Hobo With A Shotgun Review

Not quite "attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion"

"Astonishingly tasteless" and "authentically lawless", "Jesse Eisener's faux-awful video nasty throwback" appears to be the best Rutger Hauer vehicle since Blade Runner.

The plot sees Hauer's titular murderous bum washing up in lawless Hope Town, which is probably as close as we'll get to a cinematic version of Saint Row 3's Steelport. Minus the omni-present purples and bling, obvs.

The direction is excellent, "with Eisener's ram-raiding camera keeping low and mobile," and the composition is "affectionately observed, right down to the vintage Technicolor logo, saturated colours and ever-present lens flare.

"Make no mistake, though, this is Hauer's film and he grabs it two-handed. With a slack mouth forever twitching at some half-remembered truth, eyes that have seen things us people definitely wouldn't believe and that apocalyptic voice, his Hobo is a genuinely unhinged creation - what grizzled would look like if it really let itself go."

  1. This film is ridiculously good. Best film I've seen all year, mostly because it's so OTT, and it's got Rutger Frickin Hauer.
