Infinity Ward's face of Call of Duty steps down

Robert Bowling resigns from role as creative strategist for first-person shooter developer, leaves Activision entirely.

One of the names most closely associated with the Call of Duty franchise has stepped away from Activision, as Robert Bowling today announced on his Twitter account that he is resigning from his role as creative strategist for the series.

"Today, I resign from my position as Creative Strategist of Call of Duty, as a lead of Infinity Ward, and as an employee of Activision," Bowling wrote.

As of press time, Bowling had not returned a request for comment on the reasons for his departure or what he plans to do next. The split appears to be amicable, however, judging by a post on the Twitter account of his now-former employer, Infinity Ward.

"We wish Robert all the best. Thanks for everything," the studio posted on its account. As for who will fill Bowling's shoes, the Infinity Ward Twitter post merely suggested that interested gamers follow @infinityward for future updates on the Modern Warfare series and all matters related to the studio.

Bowling had been with Infinity Ward since 2006 and previously served as the studio's community relations manager.

Since 2006 huh. To me this sounds like he was the community relations manager when CoD4 came out, did a good job and they made him the "Creative Strategist" for all future MW releases while forcing him and the rest of Infinity Ward to tight budgets, quick deadlines and ridiculous expectations. Theres a reason why so many employee's left Infinity Ward. Most of the employee's today are a shell of what they were with the release of CoD 4, or they're completely gone like Robert Bowling now. Publishers are evil, treating developers to extreme near sweat-shop conditions just to make a petty penny.

@speedfreak48t5p You do realise the fact you referred to Burnout 3 means anything you state from now on I will take as law.. that game was the best out of them all. I don't think it was a matter of Criterion being brave though, I think EA just grabbed them by the balls. It changed far too quickly. Paradise was good I agree, but I'd much prefer a closed circuit game again with more tracks and vehicles. An open-world racer just isn't the burnout recipe. Anyhows, good response pal. Couldn't agree more with the COD reference :P

Ya, I agree with most posters, i found this guys voice and attitude very annoying, idk why, I just didnt like him from the moment i saw him, like maybe its cause he has a "punch-able" face.... idk, i just never liked this guy

Thank God, I hate this guy, every new COD game and DLC he advertises it like it is the greatest thing we have ever seen. I put alot of blame on him for COD becoming the same rehashed trash over and over again. Good riddance Mr. Bowling.

If I was that guy I'd take my billions and quit, too. He looks like he's 25 years old. Must be pretty sweet to be at that age with enough money to buy a small country. Of course, on the plus side to the rest of us, maybe the next COD will be a little bit...... dare I say it...... different?

thanks for re-skinning modern warfare 4 three times and selling them full price. COD has become the epitome of "milking" a series.

@warhawk-geeby I liked Paradise a lot actually, just not as much as the masterpiece known as Burnout 3 Takedown. This is funny being the comments section on a Call of Duty article. Why I liked Paradise was how brave it was and how Criterion wasn't afraid to do something different with their beloved franchise. Call of Duty on the other hand........

I didn't know that rearranging backgrounds, and reskinning guns was called being a "Creative Strategist".

@thewasedyouth: As someone who loves racing games, I find your comment on racing games only being bought by the people who are "destroying" the industry, very offensive and ignorant. Most serious gamer like myself love racing games like Forza, Burnout, and Driver San Francisco. Please edit you message or remove it. Thanks.

Considering this guy's job is a creative strategist, he certainly wasn't doing a very good job, was he?

Robert Bowlingface: no one could lie, deceive, and misdirect with such a consistent ****-eating grin. Go now. Go where all the weasels go when they simply can't reconcile their conscience any longer.

Every man has his limits. There comes a day when you just can't LIE with a grin on your face all the time. Also, I didn't know he was the LEAD of IW! O_o I always thought he was merely a PR manager - pretty small position.

"Today, I resign from my position as Creative Strategist of Call of Duty, as a lead of Infinity Ward, and as an employee of Activision," Bowling wrote. No offense Robert, but after MW1 there really wasn't much creativeness going on at all :|

I bet that character was one of the douches that drove Vince and Zampella away. I wish him all the worst.

@IWAOlympus I haven't bought a CoD game since MW2, and I wasn't going to even buy that. I bought it because it's all my friends IRL played. Since then, I've just decided to not play games with them online.

Incredible how a resigning is enough to make flaming posts blast away... Never played CoD, don't know this person, so, care not...

This is great for him. I think he should use his degree with a different company instead of being forced to put out the same BS every year.

jayd02

so what did he do for the past few years because we got the same game twice? what really happened is they called him in to fire him and he just left first to keep his dignity.

IWAOlympus

The amount of hate for the Call of Duty series seems to only be equaled by the amount of people who bought the game. Why do people continually plunk down $60+ a year for something they hate with every fiber of their being?

"Creative Strategist" my a$$. Good riddance.
