QI's top 10 iPhone Games for October 2012

October has come and gone, so now it's time to look over the past month and see what the Quality Index has to say about what the top games were. 1. Punch Quest
2. Need for Speed: Most Wanted
3. Fighting Fantasy: Blood of the Zombies
4. Letterpress - Word Game
5. On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3
6. Wimp: Who Stole My Pants? HD
7. Catch-22
8. Bad Piggies
9. Devil's Attorney
10. The Last Express
Now our own Top 3 of the month has yet to come out, but October was full of amazing releases, and I'm positive you'll see most of the same titles pop up when Andrew finally gets around to recording and uploading it (zing!). On a personal n... Read More

N.Y.Zombies 2 Review

N.Y.Zombies 2 Review

N.Y.Zombies 2 by Foursaken Media is the sort of game that makes you glad that a developer is willing to listen to their fans. Building upon the original in just about every way, it's still a flawed experience, but one that manages to exploit the mixed state of realism and fantasy. No lengthy story set up is needed - zombies are here and you need to survive. What follows is a series of missions that follow a fairly basic story filled with protecting survivors and attempting to escape t...

Polyroll Review

Polyroll Review

Polyroll is a platformer that takes more than a little inspiration from the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. The evil Kaiser Kiwi has captured Polyroll's friends, and through rolling, jumping, collecting gems, and power-ups, it's up to you as the player to save them (There is ambiguity here as I am not really sure exactly what kind of creature Polyroll is meant to be). Graphically a lot of the game suffers from this issue. The sprite art is pretty competent and varied, and looks like...

FAA's Free Daily App - DrawRace 2

We're working together with the team at Free App Alliance to highlight a great free app for you to check out everyday and today's deal is one we've personally given a huge thumbs up with a 5/5. "DrawRace 2 is an award-winning racer that's packed full of content, including a gymkhana skill game and a single-player campaign that features no fewer than 180 challenges.

In this high-speed racer, you navigate your motor around a series of detailed top-down tracks by drawing your vehicle's path with your finger.

The speed at which you trace the racing line on your device's screen dictates the acceleration and deceleration of your car. Don't expect an easy ride, basically.... Read More

Heroes & Castles - Control Your Army From The Battlefield

While we wait for more news about Foursaken Media's upcoming release of N.Y. Zombies 2, the team is proud to show off another of their projects - Heroes & Castles. Players are placed right down on the battlefield, selecting from one of three heroes (Warrior, Paladin or Engineer), and directing their forces while fending off foes. In a way it reminds me of the Dynasty Warriors formula, albeit with more of a real-time strategy edge. Players may find themselve deep in battle with a horde of enemies where "you'll look to your right as 20 Peons hold the line against skeleton warriors... on your left 2 giants smash their clubs into a goblin horde, knocking them 20 feet back in all direction... Gamelion releases League of Heroes

Gamelion, the developer behind Monster Shooter and Doodle Fit has released a new free-to-play hack and slasher called League of Heroes. Set in a rich fantasy universe populated with gorgeous, hand drawn 2D sprites, the game looks to riff on the likes of Zelda, giving you an isometric world to attack with your trusty weapon. The game offers enormous boss battles, huge hordes of enemies for you to slice and dice your way through, and a huge number of quests to sate the adventurer's urge in all of us. League of Heroes is available right now from the App Store for nothing at all, and we've embedded a trailer below so you can get a taste of the brightly coloured fantasy violence you're going... FAA's Free App of the Day – Random Heroes

Sadly we just missed out on a deal for Super Crate Box, but for those after another solid platformer, check out the Free App Alliance's latest pick! "Random Heroes is another excellent platformer from Ravenous Games. That's the studio responsible for equally excellent League of Evil 1 and 2. Basically, you have to take control of one of 15 different heroes, and attempt to save the world across more than 30 levels. You have guns and other weapons to help you out, but don't expect a walk in the park - this is one tricky game." Trailer: You can check out our review of Random Heroes here (note the game has been updated since this release - so take the plunge!) Download... Read More

App Wrap Up (Tuesday Edition, 23rd October 2012)

Hey hey everyone! It's a Tuesday, and while we don't normally have an App Wrap Up today, my list of interesting games to showcase is bursting at the seams, so let's get started! As always, our impressions and choices are based solely on the trailers. Got it? Good. Let's go! Spectrum Run (Tobias Hagemann)

Kind of cut from the same cloth as last week's reviewed Polara, this is an endless runner based on changing to the appropriate colour to make it through the obstacles. It adds an extra level of reaction based thinking to deal with and due to this, could turn into a great challenge or horrendous frustration.

