I'll be the first to admit that the 1980's animated "He-Man & the Masters of the Universe" veered into the realm of camp craziness more often than not and the vintage toy line upped the ante at every turn! As more and more action figures were released and sold, the need for variations on He-man and Skeletor continued to grow and one fateful day Dragon Blaster Skeletor was born unto this Earth in a fusing of water-spraying plastic unlike anything that came before! His bright colors and self-injurious concept (Having a dragon chained to your back is just simply a bad idea!) quickly gained favor with my young heart and he was immediately my go-to Skeletor during my childhood years. Now, Mattel has released an updated version in their Matty Collector-exclusive Masters of the Universe Classics line and I've finally found the time to properly review the one they sent. Join me as I take a closer look at Dragon Blaster Skeletor: Evil Leader & His Dreadful Dragon with Paralyzing Spray!

The Mattel booth is once again stocked with piles of plastic awesome at New York Comic Con 2012, and more than a few glass shelves have been taken over by Batman-- plus a few of his allies and members of his rogues gallery. The variant suit-heavy Batman line is looking to continue strong with additions like Bane, the Joker (who has been hitting the gym), and a number of Batman figures with all manner of weapons attached. The Batman Unlimited line was also present for the first time since their announcement with the highlight for me being the "The Dark Knight Returns" version of Bruce that is compatible with Mattel's other collector-oriented line, Masters of the Universe Classics. You wanna see all of these various vigilantes and master criminals at NYCC 2012? Then read on!

Last weekend, a huge box was sitting patiently outside my front door as I arrived home. The markings on the outside labeled it clearly as coming from Mattel, but instead of the usual Masters of the Universe Classics or Dark Knight Rises fare, it was from a brand I don't normally cover here on Geek: Hot Wheels! Inside wasn't the track set or small die cast cars I was expecting, not by a long shot. Instead, staring out at me, and my incredibly excited 4 year-old son, was the new Terrain Twister! Naturally, I charged up the included battery for a few hours and we made our way out into the wilds to put this thing to the test! Come along as I get muddy and take a closer look at the Hot Wheels' R/C Terrain Twister!

The Mattel panel during Power-Con/ThunderCon 2012 proved to reveal more than just he mind-blowingly awesome announcement of Castle Grayskull. In fact, the build up to to that news was ramped up with the reveal of 3 more figures to hit the Masters of the Universe Classics Club Eternia subscription in 2013: Snake Face, Octavia, and Karatii! Each of the 3 figures come from different aspects of the MotU-verse, including the less-than-loved New Adventures Of He-Man animated series. Read on for a closer look at the 3 figures as they were displayed at Power-Con!

During Power-Con/ThunderCon 2012, Mattel's annual panel proved to reveal one of the biggest announcements for the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line since its inception: Castle Grayskull! That's right He-Fans, a huge playset is the focus of, what was dubbed in their slideshow presentation, "The Castle Grayskull Experiment". He-Man's home away from home has been requested incessantly for years, so the pop from the crowd in attendance was both predictable AND practically deafening-- and rightfully so! However, as Scott Neitlich (Mattel's Brand Manager for MOTUC) began to explain, getting the massive Castle Grayskull as a centerpiece for the collection will totally depend on the fans themselves.

After a long drought, Mattel's latest wave of DC Comics-based figures are hitting retail shelves-- and both Batman and Superman are sporting their looks from the New 52! Is that worth the exclamation point? Well, that depends on the fan; but these costumes seem to be sticking around so it's nice to get figures of these particular looks so quickly. Yeah, we know the DC reboot has been around for a year now, but that's also about how long it takes to produce an action figure from start to finish. Anyway, we were able to acquire the DC Universe Classics All-Star Superman figure at our local comic shop, and we're inviting you to join us as we take a closer look at this particular Kal-El, to judge if he's a worthy successor to the previously released (a gazillion different times) Supes we've had in the DCUC line.

It's the end of world as we know it.

Well, that might not necessarily be true, but you wouldn't know it by the outcry of despair flowing from Twitter recently with the announcement that 2013's Club Eternia subscription, for Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics toy line, might not have enough support to continue. What would this mean to all you casual readers? Absolutely nothing. However, for toy fans it harkens the possible end of regularly released collector-based He-Man figures, and the incredibly sculpted stylings of the Four Horsemen on the property. Granted, the Horsemen are currently hard at work on the upcoming DC Comics-based figures, but it's just not the same! So, how can you help to save Masters of the Universe Classics from falling to the evil forces of Cancellation? Read on, Heroic Warriors for all the info straight from Scott Neitlich, a.k.a. Toy Guru, the MOTUC brand manager!

