The Real Southern Food Trend

With last month’s Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium in Mississippi heavy on her mind, LA Weekly’s Besha Rodell explains why Southern food is trending so hard right now, even in Los Angeles. Forget the Rhett and Scarlett pastiche of a place like Sassafras in Hollywood. Rodell explains why Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s Animal and Son of a Gun are true expressions of Southern cooking. “My wish for L.A., and the whole country, is that comfort, hospitality and a love and respect for American foodways are our takeaway, not false nostalgia.” Read Rodell's article here.
