Assassin’s Creed 3 day-one update fixes 44 bugs, patch notes here

Assassin’s Creed 3 will launch with a day-one patch the first time you boot it up. The patch addresses 44 bugs within the game, all of which you can see below. Beware SPOILER FIXES at the bottom of our article.

OPM reports that the patch notes say it is “highly recommended”, and address the following issues:

Bug Fix

- Animus Synching tutorial, fixed an issue where the player could think he’s stuck in an infinite loading when getting to Boston after the end credits
- Fixed a bug where counter-killing with the bow does not always work
- NPCs spawned too far away could end up being of the wrong type
- Camera could remain stuck after the player being respawned
- Player could remain stuck after diving from a waterfall
- Player could remain stuck if he exits a slopped hay stack at a certain angle
- player would always get immediately detected when performing an unarmed stealth assassination in another guard’s back
- Under rare circumstances, the crowd would stop spawning
- Fixed an animation glitch when interrupting the reception from high profile jump
- Fixed various occurrences of missing sounds
- In some cases, the Animus Database sound ambiance was not stopped when exiting
- Various stats and leaderboards were not showing up properly
- Online shop could sometimes appear empty if fetching the data from Xbox Live is taking too long

Crash Fix

- Possible crash that could happen if the player blends in a crowd group where some NPCs haven’t spawned yet, and while blended performs a kill.
- Possible crash that could happen if the player triggered a loading while being in a covert escort formation with his brotherhood trainees
- Possble crash that could happen when calling a brotherhood trainee with the snipe ability

Naval Missions

- Possible crash if the player spams the swivel guns with the semi-automatic cheat enabled

Side Quest

- Brawler Challenges 3 – Task “Own every weapon available in the stores” would not complete when the player expects it to.
- Fort Monmouth and Fort Division – Quest objectives would fail too early without the fort resetting properly
- New York delivery mission – Game asked for a different item (deer heart) than what was showed to the player (venison)

SPOILER FIXES (Like, seriously)

- On the Homestead, fixed a bug where the player could remain stuck if he performs a corner pose on the left side of Norris’ cave’s entrance

@2
“games are never finished now”
Then don’t ship them! Of course its the publishers that I should tell this because like you, I HATE this trend.

Well at least they fixed them right? But I do agree that these publishers should give these developers more time to finish their product

You all don’t have a clue, this is just for keeping pirates at bay, if they releases the game before the release date as a leak it would be bugged as hell, only if you really bought the game it will be normal. So we can have a bugged pirate version of the game, at least for the consoles, with pc you have updated cracks so it’s no use

OMG!!.. another broken unfinished unplayable game on disc, with day one patch that will cost you 60 dollars.

YOU WANT MORE OF THIS SHIT??… THEN KEEP BUYING THEM!!… or be smart, vote with your wallet and dont buy. this is not acceptable at all if you ask me.

@5 Mike W

they fix them?? your game on disc is still broken without this patch. lets say they take away the patch one day… the game is not playable anymore.. so NO ITS NOT FIXED BEFORE THEY RELEASE A DISC WITH THE PATCHED GAME THAT WORK WHEN YOU PLAY THE GAME FROM THE DISC!…

@9 Then explain me why, at least on PS3, the first patch (version 1.01) is always free to the company and sony gives them the right and encourages them to release a day one patch, while with all the other patch the company has to pay for sony to give it to the people?

It’s a well know tactic to keeping games that leak weeks before launch from working properly.

@10 deathm00n

its a well know tactic by now that they dont have to finish a game by the date they have set. sony just have to give in to this, because they sell consoles and games sell the consoles. lets say if you wanna do some retro gaming in like 10 years from now. you dont have the the patch anymore and the game is unplayable… you can just look at the ps2 games people still graving and playing to this day. you can forget all about that, if this continue… think a bit longer than your nose tip next time… ITS YOU AS A CUSTOMER AND GAMER THAT ARE LOSING IN THE END. vote with your wallet dont buy broken unfinished games, and you will stop this laziness. why you want to buy unfinished product for top dollars in the first place, makes no sense at all.

@10 you are aware that… if you can “pirate” games you can MOSTLIKELY also “pirate” patches? Jus sayin.