Friday the 13th at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International saw a historic announcement from Mattel during their annual Mattypalooza panel. On their collector-based Matty Collector website, Mattel will be offering figures based on DC Comics legendary Watchmen comics. While there has been action figures from the Watchmen film, there has never before been any kind of tie-in with the original comic by creators Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The Four Horsemen (DC Universe Classics, Masters of the Universe Classics, Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters) have been tasked with sculpting the six main characters from the book, and have done a tremendous job of bringing the look of the original artwork into three dimensions while still keeping them compatible with the DC Universe 6" line. He-Man fans take note: Geoff Johns has created a new character for the Masters of the Universe pantheon! I'm sure your first question is: will there be an action figure? And your second: who the heck is he?!

The latter question first: he's called Sir Laser Lot, and he will be appearing in writer Johns' Masters of the Universe digital comic. Answer to the first question: yes, there is a figure, debuting at San Diego Comic Con (read all about it here!). And Johns will, according to this article on DC's Source blog, "buy like a 100 of them":

"I’ve been a huge fan of He-Man and Masters of the Universe since I was a kid, so it’s cool to write a story for this new series — not to mention teaming up with Howard Porter and John Livesay, my old FLASH partners in crime,” stated Geoff Johns. “And to create an all-new character that will become an action figure – Sir Laser Lot — it’s beyond fun." Toy Fair 2012: Mattel's Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters Figures

The day when we can go to the theater and have "The Dark Knight Rises" beamed into our eyeholes is steadily approaching, and now that seemingly never-ending amount of time can be filled with Mattel's latest DKR Movie Masters! Series 1 includes Batman, Bane, and Alfred-- cause somebody has to make the damn sandwiches! These figures are in the same scale as the previous Bat-centric Movie Masters and were done by Mattel's sculpting gods, The Four Horsemen! As you probably know, most of the Movie Masters figures borrow heavily from parts re-use, especially when it comes to guys in suits. Are these latest MM figures worthy of closing out Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy? Does the possibility of a working Bat Signal return a little hope to our geek-filled lives? Well, read on for a look at "The Dark Knight Rises" Movie Masters Series 1!

*To avoid confusion, photos that feature Alfred brandishing a pistol come from us snatching it from the plastic clutches of Gary Oldman-- the figure of Gary Oldman, that is. We would never take a gun from the real Gary Oldman for fear of brutal retaliation.

The characters in the WWE are able to take their behaviors to an extreme level that you'd never get away with in normal society. For instance, as of a few months ago Cody Rhodes (son of WWE Hall of Famer "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes) would come to the ring and force people he deemed too hideous to don paper bags over their heads! We tried this and, believe it or not, people are not nearly as cool about it as they are on RAW. A couple of gut-punches later and we limped away, giving up on trying to live like a Superstar forever-- except for only sporting underwear and boots, cause we've grown to love that part! Although Cody Rhodes has since moved on from his masked gimmick in favor of kicking people in the face and verbally abusing the Big Show, his latest action figure harkens back to last year when clear protective masks were all the rage. Join us as we review this grandson-of-a-plumber from Series 13 of Mattel's WWE Elite Collection!

Toy Fair 2012: Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics

Mattel's online-exclusive Masters of the Universe Classics action figure line has been running strong for a few years now. Since it began, the list of fan-demanded characters has been on the decline as month after month a different childhood favorite has been made available. Well folks, May is gonna be another one of those times as Stinkor: Evil Master of Odors brings his stink-infused plastic into your collection, but not without his own cloud of gloved-controversy. Oh, you hadn't heard? We'll explain it a little farther down. As for the stink itself, the same patchouli smell used for the vintage figure, and by fun-loving, bath-fearing hippies everywhere has been once again infused with his plastic.

The vintage Masters of the Universe line was littered with variant versions of He-man and Skeletor. Mattel knew that the main heroic warrior and his archenemy were their bread and butter with both kids and parents alike, so every couple of quarters there were new versions hitting the pegs. One of the more intricate figures (action feature-wise) was Thunder-Punch He-Man who utilized the, now frowned upon, cap-gun technology to add some oomph to his beatdowns! The action feature for T.P. (Toilet Paper?) He-Man was such an integral part of his sculpt that when it came time for his MotU release, The Four Horsemen had to get creative-- and they certainly did! Join us as we review Thunder Punch He-Man: Heroic Leader with a Power Punch!
