He's not a bad guy, but on occasion, he is a bad racer. The video game villain-turned-hero in Pixar's next film joins the lineup of SEGA's Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

We've got one of the year's bigger games out this week (literally, Assassin's Creed III can only appropriately be called "sprawling") while Criterion makes another go at open world racing games. Plus: puzzles! Plus (also): dinosaurs! You East Coast folks stay safe (you know, on the offhand chance you're reading this right now).

The Earth Defense Force series has become an unlikely franchise since the first one launched in Japan back in '03. But from what I've heard over the years, these cheapie, alien-hunting shooters are quick, fun little games from developer Sandlot.

Now D3 is announcing that the latest entry will be making its handheld debut Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable some time this winter with four-player competitive and co-op multiplayer for the handheld, new gear, and missions.

Just because Vita sales are in a bit of a slump, doesn't mean that there isn't anything to play on the platform. If you look closely enough the Vita has fostered some amazing, hidden gems since it was released eight months ago. Sound Shapes, New Little King's Story, and most recently Retro City Rampage are some truly great games that have found a comfortable home on Sony's struggling platform. The latest game to add its name to the list of worthy titles is Dorkuro, an enchanting puzzle/platformer that offers a new take on trying to save the princess.

Retro City Rampage
Dear Old Video Games,

I love you.

Sincerely,
Brian Provinciano
V-Blank Entertainment Inc.

That pretty much sums up Retro City Rampage.

Retro City Rampage is an anomaly on multiple levels. It started off as a pet project of sole developer Brian Provinciano and was to be a "reinterpretation" (read: de-make) of Grand Theft Auto as a homebrew game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (yes, that NES). That is not what Retro City Rampage ended up being. In the end, it's a thoughtful, caring, love letter to games from days gone by. Ultimately it’s a mix of hundreds of different games and pop culture references mashed into one top-down festival of carnage for your PlayStation 3 and/or PlayStation Vita.

In a press release sent out this morning, SEGA announced that they would be holding off on releasing the PlayStation Vita version of the Jet Set Radio HD remake. Simply citing "necessary development optimizations," the release provided no additional details.

This is kind of a last minute update, since the Dreamcast HD remake was supposed to be out today in the U.S., but here's hoping that SEGA will have an updated release window son.

New Little King's Story

New Little King's Story isn't exactly "new." Konami has released an updated version of the Cing developed, Xseed Games published (in the U.S.) Wii game, Little King's Story, from 2009 for the PlayStation Vita. Frequently sited as one of the Wii's hidden gems, Little King's Story is routinely referenced as a solid game, that would have been enjoyable no matter what platform it was released on. New Little King's Story puts that theory to the test, squeezing down the assorted elements of its big screen counterpart, and packs them into one tight little Vita release.
