Metal Gear Solid 4: 25th Anniversary Edition spotted

New version of Konami's 2008 PlayStation 3 action game spotted at United Kingdom retailers.

Konami is preparing a "25th Anniversary Edition" of its 2008 action game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. That's according to United Kingdom-based retailers Zavvi and ShopTo (via Eurogamer), which have posted product listings for a new PlayStation 3 game due November 30.

Konami has not announced any such product, and the publisher was not immediately available for comment.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots launched in June 2008. It did not receive any downloadable content, but a patch this summer brought Trophy support to the game. Additionally, its multiplayer component--Metal Gear Solid Online--was taken offline in June.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebration for the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Konami this summer announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes as well as a full-length feature film based on the series.

I sold my copy of MGS4 a wile back and wish I wouldn't have. I can't find it anywhere, except online, and I hate buying stuff online. So this is nice to hear. With that, I don't really like re-releases, but I can make an exception here.

HipHopBeats 338 pts

Metal Gear Solid should remain a PS3 exclusive. Xbox has Skyrim DLC to keep them busy. Bring on the hate replies! Lol!

Link3301 65 pts

Hope there's a 360 version this time.

zzamaro 415 pts

Link3301 No. It says "only on playstation"  on the cover.

Hell no, after Halo not coming for PC, I hope to GOD this stays on PS3 just out of spite.

azrulshahimy 26 pts

I would totally buy this again..if they get rid of the need to reinstall data every damn chapter!

Gamer_4_Fun 559 pts

azrulshahimy They already did with the latest patch.

azrulshahimy 26 pts

Gamer_4_Fun Really? Then i guess it's time to dust off my copy! Thanks!

brainiac1988 143 pts

I want a MGS1 remake with MGS4 graphics!

Sadly its never going to happen, kojima himself said so. Silicon Knights already did that poor remake on the Gamecube back in 2004.

Oh well, 2 multiplatform spin-offs are under way.. MG Rising and MGS Ground zeroes. Plus, MGS5 has been announced!

hollyfreak 10 pts

brainiac1988Well ,canonically , MGS Ground Zeroes is not a spin-off , just like both Portable Ops & Peace Walker weren't spin-offs either, all these titles fits into the canon storyline of the series. But the GBC MGS:Ghost Babel  &  both the PSP Acid! & Acid!2 ,together with MG Rising like you said , only these are spin-offs

GH05T-666 151 pts

MGS is simply the best game series i have ever played!

bradley_michael 5 pts

Dragon_Nexus the box says only on playstation

shureshot24 51 pts

Subsistence Version? I would buy that.

Scorpion1813 477 pts

What does this offer that the original release didn't?

There is no point in me buying this game again if the only difference is the box art.

However, if this is some sort of "Subsistence" release... I'll think about it. But it depends what the extras are!

Leboyo56 17 pts

I fail to see why Konami didn't release MGS 1 and 2 and one of the portable games in the first HD collection (instead of 2, 3, and Peace Walker), and didn't put 3, 4, and the other portable game on a second collection. I know MGS4 is already in HD but you know, just for the whole package and all, and maybe some added extras.

GPRx3 6 pts

@Leboyo56 I think Konami are going to release a remastered MGS soon. And I know Kojima has said this will never happen, but he has also said after EVERY MGS game that it is definitley his last.

Daian 786 pts

I would totally get this if I had a new platform in the budget but I can't get a PS3 anytime soon. *sad violin music*

I'd rather they completley remade the Original Metal Gear 1 & 2 (into full 3D Up to date Games) than buy a game I still have.

talool1 14 pts

Norrie91 MG or MGS? cause if you're referring to MGS1 there is a remake for it called Twin Snakes, not 3D(not even HD) but heck that's definitely prettier than the original release.

Norrie91 118 pts

talool1  I know I've still got Twin Snakes too.