Say about the Wii what you want, but I played games like Mario Galaxy, running in no Bugs and it never got Patched.
Of Course, the Wii can’t patch, but I start to believe thats a good Thing…

@10 “It’s a well know tactic to keeping games that leak weeks before launch from working properly.”

*hands you a tinfoil hat*

The reality of this is this… the chances of people not having access to the day one patch is incredibly small, especially nowadays with practically everyone and their mother (and *their* mother) having access to the internet. Many of these kinda of problems don’t even appear in testing, or not until very late in the process.

This has nothing to do with “laziness”. Have you *seen* the size and scope of these games? It took *hundreds* of people to get this game out on time. This is not a ten-man SNES game. If it had been delayed, people would have just complained Even more.

Singular individuals on the Internet defining the meaning of the word “laziness” is both hilarious and ironically hypocritical.

@13 The Wii can patch, but the patches have to be included in the software update of the console itself, or through a channel update.

Skyward Sword launched with a very serious game breaking bug, that was all to easy to activate, where you couldn’t continue on in the game at all simply by talking to a character in the wrong way and completing a bunch of quests in a certain order.

And this is from Nintendo, who tend to have a very strict “We won’t release it until it’s done, no matter how many delays” policy.

well…in ten years when the patch servers are offline, I will be unable to play the game. well done.

I think it is sad no matter how you look at it. If it doesn’t work, don’t ship it. I think a game that works out of the box is a major obligation of any publisher. Obviously all of us here have internet, but I know a lot of gamers that don’t.

Todays practice of get it out the door, fix it later is all too common and imo just plan sad.

@15 In ten years…

– These games will be selling for a fiver online on digital stores
- Will have “4K Super Special Edition” remakes on PS5 and Xbox 1440
– Will be bite-sized amounts of data on our 1TB flash drives / SD cards
– Patches will be easily downloadable from any vaguely (il)legal download site

You can patch games straight from an SD card / flash drive, so nobody has any excuse not to be able to patch them. And that’s assuming your hardware even still works in 10 years.

@18

But I think it’s the publishers that are causing the issue (if I’m not mistaken) they’re pressuring the developers to send the product out as soon as possible, regardless if it’s done or not.

@17 Ireland Michael

you miss the point here… if the game is done properly so it works you dont have to buy it again. yeah you can buy the remake but it gives you an option. with unfinished games you get no option, and what if this game dont get a remake, what then?.. your can never play it again.

have you tried to play a 10 year old pc games today?.. have you tried look for a patch for a 10 year old game?. i bet you haven’t at all… or you would have mention it… on a fixed hw as the ps2 with a game that is finished, its just plug and play, and that is what people go for. they go not looking for a pentium200, voodoo gfx card or soundblaster16 etc and hunt for patches on virus infested illegal sites…..

and by the way my atari2600 from 1980 works perfectly well to this day…

I think problem is in Microsoft and Sony who spend way to much time processing and all those certificates and what not.Even with patches.

@21 There were plenty of pre PS3 / 360 games on console with game breaking bugs.

I’ve patched dozens of PC games. There are tonnes of websites out there to help with the process, plenty of safe places to download patches from, and services like GOG.com have made the issue almost completely non-existent for a large number of old titles.

I have a cup-and-ball game from the last century which doesn’t need patching, still works perfectly, has never crashed and I know will still work in 10 years time.

It can’t render a virtual city full of active NPC’s though. It doesn’t give me hundreds of quests and almost limitless freedom in a huge virtual play area. My cup-and-ball doesn’t have a 5.1 digital soundtrack.

Some people expect the moon on a stick but give no thought to the logistics of how one moves said celestial body onto the stick, or indeed how the hell they expect to pick up the moonsicle.

It would be bloody heavy!

I have the PS3 Version I cannot get past the the wolves. The part where you find the mysterious woman. When you arrive at her camp you are attacked by 3 wolves. I dont know what button to use on my PS3 to kill them. I am stressed. I am not as good as most of you in this forum.
Can someone help me or give me directions on what buttons to use to kill them?

@29 The buttons *should* pop up on your screen when they’re attacking.
