FIFA 13 holds off Dishonored on UK chart, Fable: The Journey lands at 37
FIFA still holds off all newcomers, including Dishonored, Pokemon and XCOM; Fable: The Journey scrapes into the top 40 at number 37.
There's no stopping FIFA 13 on the UK all-formats games charts, which held onto the number one position for a third week running. The game dropped 63 per cent in sales compared to last week, but that was enough to hold off four other new entries in the top 10. Dishonored landed at number two, Pokemon Black Version 2 went in at three, Pokemon White Version 2 managed five, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown came in at seven.
Despite FIFA 13's dominance, publisher Bethesda managed to score the UK's biggest new intellectual property launch of the year so far with Dishonored, which outsold the previous title-holder Sleeping Dogs in its first week. Nintendo's two new Pokemon games also performed well, although Chart-Track notes that even if the sales of both games were combined, Dishonored would have still been at number two.
Last week's number two, Resident Evil 6, fell 78 per cent in sales on its second week, meaning it's now at number four. Conversely, Just Dance 4 actually managed to increase sales by 36 per cent on its second week, but the amount of competition means it also drops two places from number four to number six.
Further down the chart, WRC 3: FIA World Rally Championship arrived at number 27, while Microsoft's Kinect-only title Fable: The Journey just made it into the top 40 at number 37.
Is Fifa 13 worth buying over 12?
CaesarIIII ImBack558855 bongsyas_23 no UK is in ASIA lol...!
jh3r4ldsk13 CaesarIIII ImBack558855 bongsyas_23

good to hear dishonored comes at second place, great game! and if they do well enough, a second part is very likely. :D yee!
EA have nothing to worry about with all these drones paying full price for DLC.
BladeStrike1234 We are not drones, we just like the game. Deal with it, or find a cozy little dark corner so you can cry in fetal position.

Just a piece of important news that some people may want to know about.
I don't understand it! How much could the previous year's title differ, so much so that it would be worth purchasing the lastest in the franchise?
Without rendering my previous point moot; in general, I think sports games appeal more to the casual gamer. Just how large this section of the [casual] gaming community is - that are capable of keeping the sports franchises in such a 'fruitful' and effective position over titles that are wholly new (and fairly original) - would be interesting to know.
Devils-DIVISION
sports gamers casual ? you do realize they are the most complicated of all games as far as control and saying they buy the new game every year its released is a contradiction to casual gamer and why even post about sports games if you dont play them and know nothing about them
checkrazor1976 I'm sorry, but are you joking? None of what you said was accurate in the least.
No. Sports games are not complicated with regard to control. And what sports games do you specifically find 'complicated' to control? Also what aspect of control is so complicated for you? If by control you mean: using one analog stick to move a character forward and one button to sprint; that is until you need to either pass, or shoot or a special combination of the two, or an alternate/special function of the one (give or take a button depending on the sport), then I have to ask, how many finger do you have on each hand?
Sports games are appealing to a wide audience and a diverse age group - my 5 year-old nephew plays sports games, but struggles with FPS's because it does not require him to move a character with one thumb and adjust the camera axis with the other. Sports games are comprised of a three layered cake: animation, player interaction, and strategy. Sports games are by definition limited to ITS REPRESENTED SPORT. You do nothing outside its main theme, unlike multi-themed games.
Now since when does waiting a 'whole' F****** year for a game contradict the term 'casual gaming'? Do you even know what/who a casual gamer is? Because even if that person bought a hundred games this year, it would mean NOTHING if they didn't play them a set number of hours/days per week; if they didn't find specific genres interesting (not broad); if they didn't play the game for achievement/trophy hunting and/or rewards (not solely for entertanment); if they weren't a gamer for games sake (not influenced by their social circles), etc., etc.
Lastly, don't tell me what to have an opinion on.
Devils-DIVISION checkrazor1976 You need to try FIFA 13. I mean you need to be able to use all the fraking buttons on the control in order to be competitive. It is fairly complicated for some people.
Devils-DIVISION checkrazor1976 why the fuck did u get emotional about? somebody fucked your ass?
02050muh You're trying way too hard to be funny dude. Grow up.
Luizao2779 True I haven't played FIFA 13, but I don't intend to either. I haven't played FIFA since FIFA 12, and before that FIFA: World Cup 98, not much to 'em I'm afraid. But I probably will pick one up for the next gen consoles (it will feel less like a DLC). I was just using FIFA as an example in my prev. post.
I do follow football (and it's the only game I watch and follow), club and national - but no one should survive without being insulted for calling sport sims the 'most' complicated. BHA!
Devils-DIVISION the [casual] gaming community is bigger than the (regular) one, lots of people I know buy consoles just for playing on weekends with friends, just a few of my friends are real gammers. Besides who cares wich game sells more, real gammers know wich games are the best.
suko1983 Exactly. Some of my mates fit that description perfectly too. It really didn't matter which game's sell more, I was more interested in exactly what element of the gaming community purchases these sports sims every year. But, there are always those who would like to make out what they love to be more than what it really is (like Mr. 'Complexity' up there^).
And you're right, the games that are going to be innovative and wholly original are never going to be sports sims. It is what is.
Devils-DIVISION you not alone dude i think you speak for a whole lotta gamers....
