finding inspiration from another series of games with a similar name. While the trailer doesn't show much actual gameplay, it does reveal that the game is going to be released in the Autumn. So that's anytime from now until November really. If the previous entires into the series are anything to go by, you can expect a single player campaign featuring lots of running and shooting, and a pretty solid multiplayer mode to boot. We gave the last game in the series, Modern ... Read More

iMpulse is the world's smallest wireless controller for mobile devices

Some KickStarter projects make you sit up and take notice, and the iMpulse certainly fits into that category. It's a key ring that doubles up as a wireless controller for your iOS or Android device. More than that, it lets you control your media, take photos without touching your phone or tablet, and if you install a special app, it'll even make a sound when you're trying to find your keys. You can use it either way round, so if you're a wierdo who uses controllers backwars you're well catered for, and you can even sync two to the same device, opening up a whole swarm of multiplayer possibilities. The device connects through bluetooth, so battery life shouldn't be too much of a problem,... Read More

Spectromancer Review

[This game was featured as the mini-review for the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 21st of September, 2012] If you’ve played Hothead’s ‘Kard Combat’ then you’ll know what you’re in for with Three Donkeys’ iPhone and iPad title ‘Spectromancer’. Players are handed a ‘deck’ comprised of an infinite amount of various cards, each requiring a certain amount of ‘mana’ to cast. Each turn you’ll earn a base...

STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN MOBILE Review

In only three short months STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN (SFxTK) has undergone a transition from its true home on Consoles and PCs to the mobile platform. Fighter fans may take exception to my wording there, but fear not, Street Fighter on iOS has (to date) been adapted almost perfectly for touch-screen devices. SFxTK is no exception to this and indeed it places even more emphasis on its ‘versus’ modes than ever before - sure you can enjoy the game single-player, but if you have WIFI th...

N.O.V.A. 3 for iOS receives a sizeable update

Gameloft has released another free content update for its impressive futuristic FPS, N.O.V.A. 3, adding a new multiplayer mode, a new map to scrap on, and voice chat on selected devices too. The new multiplayer mode is called Team InstaGib, and, as its name suggests, is a team based, one-shot-kill battle to the death. Everyone has the same weapon, making it a real test of your twitchy shooting skills. The new map is called Warehouse. It's set in futuristic San Francisco, and its mix of long and short range combat opportunities make it an intriguing prospects. Throw in some Halo style jet packs, and you're left with an arena that has something for everyone. And last but not least, the ne... Read More

Capcom unleashes Street Fighter X Tekken onto the App Store

Capcom has finally released the iOS version of their console smash hit, Street Fighter X Tekken. It brings with it Retina support, and a robust online mode that fighter fans are going to love. Built from the ground up as a touch screen experience, the game features a roster of ten legendary characters from the Street Fighter and Tekken series, and lets you take part in furious two on two tag team battles. We've embedded a slightly mental Japanese launch trailer below so you can get a decent idea of what the game's all about, but we'd suggest you pick it up sharpish, as the game's on sale for just $2.99/£1.99 for a limited time only. Sponsored Feature: China Wireless Arts on Armed Beasts

Shoving weaponry into the hands of cartoon animals such as rabbits, dogs, and lions might sound a desperate move - but publishers China Wireless Arts are keen to emphasise that Armed Beasts is much more than just an amusing concept. The overhead shooter throws in a range of enemies, locations, and mission objectives to keep you interested after the thrill of a bull firing a chaingun has long since worn off. Wendy Don from China Wireless Arts spoke to us about how the game has a range of locales to explore, weapons to sample, and what the multiplayer options involve. AppSpy: What does Armed Beasts offer that no other overhead shooter on the App Store can? Wendy: Armed Beasts is a 3D gam... Read More

Friday News Wrap-Up 14 September 2012

Has the month just come to a halt now that the iPhone 5 has been announced? It feels that way to me... or maybe I’m crazy. Either way lets scrape up what news we can for the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 14th of September, 2012. Payback 2 - Long-awaited sequel in development

Those who happen to be long-time iOS gamers may remember the GTA-like title Payback from the dark-old ages of iPhone gaming. Rendered in software mode rather than hardware, it was a testament to the developer’s dedication, especially as it seemed to start out as an Amiga project. Payback 2 takes another swing at the free-exploring GTA formula, albeit with its own twist of allowing the play... Read More

Little Masters Review

Little Masters Review

The freemium model has a tendency to get stuck in its tracks, spitting out titles with similar themes or at least based on similar genres. With this in mind it's no wonder gamers are clearly divided on whether they love or hate these sorts of titles. Little Masters takes a slightly different tack, modeling itself after NimbleBit's coin/bux driven system to speed up the Pokemon-inspired gameplay. 'Inspired' might be putting it lightly - those familiar with the classic monster-catching ...

App Wrap Up (Thursday Edition, 6th September 2012)

It's that time again, time for your favourite column (don't deny it), the app wrap up! As always i have some titles to show you that look interesting and could be fun to play based on their trailers. If you try any of them, please let us know what you think in the comments. Without further ado, let's start this! Roll the Ball 3D (Prince Kumar)

This reminds me a lot of Boost 3D, only here you have a large life bar, and are controlling a sphere. Over time you speed up, and it looks like the controls are pretty tight. Could be a fun endless roller.

Wild Blood Review

It may have taken some time for it to finally happen, but Gameloft have finally busted out their first Unreal Engine powered title for the App Store. For many people, such a thing is a minor concern, because - and let’s be honest - Gameloft titles have been far from ugly thus far. Wild Blood rides in on the heels of previous releases like Hero of Sparta, however instead of beating up Gods you’ll crack the skulls of various demons in this Arthurian-legend based beat’em-up.

King's Bounty: Legions Review

While it's hard to complain about the price of freemium games, the content is often questionable and reliant on gating players towards its paid-for features, arguably by devious means. There are many exceptions to many rules and King's Bounty: Legions is just such a game. Either playable on the PC through Facebook or via iOS on your iPad, it's a scaled down version of the popular turn-based tactical title that retains the combat and trades resource management for crafting and 'energy'. <...

Mikey Shorts Review

I almost feel sick of needing to make the point so often, but if you're going to make a platformer, you need to make the core gameplay (that is to say, running and jumping) feel good. In some cases it's a matter of responsiveness from the controls, and in others its anything from the physics to the character animations, but in Mikey Shorts by BeaverTap, none of these things are a problem. In fact you'd be forgiven for thinking someone from Rocketcat Games ran away with someone from Ra...
