Little did we anticipate a Doctor Who-themed Tennant brouhaha when we ran our story earlier today about the actor returning to BBC America for The Spies of Warsaw. This pair of recent TV ads by Tennant for Virgin Media's TiVo service feature the actor cheekily referencing the character he's most known for -- and The Beeb is not happy!

There an obvious reference to a time travel machine in this ad, with Virgin founder Richard Branson going back in time and reappearing in a 70s leisure suit: Read More...

As much as we love Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, there’s one major ingredient the last few seasons of Doctor Who have been missing: David Tennant. Well, the wait is over, as BBC America is bringing Tennant back to the tube with a brand new mini-series: ‘The Spies of Warsaw.’

There’s a number of exciting bits to this piece of news, not least of which is that the miniseries is an original co production by BBC America for their Dramaville block of programming… Which means the mini will premiere in the USA first, NOT in the UK like a BBC production would. Looks like the biscuit is on the other foot now, doesn’t it Brits? Read More...

Welcome to our time-traveling, space-warping round up of all the news we could find about the world’s most popular Timelord, Doctor Who. And there’s a ton of news to get through because, remember: this article is bigger on the inside.

ITEM! Doctor Who Nabs Hugo Noms
As we reported earlier this week, Doctor Who dominated the "Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form" category of the Hugo Awards, snagging three out of the five nominations. The episodes in question were, "The Doctor's Wife," "The Girl Who Waited," and "A Good Man Goes To War," clearly indicating that future Who writers should indicate whether there's a woman or a man in the episode in the title, if they want to get a Hugo Nom. The nominees for The Hugo Awards  -- essentially the Oscars or Grammys of the sci-fi world -- were announced this Saturday. Noms were given to Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and, well, Martin Scorsese's Hugo. The biggest surprise in the bunch? A nod to the Community episode "Remedial Chaos Theory" for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form. Read More...

ITEM! The Daleks Return, And We Have Proof
Yup, your eyes do not deceive you. As teased a few weeks ago, the Daleks are returning to Doctor Who. And as to what iteration we can expect, according to Moffat, the answer is: "All of them." Whether that means they're all teaming up, or Amy and The Doctor travel back through the history of the villainous tin cans, we can't say for sure. Still, both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan chose their favorite - the 1960's Daleks - and took the above picture from the set. We can't wait. Read More...

ITEM! New Companion, Season 7 Trailer, And Way More!
As promised, this past weekend brought a slew of news about the upcoming season of Doctor Who, including our first look at the new Companion, and the Season Seven Trailer. You can check out more about both of those stories at the respective links, but the bullet-points are: first two episodes are set in the Old West, and then the arctic, with The Doctor going up against a cyborg cowboy, and then the Daleks. The new companion won't show up until Christmas, but before then Amy and Rory will say goodbye, and not everyone is making it out alive. Yipes! Read More...

Well, we promised there'd be big news coming out of this past weekend's Official Doctor Who Convention in Cardiff, and we didn't lie: the first official trailer for Doctor Who Season Seven, which premiered at the con, is now online!

Here it is, courtesy of BBC America, and check back after the clip for our analysis:

So what did we get here? Some great quips from Amy and The Doctor, of course, and plenty of non-stop action. But there are a few key points to take away:

- It's been a while since Amy and The Doctor have seen each other.

- Most of the trailer is taken up with footage from the Season Premiere, which is set in the Old West (sort of), and features a villainous Cyborg Cowboy, or as we've dubbed him, Cowbyborg.

- You probably didn't miss this, but yup, that was a Dalek eye peeking out of the snow. The tin cans have been notoriously missing for the past season, but Head Writer Steven Moffat has promised they'll be showing up... Now we know that we can expect some sort of Dalek/Doctor chase on skis. Okay, maybe not. But hopefully.

- No tease here of either the Weeping Angels in episode five, Amy and Rory's departure, or the new companion (as she hasn't filmed anything yet). Also, surprisingly, no River Song. But we expect she'll pop her head in sooner rather than later.

We'll have more about this, and the wrap-up from Doctor Who Con in our "What's New With Doctor Who" column tomorrow, so stay tuned!

As just revealed on the official BBC America Tumblr, here's your first look at Doctor Who's new companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman:

Sweaters! The TARDIS! No other news whatsoever! At this point, we still have no idea what Coleman's character's name is, how she meets the Doctor, or whether she's even human. We do know she'll show up for the first time in this year's Christmas episode, right after current companions Amy and Rory Pond leave the TARDIS in the fifth episode. We also know that she shares Amy's terrible choice in sweaters, but that may just be the costuming department. Read More...

Well, we knew the news was coming sooner or later, but as of this morning, it’s official: UK actress Jenna-Louise Coleman has snagged the role of The Doctor’s Companion in the fiftieth anniversary season of Doctor Who. For those of you not totally familiar with Doctor Who, the immortal Timelord always travels through time and space with a Companion – someone, usually a human (though not always) who provides a counterpoint and perspective on the crazy things and places encountered by the Doctor in his travels. ITEM! Doctor Who Goes To Westworld
Mild spoilers here, but it looks like The Doctor will be battling some sort of Cowboy Cyborg, or Cowbyborg if you will, in the upcoming season. Plenty more pictures of people hanging out in the old west at this link.

