  • Summary: Previously announced as Combat Wings, Dogfight 1942 has been re-envisioned and recreated to feature more than 20 types of aircraft --from the fabled P-38 Lightning and Britain's Spitfire to the feared Messerschmitt 109 and Japanese Kate -- players are challenged with the same missions as real WWII pilots, ranging from bombing runs and dog fights to manning defensive positions such as a gunner on a bomber or anti-aircraft site. The base gameplay is solid, with smooth controls and the odd exciting mission. However the amount of content isn't large enough to keep you going for more than a couple of hours, though replaying certain missions with another player may extend that time.

Dogfight 1942 isn't a game that would have been on the radar, but it is a very pleasant surprise. It's not as good as some the the full retail efforts, neither is it your long awaited alternative to Crimson Skies. It is however a fun and entertaining game, that offers up plenty of thrills throughout your time with it. The lack of online options is a hard pill to swallow though and may keep some players away, but despite that, it is one that is well worth picking up.

Dogfight 1942 isn't offensively bad outside of the racial issue, it's just completely forgettable. It doesn't do anything that other games haven't already done better, so why would you waste your time?

This is a perfect game for the arcade enthusiast and fan of WWII dogfights - lots of fast action and a good learning curve. Worth the price if you like games about planes, IMHO. Co-op is awesome! Expand
  2. While this is a nice game, it is quite frankly overpriced. Coming out a week later with ten dollar DLC doesn't help, either. In the age of either AAA franchises or indie games the consumer has a lot more choice, and games like this as an initial free to play makes more sense. Expand
