Danny O'Dwyer goes for pole position in our video review of Codemaster's F1 2012.
There is something really wrong with this game. Not talking about the bugs. The graphics suck. Putting in replay mode(wich is awfull as well) the car doesnt seem to make part of the track. When you go out of track, the outside "ufo" camera stops and they force a cockpit view (wich you dont want) to hide the bad physics or bad graphics.
I feel im racing inside a cartoon. Better playing the old Atari's 1988 Hard Drivin. (so happy i have iracing)
thalescofield Thats much bad?! :S i think its beautiful as far i have seen the graphics, about the simulation i dont even talk about it. I can say for myself, that i am an experienced, almost 10 years of pure simulations driving and racing online championships, i can say this is long long way behind the reality. What is real is rFactor 2 or rFactor 1st game and the others. However for making a championship and playing with and against COM its really nice game... my opinion
Sounds like the whole aura of Formula 1 has been chucked out and in place they have thrown a whole bunch of stuff for the person who doesn't give two hoots about F1 (arcadey). I haven't played it so I cant judge this one too much, but I do have the past installments, which were close but no cigar - I don't think this one can even see the cigar! Just not sure the developers are going down the right track here.
An excellent review even though this game series has a new game every year.
Why did the 45 second Explore 9 commercial stream just find but the review bogged down within 5 seconds?
They got rid of those infuriating media interviews you had to endure every 5 minutes in F1 2011 :)
It's alright. The graphics and driving model seem awesome, but the modes and presentation are abysmal.
My perfect F1 game is when I start a season, pick a real driver and then start with the first practice session, continuing to realistic qualifying and from there to the race with warm up lap. Full length, scoreboards and then to the next race. Just 1 full season after which I start from clean slate (not like playing 2013 season is remotely realistic)
Champions, Season Challenges etc. are ok diversions, but when the game lacks the most basic mode I can't help but feel really dissapointed. Codemasters should go for the essence of F1, not trying to cater to people who have never seen a Formula car with completely ridiclous modes and streamlining everything to minimum. Rules lack depth, hot laps are terrible and the arbitary challenges are stupid.
Haha. Nearly all of the game play clips cut just before the player crashes into another car or going off the track.
JakeX28 I too noticed this haha. Is that trying to hide poor crash physics or just just trying to hide the poor player performance in the review? hmm... lol.
I can't wait to get this.
How good would it have been if Champions mode included the like of Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Alberto Ascari etc
Where is the Pitbabes and the realistic crash?
When did Danny start doing reviews?
Reviewer don't say, but again I guess it's not this year that we can save race replays to see them later...
I don't know if Consoles could handle this, but surely PCs, powerful and usually with big enough Hard Drives spaces (if not cheap External HD are available) surely can...
3Minotaur3
FORZA4 on the xbox lets you save every replay, even online races so it must be a decsion of the developer instead! Crying shame though because there's nothing better than watching where you went wrong!
5 races in, no "bugs" experienced yet...... 360 version. Love it!
I have bought the game and I can tell this review is sooooooo bad !!! I mean it's like the reviewer has played like 5 minutes or so...Of course graphics and gameplay are incredible and I would love to play a completed polished game but this is not the case. So I suggest you: DON'T BUY THIS GAME !!! It's ful of big bugs that make the game very disappointing. I won't write here in detail about all the bugs and problems. If you want to know check this for exemple ????http://community.codemasters.com/t5/F1-2012-General-Discussion/Regarding-Codemasters-quot-Allow-me-to-explain-quot/m-p/84542/highlight/false#M20448 and there are A LOT of people complaining and begging for a patch. I love F1 but this game is a joke from codemasters. 35 euros stolen. I go back to F1 2011 and Guild Wars 2. See ya all
A great game i can't wait to grab it !
Looks like a great game, but all the English accents make it seem boring. What is this, masterpiece theatre?
dmblum1799 No idiot, you were just hearing the British teams. And the Skysports anaylst, who is britsih.