ITEM! Doctor Who Con Is This Weekend
At this point, we're going to have to do a fair bit of time traveling to snag tickets for the first official Doctor Who Convention in Cardiff... But suffice to say, there's probably going to be a ton of news coming out about the upcoming season - and perhaps even the fiftieth anniversary in 2013 - over the weekend. Geronimo!

FORCED! Doctor Who Uses A Lightsaber
This weekend, while watching the season finale of The Walking Dead, I turned to my wife and said, "The best possible way this could end is if, in the last minute, someone is screaming, "We need a doctor!" and Doctor Who enters and says, "Maybe I can help." We then posited that the only thing that would make that better is if Facebook and Twitter spontaneously shut down, so no one could talk to their friends about this plot twist online. Point being, everything - even Star Wars - is better with The Doctor.

NESTED! BBC America Explores The World of Who-craft
We've seen a few of the items BBC America posted for their Doctor Who crafty round-up, but these nesting dolls, which start with the TARDIS, and include all eleven doctors in reverse chronological order (time travel!) are pretty adorable.

MARRIED! TARDIS Ring Makes Us Want To Say Yes, A Thousand Times Yes
We have no words, other than, "Yes." Also, here's the description of how this happened, and what it is from the creator's website: "I was bored and made this. Its a Police Box based ring with a tension set 1CT Princess Cut center stone. The three round stones is the Police Box sign, the two sets of four baguettes symbolize the windows, and a small princess cut below that to symbolize the instructions found on the front of the Police Box." We got bored earlier, and ate two sandwiches.

BRITTA'D! Inspector Spacetime's Final Coffin Nail Gets Nailed
For those of you who haven't been religiously following this story, there was a parody of Doctor Who on NBC's Community called Inspector Spacetime. The actor who played the Inspector decided to make a web-series of it, without Sony or NBC's permission. That got scuttled pretty quickly. Now, Community creator Dan Harmon has come out, and kind of said he doesn't want to get involved. That doesn't mean the end of Spacetime, though... It was a major plot-point on Community just last episode.

UN-BRITTA'D! Awesome Inspector T-Shirt!
...Speaking of unlicensed, here's a faboo Inspector Spacetime T-shirt from Etsy user IntarsiaDesign. Now all we need is a T-shirt with a picture of The Master that says "The Darkest Timeline," and our lives will be complete.

HELLO, SEXY! Geeky Doctor Who Purses
Etsy user Cat Penfold has a ton of fabulous Timelord themed purses (and other items) in her shop, including the sweet little Cybermen one you see above. Check out her shop for plenty more, including a delightful TARDIS purse that has a hidden, "Hello, Sexy!" inside.

ITEM! Doctor Who Con Still Coming, Say Doctor Who
In case you weren't already on the plane to Cardiff, or desperately and secretly cursing your bosses at certain Geek themed websites for not frivolously spending money to buy you a ticket to Cardiff, the Official Doctor Who Convention is rapidly approaching - and we're guessing, with it a slew of news on not just the upcoming season of Doctor Who, but also next year's fiftieth anniversary. And sure we'll get all the info about it here in the States, but Matt Smith likes to be mean, so he's continued promoting it and telling us how cool it's going to be. Boo, Smith! Boo! Here's the video: Read More...

ITEM! Matt Smith, You Are Top Gear
Top Gear, which is a show where cogs compete to determine who is the best at being a gear, and win $125,000 presented by the Nut & Bolt line of products, will feature the Eleventh Doctor himself, Matt Smith, in an upcoming episode! We always thought he was more of a pulley, but I guess we were way off on that. Seriously, though, if he doesn't shout "Geronimo!" while racing in a car, everything we know about the world is wrong. We should probably just pack our cog teeth and go. Read More...

According to the always reliable British press, Benedict Cumberbatch, the current star and title character in BBC’s hit "Sherlock" is “a lock” to play The Master in upcoming episodes of "Doctor Who." This would, according to reports, coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the show in 2013.

So, a little bit of background, for those of you who have no idea what we’re talking about:

- The Master is the opposite of The Doctor, a Timelord, who uses his abilities to try and control time and space, rather than exploring it and being all twee and whatnot.

- He was last played by John Simms during the David Tennant years, and was pretty unequivocally killed and obliterated out of existence forever. Granted, this was after he was resurrected – twice – and we’re also talking about a show based in time travel, so grain of salt and all. Read More...

Underground Toys may not have had to travel through time and space to bring Doctor Who to Toy Fair 2012, but they did pack way more toys, figures, and cool accessories on the inside of the booth than it might have seemed on the outside. To find out more, we chatted with Robyn Morgan, the Licensing Director of Underground Toys, and discovered that she’s just as excited about their plush toys as she is about their rubbish bins:

Toy Fair 2012: Underground Toys Dishes on The Doctor

That wasn’t the only cool little item we discovered at Toy Fair, though... From a squeezable Adipose, to - spoilers, sweetie - a baby River Song in an impossible astronaut action figure, Underground has all your Timelord needs covered. And not just the Eleventh Doctor, either, there’s plenty of classic toys, from Tom Baker, to David Tennant, and more: Read More...

ITEM! Gallifrey 23 Welcomes 3000 Who Fans
Turns out, there's a lot of Doctor Who fans! Or at least, enough to keep an unofficial con going, as well as the official one that's coming up in a few short months. Gallifrey One's "Network 23" sounds like it was a blast, with panels, games, and more. You can read a full report from an attendee, and check out a little more news from the Con below...
