Porn producers eyeing Google's Project Glass for POV films

Hey, you knew this was going to happen, right? The adage rings true: A tech product isn't really successful until the porn industry, erm, hops on it. And while Google's Project Glass -- that space-age monocle that shoots video as well as brings info to eyeball level -- won't be available publicly for a couple of years, the adult industry is already licking its chops over the, erm, practical value of Project Glass, particularly for point-of-view (aka POV) scenes.

Pink Visual's Quentin Boyer told PCMag that "a device that allows you to shoot high quality video in a truly hands-free fashion will make shooting POV porn that much easier." A spokesperson for MiKandi, which provides a sort of porn portal in the form of an Android app, told industry pub XBIZ "we're already dreaming up ways to use the glasses to get shots (sex-related and otherwise) that just aren't feasible using a traditional camera setup."

As for us? We're just hoping we don't end up seeing the point of view shots of the bottom of a Cheetos bag with all the nerds that'll be playing with this thing. Here's to the future.

People can say what they will about Apple and their closed ecosystem, but personally I thought it was great when they stood up and told people if they wanted to get porn they were going to have to get it from somewhere else.

To not sell out for what would have been a huge payday is something that you don't too often see these days.

Apple was smart enough to see they would lose more money than they made with porn. It was not an altruistic decision.

Its really hard to get good data on the Porn Industry, but the best analysis suggests its a $5bn to $10bn a year industry, not the $95bn number that the press likes to toss around.

Amazon alone is $30bn-$40bn /year.
Apple yearly revenue is 142.36bn, and of that 43.82bn is pure profit.

I just don't see a $10bn/yr industry making much difference in a $142bn/yr company's bottom line.

Honestly and truly...I'm not in the least bit surprised by this, I must say. Oh the possibilities with new technology - its for all to use to their liking! That's what you get with Google products and I'm guessing iGlasses in the future (I need to patent that name and some others ASAP for the better of us all on here).

Wasn't there a movie even older than that with a similar concept? I remember someone had spliced a tape into a loop so it would just play over and over and over again. I've been trying to remember the name of it, but am not getting it. But maybe it was Strange Days.

the thing is that POV porn sucks. The enjoyment in real sex comes more from just about every other sense EXCEPT vision, and looking at the opposite sex from afar is way more arousing than what you see in the act. making porn "more like real life" just makes it more obvious that you're watching tv, not getting laid, and i wish they would wake up to the fact and toss this pointless "genre" out the window
