Mass Effect 3 patch released this week

BioWare says largest patch for role-playing game will fix bugs, gameplay exploits and platform-specific issues.

BioWare will release the largest patch to date for Mass Effect 3 this week, promising to fix a range of issues for both the console versions and the PC version of the role-playing game.

The patch promises to fix technical issues, gameplay exploits, and platform-specific problems including game-crashing bugs, tutorial pop-ups, multiplayer powers, enemy behaviour, and others.

The full list of what has been fixed is now available on the BioWare forum.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players will be prompted to update their games with the new patch. PC players will have to download the patch through Origin.

In a Twitter post, BioWare producer Michael Gamble said that the patch will set the studio up for "future things". Last month, the studio revealed that it is planning to add additional content to Mass Effect 3, including the Omega DLC slated for later this year.

On top of a further DLC for Mass Effect 3, BioWare also recently confirmed that a brand new Mass Effect game is in the works, with Casey Hudson returning as executive producer. No information is available about the game yet, but BioWare producer Michael Gamble teased in February that the studio had "so much to draw from."

too little, too late.  me3 killed the magic and my meu series became the lemmings of 2012 and committed suicide by jumping of my shelf into the bin.  :(

Wow.  People still crying about the ME ending.  It's been quite a while now.... please shut up.  The old ending was sub-par, certainly not bad enough to ruin an amazing trilogy.  The new ending was fine.  No complaints.  But even if I had complaints I WOULD THINK AFTER THIS LONG I'D HAVE GOTTEN OVER THEM.  Self-entitled crybabies.

Here's an idea - how about releasing less downscaled versions of the textures for PC ME3 players as opposed to the low resolution console textures we're currently stuck with? These assets do exist - BioWare simply haven't released them.Further, why are PC players still being treated terribly by BioWare in this regard? No hotkeys for the Journal or Squad screens, no controller support, broken keyboard support in menus, no graphical options and the list goes on.

BioWare/EA make significantly more profit per PC sale than they do from each console sale, yet they still treat their PC customers with complete contempt. This is a worrying trend (Darksiders II is another recent example), with a few studios thankfully doing the right thing and setting an example to be followed (Gearbox, Square Enix, Rocksteady)

Until this game hits Steam minus EA crapware, I don't care.

psicat1976 12 pts

lokar82 Ah, a Valve crapware fanboy.

Supergrunt16 5 pts

psicat1976  lokar82 Ah, but of course EA has released a digital platform which is totally stable and allows you to connect to its games without any problems. Games on it are definitely not overpriced and its customer support can fix even the most complex of issues by giving you a 25% off coupon. Considering Valve actually makes quality games and releases quality software for free, with no crappy DLC and cares about its customers,  I would say its a great deal better than most other companies.

AlexFili 17 pts

Supergrunt16  psicat1976  lokar82 Every major company is using a digital platform. Whether it's Steam, Origin or uPlay, it's the future.

Supergrunt16 5 pts

AlexFili  psicat1976  lokar82 Yep. But that's not really the point. EA's Origins is crap. I am so sick of having to go onto their support every week to fix problems. Whereas Valve has been constantly improving Steam, especially in the past months with huge amount of new stuff.

When did Casey Hudson go from Project Lead style positions (you know, actual game development) to Executive Producer?  LOLWUT?  Granted, if he is continuing on as an "executive producer" that means he would have very little to do with any decision making for Mass Effect going forward.  Which would be fantastic, since Mac Walters and Casey butchered the end of 3.

Wait, didn't we defeat the reapers.. ain't we done ?

ghstbstr 74 pts

Is this patch going to fix the ending, or umm the newer crappy extended ending?

I want a totally different ending.

moonlightwolf01 388 pts

Bit late for a patch I purged this trash from my system months ago, even the multiplayer got stale after a while and that was the almost the only thing they did right.

ninjaroach81 166 pts

After looking at the fixes, it still doesn't look like they addressed the problem of achievement counters getting periodically reset.  WTF?