I mean Thee Originals as in the very first ones, Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. That would be awesome if they did that.

talool1 14 pts

Norrie91 Not sure if worth the digging but if you're REALLY into playing the second one you can I THINK(but i'm not sure about it) the Xbox version of MGS3 has it, but once again i'm not 100 perent sure about it. . .

About a "proper" remake? . . . . . . . One can only dream.

Norrie91 118 pts

Unless it has a demo for Revengence or Ground Zeroes whats the point?

Strider8009 118 pts

Norrie91 They can be available for free on PSN and XBLA.

Marcster1994 79 pts

I'm still wondering why I didn't playing this yet after playing the others. I want to play it but... something is making not want to.

mrfidget 56 pts

You wanna, like, port it to 360? That'd be nice.

PeterDuck 600 pts

 mrfidget

sure, but you would need 3-4 discs to fit the game on.

wizardboyus 105 pts

WILL METAL GEAR ONLINE COME BACK THEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Different name for Essential

realguitarhero5 77 pts

This is an odd name for a game that is 4 years old.

BrickMcIronhard 38 pts

realguitarhero5 Well, they mean Metal Gear as a franchise is 25 years old, but yeah, it's a confusing title on it's own.

abnergoinbig 324 pts

I bought the greatest hits version but hate the case lol. I'll pick this up IF the price is reasonable.

Skysscreams 12 pts

I think the MGS Series is a definiton of game. If some1 in future ask me what is video game i ll anserw - MGS

mnbmnbmnb107 5 pts

Mr_Big_Boss The reporter failed to mention that there was two dlc map packs for the online component and a whole bunch of free dlc for the single player campaign. But this is also easy to get wrong because you had to buy this this from Konami and you couldn't get it from the Playstation store

Megavideogamer 439 pts

So this is just a release of Metal Gear Solid 4. To mark the 25th Anni of this epic series. If anyone has missed this game in 2008. Now you have a chance to catch up on this episode before Metal Gear Solid 5? Which could make it to Playstation 3 and/or Playstation 4.

dnguyen3 107 pts

Summary of most comments below. What else does this game contain other than the game itself?

shadow580 285 pts

If it's a Subsistence version then ka-ching! I freaking love this game and would gladly want more from it.

Gblazer01 55 pts

If they do rerelease MGS4, it's almost mandatory that they reopen MGO but make vast improvements on it. It was very fun but the user interface was beyond convoluted. There were like 34284397 rooms you could join - all bearing a name from characters in the MGS series, and then once you join a room there was a list of matches you could join and ONLY IF YOU WERE LUCKY, you'd be able to join a match; most of the time the matches were either password blocked or full. I won't even mention the horrendous "shopping" aspect of the multiplayer ..ugh, now I see why they took it off xD ( I do realize that isn't the sole reason why MGO closed down -_-).

mstrchf12 102 pts

What the hell does this edition contain?? Coz I can get MGS4 dirt cheap right now and just install the patch. Hopefully it contains some cool extra stuff and is 30$

NeonNinja 265 pts

Unless this is to be a multiplatform release there's little reason in releasing this game.  MGS4 is an easy to find game anywhere else and I doubt too many people will pick this up just for the sake of a few extras.

mstrchf12 102 pts

NeonNinja I really doubt MGS4 is going multiplat. After all you can't just bring a 25+ gig game to the 360.

NeonNinja 265 pts

 mstrchf12

Not saying it's going multiplat or that it should go multiplat.  But aside from a multiplat release, I don't see what they're trying to accomplish by re-releasing MGS4.  Besides, it clearly says "Only on PS" on the coverart, so I'm not saying it is, but it brings up the issue of WTF is the point of this re-release?

mstrchf12 102 pts

NeonNinja I agree. For people like me who bought MGS4 when it came out back in 2008, this is a waste of time unless it has something really worthwhile.

GPRx3 6 pts

@mstrchf12 @NeonNinja You can... On multiple discs. Not hard, but definitely bothersome.
