GTA: San Andreas rated for PS3

Entertainment Software Ratings Board listing suggests 2004 open-world action game to see new life on Sony platform; Vice City re-rated.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been rated for the PlayStation 3. The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has published a new rating for Rockstar Games' 2004 open-world action game, suggesting the title will be released on Sony's home console through the PlayStation Network.

In addition, the ESRB has re-rated Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PS3, following an original rating in January 2012. A Rockstar representative was not immediately available for comment.

If GTA: San Andreas and Vice City do release for the PS3 through the PlayStation Network, they will follow GTA III, which landed in Sony's virtual marketplace last month.

Additionally, this news comes on the heels of Rockstar's announcement last week that GTA: Vice City will release for iOS and Android devices later this fall in commemoration of the game's tenth anniversary.

So you can't just play this game using a PS2 disk? Or are they going to add more content to it?

blackace 440 pts

I haven't completed any of the GTA games. Just don't have the time. I really need to go back and finish all these games.

Barber228 7 pts

will only buy in hard copy, hd remake please and thank you.

itchyflop 242 pts

my one regret in life is not completing San Andreas possibly one of the best games ever. huge in scale and wonderfully challenging. im gonna download this

Venatorcruiser 141 pts

itchyflop well then if you still have the game stick it on and enjoy hours of mayhem and fun

BasilVZero 39 pts

Love the GTA series especially San Andreas and Vice City! Although would love to play them again on a console, I think I'll go and get the PC versions! (especially since I still have my original copies of the games :) )

turnerdoc 17 pts

man i already own ps2 and have 2  vice city 1 for pc for back to the future mod 2 san andreas and  have the complete collection gta forever

Bensonator 13 pts

MIssed a trick in not making them HD. Vice City is my fave of the series - Just love cruising around with the 80's tune blaring out - sweet

tightwad34 516 pts

While I get why they come out with remakes, especially for video games, I am not interested in them. There are too many games constantly coming out, plus I have no desire to play games I have already beat and moved on from.

TheKeef 45 pts

Still have a PS2 rocking and rolling and in my collection is ... drum roll.. pre-censorship San Andreas.

The only thing I would replay VC and SA on PS3 for is.. an HD Remake, as others have said, preferably in hard copy . Other than that, I'll stick with the original.

shmedo 20 pts

I wish they'd release GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas as a HD collection!

Venatorcruiser 141 pts

shmedo if they do end up bringing it out i will be getting just to replay some of my old favourites

vallee05 40 pts

Vice city was my favorite GTA in concept and theme. The only thing the newer games in the series has over Vice City is graphics and larger maps. I would enjoy having this, but would prefer a hardcopy HD collection as a gamer and collector.

GetafixOz 103 pts

This is good news. I think VC may have been my favorite installment and I could actually see myself playing through it again on the big screen. Maybe its rose coloured glasses, I dunno, but I like the idea. Or as my corporate overlords(work) would say "we support the concept in principal". Which means do it and it works, we will take credit. Do it and it fails, your on your own lol.

victorlamy 64 pts

so what we're taking a low res game and stretching it to fit our tvs or we're gonna make the game look better? (square hands anyone?)

shadowhunter0 392 pts

victorlamy actually you could but the game in widescreen on the ps2  and it didn't stretch it just had to have a widescreen tv

jjgator 5 pts

shadowhunter0  victorlamy That's true. I downloaded GTA 3 on PSN and set it to widescreen in the options and on the emulator and it looks pretty good.

yavix 59 pts

I'm definitely going to re buy it. I don't care if it has no add-ons. I love that game enough said.

SoNin360 207 pts

Having departed from my PS2 a long while back, I'd love for the opportunity to play this game again. Really wish they would do an HD remake, but that seems unlikely. Trophies would be nice too for me personally, but if it's just a direct port then I might as well adjust myself to gaming on a PC and playing it on there than overpaying for it on the PS3.