Borderlands set to make its iOS debut

According to a page from the digital strategy guide for Borderlands 2 dug up by IGN, It looks like 2K's post apocalyptic RPG/FPS hybrid is set to make its bow on mobile devices. Borderlands Legends takes place in the same rich universe as its console brethren, and features Roland, Lilith, Mordecai, and Brick - the stars of the original Borderlands - in a wave based battle built specifically for iOS devices. The game, which sees you leading your favourite character in a series of randomised missions, levelling them up and gaining powers as you do, is set to see the light of day sometime this month, although no firm release date has been given just yet. Still, it's good to see another pop... Read More

Sometimes it's not so hip to be a Square

Especially when the name of the game is Square Planet. Pending Apple approval, this will be out on October 19th, and is an artistically beautiful looking 2.5D platformer. Let's hope the gameplay matches up. Have a look at the trailer. Read More

QI's top 10 iPhone Games for September 2012

While we're already off and running in the month of October, the QI list of the top games for September is up, so let us take a look at what that list contains. 1. Poker Tools
2. FIFA 13
3. God of Blades
4. Gingy
5. Rayman Jungle Run
6. Blast-A-Way
7. Bad Piggies
8. Crafty Creatures
9. Pocket Trucks
10. Linkie Now our top 3 isn't out just yet, but it'll be interesting to see if there are any match ups. I expect Bad Piggies to be mentioned, and maybe God of Blades or Rayman: Jungle Run. What i find kinda iffy though is that Poker Tools isn't even a game... it's an app to study the odds of poker hands. QI has seperate lists for games and apps ... Read More

Friday News Wrap-Up 5 October 2012

We’re back in the groove and it’s a new month, so keep an eye out for our Top 3 picks for September 2012. In the meantime lets talk about some of the hottest news from the last week or so, because I’ll be honest, there’s some eye-openers to talk about.

This is the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 5th of October, 2012. Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour

The annual update to Gameloft’s top selling shooter franchise is looming upon us and the developer is keen to show off just how pretty it looks. Set (one can only guess) in the tropical climate of Hawaii, there’s a distinct ultra-modern touch to proceedings that could open the path to som... Read More

Glu Mobile releases trailer for Deathdome

Glu Mobile has released the first trailer for its upcoming Infinity Blade style hack, slash, and blocker, Deathdome, and it's looking pretty impressive indeed. The trailer shows off a gritty, post apocalyptic wasteland that owes more than a little to 2K's Borderlands, and a little bit more than that to Mad Max 2. It looks like you're job is going to be pulverising mutant gladiators in the titular Deathdome, using touch screen swipes and taps to attack and dodge. The game is set to release for iOS and Android devices in the not too distant future, and you can check out the entertainingly violent trailer embedded below. Via Phandroid Read More

LookOut - Blizzard Review

LookOut - Blizzard Review

No one ever thinks about the plight of the poor snowball. Created to be hurled, rolled, exploded and forgotten. Even its dreams of growing and becoming something more can be stopped by the callous whims of the elements. In this tale of snowball survival the stakes are a lot higher, with literal elemental forces of fire, water, and earth among others, shooting cross screen to turn our balled protagonist into nothing more than a hail of white powder. In design Lookout-Blizzard plays a l...

Gibbets 2 Review

Gibbets 2 Review

Sometimes it’s hard to know whether a game is controlling badly because you’ve missed some key bit of information, or because the game itself has poor controls. Gibbets 2 by HeroCraft had me pondering this problem on the second level - which I might point out took quite a few tries before I worked it out - and ultimately it was a little bit of column A and B, but the damage had already been done. Your task, should you take it, is to aim a bow and rescue the people being hu...
