Painkiller remake due October 31

"Totally uncut" Painkiller: Hell & Damnation hitting PC on Halloween; "toned down" version coming to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC January 22.

A "totally uncut" version of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation will arrive for PC on October 31, publisher Nordic Games has announced. "Toned down" versions of the Painkiller remake will arrive for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on January 22, 2013.

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation for PC will be available at launch in a $20 standard version and a $30 collector's edition. The premium bundle includes stickers, postcards, an artbook, ten cuts from the game's soundtrack, a making-of DVD, in-game tarot card, and an exclusive multiplayer skin.

The game will retail for $30 on PS3 and Xbox 360. A collector's edition for consoles was not announced.

Painkiller Hell & Damnation is a remake of People Can Fly's 2004 shooter Painkiller. The remake is in development at Polish studio The Farm 51 and runs on Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3.

Ha! I actually stumbled upon a video preview last night of the beta of this game on youtube (check TotalBiscuit's gameplay preview) and I have to say it looks pretty good. I played the original alot, its probably the only shooter I played on all dificulty settings and most of it was cuz of the awesome soundtrack.

I already have Painkiller Triple Dose but since this is one of my favorite FPS ever I think I might just get this again!

Loved the original on my old PC, unique weapons and very atmospheric, cant wait!

I hope they mean the original and not those less-than-mediocre sequels.

Guys don't get your panties in a bunch. Painkiller is not what I'd call a system hog but who knows what an updated version will bring. By "toned down" they could just mean the rather obvious tweaks to make the game run smoothly on consoles i.e., less enemies on screen, not so much blood and limbs flying all over the place.

You see what Ninja Gaiden 2 could do to the Xbox when things really got crazy on screen. Another sign that this gen is showing its age and we definitely need a new generation of consoles

maddog123 38 pts

I had no idea they were remaking painkiller. Best part about that game, there's a gun that shoots Shurikens and Lightning, and no I'm not kidding, it really does that, and it sticks enemies to walls too. oh, the flamethrower machine gun is cool too. Also, slowing down time, and shooting the shuriken gun at as many enemies as possible and then unfreezing time and watching the frozen shurikens come to life and totally decimate everyone is cool. Probably one of my favorite FPS of all time. It's just a damn fun game to play.

HKILLER88888 11 pts

maddog123yeah it was good until the Jawood took it and started making stupid fallow ups for it like resurrection and Over Dose!  even Battle out of hell wasn't as good as the first one!

As a gamer, I'm shocked to hear this... but then again, the love for PC gaming has dwindled over time.

killip 89 pts

Why do console owners get a cut version? Very disappointing.

Hurvl 230 pts

killip People sometimes accuse consoles of being kiddie machines, but I never took that seriously and certainly don't expect game companies to think that way. They think that console users can't handle the uncut stuff? That's ridiculous! Not only do a great number of people own both computers and consoles, but there is nothing that shows that console gamers are younger. More/equally immature as PC gamers perhaps, but that's beside the point.

Anyway, games like Painkiller are more suited for remakes than other games, because a lot of the experience comes from the graphics and effects. I bought Serious Sam: The Second Encounter HD, because I wanted to play that game with better effects/graphics and I really enjoy playing it.

killip 89 pts

 Hurvl

In this day and age, after all the games that have been out, THIS is what gets cut? It's madness.

It's the same game with a spit polish, and nicer to look at. A "CUT" version even being talked about should be laughable.

And the people that refer to consoles as the "kiddie" machine are PC gamer snobs.

I think Console is kiddie platform because no matter how good-looking, flashy, big-budget, expensive production value, popular, or mature console games,,

at the very core, roots, vein (whatever you called.) Console is still "Arcade" platform,, the core, the basic foundation is built around that mechanic,, it's simplified, easy, and pretty basic. Console games is like ferrari with toy engine in it.

and most modern games suffer because of that,, Assassin's Creed is expansive, huge, sand-box,, but stale after 30 minutes of gameplay,, Gears of War is explosive, over the top, but stale after 2nd series, Resident Evil is popular, sell million, you just need button mashing to finish the game. God of War is mature, it had bad-ass character, but it had one button win. etc, etc,,