Am I the only one who's appalled that this is the 4TH PATCH FOR A GAME THAT HAS BEEN OUT FOR JUST OVER 9 MONTHS???  Back in the bad-old days of "ship then patch," us users would crucify publishers for releasing software this buggy; based on the response from the BioWare forums, it's all sunshine and rainbows that they fixed a few more of the issues (but not all of them, apparently!).  Has it just become acceptable that we're buying flawed software, and to be thankful when the company releases a patch to correct issues that SHOULD HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED DURING DE-BUG AND BETA TESTING???  ME3 is the buggiest console game I have ever played, and one of the buggiest games I've ever played, and I'm someone who actually bought and played Diakatana!

ghstbstr 74 pts

 ninjaroach81

In the "old days days" you couldn't "ship then patch", because once a game was shipped there was no way to patch it.

ninjaroach81 166 pts

ghstbstr That was true for console games, but a lot of PC games were notorious for being excessively buggy.  That's what makes this so disappointing; back when I was exclusively PC gaming, one of the things I envied about consoles were that their games worked from day one, with rarely any issues.  That is not the case today...

moonlightwolf01 388 pts

ghstbstr  ninjaroach81 once they have your money they couldn't really care less, Its the new bioware customer care policy.

ninjaroach81 166 pts

moonlightwolf01  ghstbstr Can't really argue with that; unfortunately, that appears to be the attitude of the industry in general.  It's pre-1983 crash all over again...

The new mass effect game is gonna be called Mass Effect Garrus, where you play as Garrus the bounty hunter. If you got SPOILERS the everyone dies ending, then as soon as you load your savegame from 3, you get a GAME OVER screen.

Just kidding, they have got to stop it with the whole game-importing thing, I mean sooner or later they're gonna have a giant tangled ball of plots where plotholes are impossible to avoid. We'll see what they do.

This next ME is most likely going to be a prequel.

"train wreck"?...SHUT UP...just shut up. It had its flaws but it was still a fantastic journey.

mingolo 41 pts

The problem with ME3 it's not "just the end," the entire story in the third game is forced and full of plot holes and things that make no sense, the ending it's just the tip of the iceberg. To properly fix the ending, they'd have to re-do large parts of the main story that affect the ending, including but not limited to take into account some very big plot holes that should have highly affected the story but didn't, entirely re-doing the crucible and how it is treated throughout the whole game so it doesn't turn out to be some cheap deux ex machinima at the end, properly taking care of the Cerberus situation (I agreed with everything TIM said in ME2 AND ME3 and ended the ME2 on good terms with him, they never even bothered to explain why I'm suddenly their enemy in ME3), etc...

In other words, it's never going to happen. The ME series is ruined, and there is no going back. *shrugs*

everyday182 69 pts

mingolo Because the 1st one had ZERO plot holes o_O Its a Story with 10000s of combinations, a few plot wholes are hardly worth fretting over :) IMO... But as for TIM you CONSTANTLY state that what the reapers DO is disgusting to Shep as a character. TIM has now crossed the line with the experiments and is doing the same as the reapers, why would shep NOT hate him? But anyhows I dint mean this to start an argument was just saying :) Shame the series was ruined for you dude! :(

mingolo 41 pts

I don't mean to argue either, I don't care who disagrees, this is my opinion, take it as you like.

I  any case, I forgot to say in my original post, can't forget about making major decisions from past games actually matter to the story...that's a big one. None of the major decisions from ME1 and ME2 have any effect besides one or two lines of dialogue.

everyday182 69 pts

mingolo Yeh, but when i started thinking about it niether did ME1 or ME2 for example Letting the counsil die or not didnt Impact ME2 at all :S in ME2 saving or destroying the collectors made no diff so to be honest i wanst exspecting ME3 to give me much freedom either :/ but yeh totally get what your saying!

cryingdevil63 122 pts

 mingolo mingolo pls.........

Stop reviving dead threads, this whole thing has been THOROUGHLY discussed a thousand times already........

96augment 111 pts

mingolo  Wasn't Shepard upset at the Illusive Man for trying to control the Reapers and doing experiments on humans? I thought that the Stargazer was the cheap deus ex machina.

TruthTellers 397 pts

So... ME3 wasn't completely tested out when it was released in March? It becomes more and more obvious everyday that ME3 was rushed.

-Jonce- 92 pts

All this hate for Mass Effect is childish which spills over like a kicked vomit bucket when ever ME news is posted. They made 3 fantastic games and people just rubbish the entire series due to 15 minutes at the end.

Lets judge them by the first 100+ hours of gameplay and not the final 15 minutes, huh?.

ninjaroach81 166 pts

-Jonce- Sorry, can't back you up on the 3 fantastic game point.  More like 1 fantastic game and 2 good ones; ME2 and ME3 were more than a little disappointing.

emperiox 516 pts

-Jonce- because the end was crap and DID ruin the entire trilogy...

Brb gonna file another FTC complaint on them for false advertisement.

I wouldn't have thought that people still care about ME3 at this point in the year.