ShadowMoses900 55 pts

I got GTA3 off of PSN and was very disappointed, it was a lazy port. If you are going to bring San Andreas and Vice City to PSN do it right, make them in HD, add trophies, some new content etc....all the basics of other HD remakes. Do that Rockstar and I will buy it.

visionedorange 128 pts

san andreas is among the "legendary" group of games

ExtremePhobia 93 pts

visionedorange It's true. It's kind of funny because it doesn't have quite the mind blowing sensation that you get from some other games like Bioshock and Modern Warfare where there's a moment that just changes everything. It's more just a testament of what a game can be when all the parts work perfectly together.

premier024 13 pts

ExtremePhobia  visionedorange You were doing really good up until you said CoD did anything worth seeing.

Phil-teh-Pirate 135 pts

 premier024  ExtremePhobia  visionedorange

Tell me the first time you played CoD 4 MW, you didn't think "Wow, they just kicked the FPS genre up a notch" because I sure as hell did. Doesn't matter if they milked it to death later on, the first was an amazing, unique game.

shadowhunter0 392 pts

ExtremePhobia  visionedorange when I first played it when it was release on the ps2 it was mind blowing and that moment is still one of my favorite gaming moments

kmaoO 13 pts

I would play this game again, no questions asked. I don't even care about the terrible video quality.

The game starts with Samuel Jackson... For pete's sake! xD

Venatorcruiser 141 pts

kmaoO i just finished it again an hour ago

kmaoO 13 pts

 Venatorcruiser you da man!

Harrydapro 118 pts

Are they going to re-release all the 3D GTA games..?

higherflyerJ 114 pts

If it's not HD it's gonna look like crap, so don't get too excited people.  I have the downloadable version on 360 and it looks absolutely terrible.

valensim 14 pts

higherflyerJ He's right, it's not worth it, but if u don't own these games or never played them, it's worth u'r money.

Jadedfever 124 pts

higherflyerJ I agree with you,but it wasn't bad it had faster load times, and less lag,but yeah the quality was shit hope rockstar release it for both ps3 and xbox 360 as HD,but anyways who cares GTA 5 is gonna go back to san andreas :)

xolivierx 275 pts

The game was hella cool on Ps2 but I'm just wondering why couldn't they make it into a HD version...they will eventually so the next Q is why the hell should I buy the pixelated version of this game on the psn? I don't mind dloading old ps1 games, even use emulator to play old dos games NEs Master system and sush, but being asked to pay 15$ for a cluster foak of pixels , no thank you Sony. Just give us what we want already.

Harrydapro 118 pts

pizzaman107 If you have the original, there's no point in re-buying.

pizzaman107 8 pts

Harrydapro its like my favourite game even if i did have a wroking copy on the ps2 id still buy

Harrydapro 118 pts

Favourite game or not, there's no point buying it if you already have the original copy. It's exactly the same.

Evildude683 15 pts

Why isn't Sony releasing the GTA HD Collection? All of he GTA games are worth the HD transfer.

deon99 35 pts

Evildude683 That's not up to Sony Rockstar would have to update the games. And seeing that there still making GTA 5 and possibly another red dead it's a longshot.

SolidTy 1367 pts

Once GTA III came out for PS3, this was only a matter of time...

ChemicalReaper 145 pts

I wish they'd remake San Andreas and III with the GTA V engine. That would be awesome.

RubMyDucky 40 pts

ChemicalReaper They already are... it's called GTA V.

CommanderShiro 22 pts

San Andreas will be instant buy for me. My original copy doesn't work anymore. I've been itching to replay this game for longest time.

Evildude683 15 pts

CommanderShiro Same here, I just hope they have trophy support!

Iranazi 23 pts

Evildude683  CommanderShiro It won't be a hd remake, just a psn release, so it won't have trophies, though with all the hd remakes gta should've had one

JimmeyBurrows 419 pts

If it isn't being improved in some way, there's no realy point in buying it again, just another way Sony is helping company's sell something to you twice. I'll stick with emulating my original copys.

JDWolfie 83 pts

Pointless. Didn't even bother updating the graphics for GTA3. You would be buying the same game again.