Devils-DIVISION Of course soccer games are casual, you said it right! But not more "kill time casual" then watch the whole thing on TV.
franzito You mean watching someone play a soccer game? XD
Just don't let checkrazor1976 hear you! Because watching soccer on TV is one of the most complicated things to watch.
FIFA will almost always be on top of the charts in the UK as well as a lot of other European and South American countries. Just wait for the holiday rush to end and then FIFA will be back on top. Don't get me wrong it is the only sports game I enjoy. Although I kind of want to try the Rugby equivalent.
tightwad34
We football fans are kind of crazy anyway. We purchase our favorite team jersey every year, or go to several games during a season, why?
Because we LOVE the sport. i can watch about 7 football games every weekend just because I love it, and I know that there are other people that do the same.
Football lovers, have football for breakfast, lunch and dinner and don't get bored.
The saddest and most boring time of the year is between July and August because almost all the leagues in the world have stopped.
So I don't find it weird that a football game will sell well every year. Football is the most popular sport in the world after all.
Luizao2779
I never said I didn't like soccer, sorry I am from the U.S. so I call it soccer. Anyway I can see why it is so popular, I am just not a die hard fan. It will never even come close to American football over here.
I have no desire to play Fable The Journey, but it's inclusion on the list at such a low ranking is extremely deceiving. As of Today the game only been out six days, so even if the list was finalized yesterday Fable only had five days worth of sales compared to the other games that have had 30 days of sales. We won't know until next month's list comes out, and even that will be unfair because you need to compare Fable sales to another Kinnect game due to that installation base being much smaller than people who own an Xbox 360.
trigunfan1 This is a weekly list.
it's surprising RE6 is even at the top 5, that game was horrible
bongsyas_23 because Europeans has a different test for games..
ImBack558855 bongsyas_23
So now the UK is Europe ?... really mate.. how old are you ? 10 ?
CaesarIIII last i knew the UK was part of Europe, but then again i'm Italian so what do i know, mate... ?
CaesarIIII ImBack558855 bongsyas_23 what? UK is in Africa continent? I thought Russia was part of China
Serves Lionhead right. If they stopped trying to cram Peter Molyneux's delusions down our throats and just supplied their market what they demand - a game in line in the same time period or prior to Fable TLC with updated graphics, controls, weapons, magic. If you make it, we will buy it. Improve what already works and save your shitty ideas like "unconditional love" for The SIMS.
Sigh its like Madden in the states. Its the same game. Its a sports game. But for some reason it always sells. Next year they will release the same game with a different year on it and it will sell. Dont get me wrong I like sports and love Football, ie Soccer, doesnt mean I want to play a video game of it.
So disappointing to see there are a bunch of idiots out there with their cash ready in hands to throw away for the same football simulator that comes out every year with a re-skin for the same price as every other game.
Fifa and many other games should cost only $20 or less.
max-hit agreed, and it wouldn't hurt sales as much, due to the amount that sells, sure they'll be off some 15-20% in sells, but the amount sold should compensate for that lost.
ManU sucks, go Liverpool.... Grabs popcorn.
Volgin it's all about the two best teams in the world: Barca and RM
Why... oh Why!! is gamespot so obsess with FIFA 13 and the UK market.. so yes, a PG football game is doing very well in the market were it suppose to do well... I can't see how is that connected to other games that have nothing to do with football.
CaesarIIII Its just a news report for gods sake, read into to it what you will. Their job is to report on news.
CaesarIIII Gamespot "UK" at the top of the page, makes sense to talk about the UK market doesn't it?
Kentation CaesarIIII
I have no problem with FIFA 13 been number 1 in the UK... good for them... but I do have a problem with every game been linked to this news... RE6 and now Dishonored ....You explain to me why Dishonored been 2nd to FIFA 13 is so important ?
@CaesarIIII @Kentation Because its a news article about the countries top 10 games? Talking about the positions of new releases and what kept them off the top spot is kind of what they have to mention ....
Kentation
PS. Gamespot UK is An international team of journalist from the worldwide. Just because it says UK in the name and is base in the UK, doesn't means that only people from the UK works in the company, or only people from the UK reads the NEWS.
CaesarIIII because Europeans don't give a flying fuc* about Dishonored.. WTF DUDE..
CaesarIIII Kentationyou sir are an idiot
CaesarIIII It's rather amazing the number of people like yourself who'll reply to news articles saying "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS NEWS ARTICLE!"
Just think about it for a second. Just think about what you've done and slap yourlsef in the face.
-Jonce- CaesarIIII
you sir are a genius
checkrazor1976 -Jonce- CaesarIIII
Ohhh C'mon!! so I have an opinion about a piece of news that I don't agree with.. and that makes me an idiot?..
Read bellow were it says * Post Comment as*..
Is a bit like *monkey says, monkey does* with you guys..
Guy wrote a piece of news that I don't fully agree with and commented about it... we call this * The Freedom Of Expression *
I guess this shows what type of people plays football games and why.
Go a head and carry on spending money for exactly the same game every year.... have fun.
No I'm off... tired of wasting my time with Pub regulars and football hooligans.
Dishonored is a new IP and it doesn't appeal to the mass market like many other games on that list and it still managed to be the 2nd ... I'm happy and good job marketing the game bethesda , hopefuly this will convince other publishers to take risk..... looking forward to arkane studios next game :)
@evil-zodiark It's a good game but what helped its sales was the Bethesda name a lot of people think they made it