Go try original PC Games, or some Multi-platform games that had PC roots in it,, FPSes, CRPG, ARPG, Strategy, Space Sim, etc,, Games like Mount & Blade: Warband, Total War, Company of Heroes, Dragon Age: Origins, Battlefield 3, Elder Scrolls, DayZ etc. go check anything that had PC roots in it.

a lot brilliant PC Games suffer from lousy presentation some not that popular compared to console counterpart, some even not good looking, but at the core, the basic foundation, most PC games is insane and most of their games had pretty advanced mechanic. you cannot judge about PC games if you didn't feel that for yourself,,

Console is for core Gamers,, yes I agree,, but PC is intended for advanced core audiences. in my earlier days I play a lot on Consoles, Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, Donkey Kong, etc,,, but then I play on PC Games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Fallout Tactic, Planescape Torment, Arcanum,, etc.

Now, I never go back playing Consoles.

and from my longtime experiences suffice to say, that Consoles is kiddie platform.

=)

Warlord_Irochi 267 pts

Ladiesman17  If being an "advanced core gamer" means developing a zealotry like yours I rather stay with my multy-system policy. If there is a real "Advanced core audience", it is people who does not give a damn about platforms; he only cares about games and not where they are running.  He does not want to miss a good exclusivity, he does not want to miss the chance of choosing which platform to play each game, and does not want to miss the free games in PSN, the downloadable exclusives in XBLA or de offers in Steam. He also does not give a damn about fanboy conversations that only want to ridiculize the "enemy" platform (Example: I don't like the Wii and I feel no need of going ranting in forums about it).So, next time you ask yourself "Why they don't release this on PC!" (You will, you can be certain of that).  Think about who plays more games and who has to suffer for his self-imposed limitation in his gaming catalogue.

If there is an "Advance core audience" I can tell you: with that mentality you are not part of it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm open minded person,,

I don't blame you to say that, ;)

IMO, Video Games should be like Music or Movies,, people should have the access to play their games on whatever platforms they wanted. it's never games fault (I agree with  you.).

But Consoles is popular platform,, with Arcade roots on it, and by being popular platform it mean majority of people will and  always flock to that platform,, and it made certain publishers / Investors / Developers put their time, creativity and money  more to that platform other than anything else.

fast forward to present era:

that kind of pattern that being implemented by Console platform for a long time form "legacy",, and in my opinion that "legacy" limiting another "legacy" that is not popular, and alienating certain creativity, idea, innovation. that being pulled, produced and honed since long time ago on the PC platform.

you right, I will "suffer limitation" or "lack of gaming catalogue",, but it's not really a problem for me,, since I choose substance over quantity of games that probably I will sell used because it's boring.

and like I've said I enjoy advanced mechanic on games rather than stripped one.

=)

Warlord_Irochi 267 pts

Ladiesman17  killip  Hurvl I keep seeing also that prejudice about "stripped" mechanics.  And in 99% of cases just a statement without a proper explanation about why people thinks that.Let's take the new X-com for example. Nobody thinks how freaking hard is to put the functionalities of a Keayboard and mouse over a controller that only has 8 properly usable buttons? Anyone who says that a game is "stripped" down for consoles because of that (or graphics, which is funny being Minecraft, WoW and indie games the ones with the bigest audiences ATM) has no appreciation for elegant design. That you are clicking fewer buttons does not mean the game is "Stripped down".But hey, suit yourself of course... I think you are wrong since the very moment you associated "Quality over quantity" with "only playing on PC". But I'm not going to try to convince you (troll or legitimate person, does not matter). My point.

$20?  Pre-Ordered.  Comes with the beta.  Good old fashioned circle strafe.  I love it.

Warlord_Irochi 267 pts

Now that I think a bit about it; Germany is being accepting more violent games lately.  Borderlands 2 came uncut, Dishonored came uncut, No more Heroes, Modern Warfare 3, Lollipop Chainsaw, Shadows of the damned, The Witcher 2... And they are saying that Germany gets no release because they did not get a rating? yeah, sure, nice try to play fake polemic to rise publicity. Some companies make me want to puke...

Warlord_Irochi 267 pts

Most stupid move ever... if they do this for places like Germany, by January next year everybody will have the game imported already.Good luck selling that pointless toned down version.