Never payed an F1 game but this one has my interest. I'll be givng it a try.
Too bad the damage is so bad :|
rain weather graphics look kickass!
F1 SINGAPORE is in 8 hours...anyone watching it? :D
Awesome review danny. Now on to the game. THIS LOOKS GLORIOUS. Not just the amazing realistic graphics and sound, but the gameplay looks fantastic too. However the large bulk of people enjoying this game will be F1 fans.
I just bought the game!!! I haven't tried it yet because Gran Turismo has been installing for 1 hour on my ps3, but will try it tomorrow.!
@ 3:43 , it sounds like Danny O'Dwyer himself. I was thinking, "WHOA! I can record my own voice into the game?"
The graphics look really good. Too bad I'm not interested in formula racing.
blastmaster2k2 agreed
Codester_41 blastmaster2k2 F1 is one of those sports thats boring in real life, but makes an excellent video game, you should try it.
f1 2012 is really.... good
In the age of Need for Speed 'Most Wanted' and 'The Run' where mindless racing seems to be the norm, F1 2011/12 delivers an authentic racing experience unlike any other game out on the market. Kudos to the Codemasters for setting yet another benchmark in racing.
freak_03 most wanted is awesome.
'Most Wanted' is a lot of fun to play. But not quite satisfying as a racing game, if you know what I mean. I do agree that one is arcade racer while another is a sim.
freak_03 I'm so fed up of racing game with the stupid drifting and useless Nitros(which got popular because of the stupid movie Fast and Furious)... It's too bad we don't have more games like Forza and Gran Turismo. It seems almost every racing game is about modding your car(BIG LOL@ people thinking they are cool because their exhaust is making noise....) or getting away from the police. I like my racing games to be realistic, like my flight sims!
I was going to buy an F1 game but since it just made a return to gaming, I wanted to wait until Codemasters ironed out issues. I haven't played an F1 racing game for almost 15yrs and most of the popular drivers I knew are now retired. Looks like I'll need a new driving wheel.
Decent racer, but again it's spoiled by silly bugs (this time in the weather system), and it only really seems to work on short races (25% or lower). Why don't reviewers ever mention the bugs in a game these days?
8.5.com
Danny is a quick story teller. Go Danny GO!
I've played a lot of racing and f1 games in my time and i'm just a bit bored with these games now. I played 2010 and it was ok despite the occasional glitch, poor out of car sections and the fact that you couldn't actually control your car fully in the pits.
But instead of adding all these new modes and missions, why don't they add somthing that the true f1 fan would appreciate? Like maybe a classic f1 mode where they have old f1 cars and old circuits. At least that would be some new content and more cars and variety in the game.
this like the previous games feels terrible with a proper force feedback wheel. No telemetry exporting option into MoTEc and the physics is daft. This is a game purely for "casuals". Rather stick with rFactor or GTR with the F1 mod.
another game, another 8.5...!
Another year, another F1 game..!
bloody_roar_fan And Fifa, and COD....
twiglet015 bloody_roar_fan and Madden, don't forget Madden.
FuryX-4 twiglet015 bloody_roar_fan AND DON'T FORGET MMO.
Vherion FuryX-4 twiglet015 bloody_roar_fan Unlike those games, F1 isn't saturating the market.
Snaptrap Vherion FuryX-4 twiglet015 bloody_roar_fan not to mention good racing games are hard to come by...
I wonder if the tire clashes actually work this time around. 2010's version, acted more like closed wheel cars, then open wheeled ones. You're not supposed to be able to bump into other car's Tires with your own without one of the cars going airborne. Seems that they never model that effect in these games. Cars always bounce off each other like they have invisible fenders....
So, did they fix that aspect? Because F1 racing isn't F1 racing if that's not modeled in.
Threesixtyci Monaco Grand Prix on the Dreamcast had the best collisions of that kind ever. I remember my go-to strategy to liven up a boring race was to attempt to send cars airborne by bumping wheels. Tragically overlooked in too many F1 games since.