HailHellfire 201 pts

i hope more people pre-order it...

you can own Painkiller Black for free, if you pre order it...

it all depends on how many preorders happen on steam...

they have reward tiers for how many people preorder...

the last one is a free game...

they are close to half way, unlocked

$19 isnt bad for a new game...

what the hell do they mean by toned down version? it doesnt explain what that means

HailHellfire exactly.  it is mentioned in the title of this article, so why was it not elaborated on AT ALL?!

ya, i dont get that, it just makes you irritated when something that big is mentioned but isnt explained...

i cant complain too much...

i actually overlooked that they are having the unrated version on PC....

ill be buying that version instead...

but that isn't really all that fair to console players...

lol!

that would make sense...

it probably means that he shoots bunnies from his gun & demons bleed green confetti....

GamerOuTLaWz 514 pts

HailHellfire   will prbably have less gore, particles flying around and effects so the shitty outdated consoles dont freak and die to a red ring of death like what happened to the shitbox I bought back then when dark souls came out. never got to finish the game cause my frame rate dropped to 0 and froze my console after using flame strike on a giant demon and then my console was dead with a red ring of death. seriously these shitty outdated garbage ass consoles are really a disgrace to gaming and those who still believe theyre great or better than PCs LOL are as spoiled as their gaming rig.

Warlord_Irochi 267 pts

GamerOuTLaWz   Inmature zealots like you whose only argument are nasty words and insults are the only true disgrace to gaming.Oh, sorry, let me translate it for you:lolwut,  U mad bro?, gtfo back to your basement, l2p consoles, I win lol, kkthanksbye.

Oh hey, a multiplayer skin for a multiplayer component that no one will play.  There's not much of a market for non-realistic shooters in multiplayer anymore... and by that I mean games in the style of Quake and Unreal Tournament.  I think it's unfortunate, as there's nothing that realistic shooters can offer that even resembles the visceral thrill of high-speed twitch killing in multiplayer.

Anyway, am I the only one that's sitting there going "Enough with Painkiller already!"?  Don't get me wrong, I loved the first one, but it didn't have the replayability that games like Quake and Doom have for me, and Painkiller keeps rearing its head with sequels that most people generally couldn't care any less about.  It's almost like those crappy Army Men games from years gone by.  The first one or two were novel but it turned into this overblown franchise that nobody cared about.

HailHellfire 201 pts

 jinzo9988

i actually dont mind Painkiller...

im all for a remake...

i havent had a computer for sometime now & just got one recently so its nice to have a remake of a game that i have not had the chance to play...

i would love a remake or an updated version of the 1st quake....

cause thats how long its been since ive played computer games...

the 1st one was my favorite...

it would be awesome if they had a new Quake game that brought back that same awesome soundtrack by NIN & that same dark feeling throughout the game....

id also love a new Unreal Tournament game....

the only thing you see now is COD...

i dig dark horror shooters, or sci-fi type shooters...

im not really into the whole real war experience...

jinzo9988 1 : Painkiller HD will have a co-op mode so an extra player skin is not a bad bonus. 2 : I doubt anyone actully considers the expansions which came out for Painkiller 1 to be actual Painkiller games, they were made by compleatly diffrent studios who puted no effort into their games at all, this however has the honour of being called a Painkiller game, a complete remake of the original with a few new guns, enemy types and levels + a PVE co-op mode, i'm all up for that

GamerOuTLaWz 514 pts

jinzo9988  army men..woah that game was awesome

F**k the tone down version. MS and Sony always want to get more mature gamers, so give us our mature games, okay? Thanks!

I hate not getting the same content, they should just have an option in the menu to play the "toned down" version if they wish. Make us all happy for once.

immortality20 253 pts

But I am happy they're not doing the terrible Angry Birds route and trying to charge too much money. $30 is fine for something like this, it's for a very limited audience anyways, so just release $30 for uncensored!

HailHellfire 201 pts

 immortality20

its actually $19

its only $29 if you want the extra stuff...

which is soundtrack, virtual goods...

unless they are making it $29 for console...

its only $19 for the regular, non-collectors edition...
