Belkin first out the gate with Lightning accessories, a new dock and car charger arriving later this month

Well known accessory manufacturer “Belkin” has announced that it will soon be shipping the first official third party accessories based on Apple’s Lightning connector cable. The first accessories will be a rather innovative charge and sync dock and a car charger.

I saved the donuts. I had my iPhone 5 in my hands, and a box of donuts, and everything began to fall, and I saved the donuts, and my iPhone 5 screen shattered. Apple replaced it for me, but it was expensive, and if I'd been using a case (or if I valued donuts less!) I could have avoided the cracked screen, the cost, and having to tell you this story now. But I didn't, it did, and I do. Sigh.

So now I'm looking for the perfect case to protect my replacement iPhone 5 without getting in my way about it. First up is the Seidio CONVERT Combo for iPhone 5.

iPad mini Smart Covers priced at $39

Nestled among all of the announcements today was a newly-designed Smart Cover for the iPad mini. They'll be available for $39 at launch in pink, green, blue, light gray, dark gray and (PRODUCT) RED. The only real difference with the original Smart Cover is that it's ditching the aluminum hinge and has a full wrap-around of the polyurethane fabric instead.

Apple decided not to make a dock for the iPhone 5, leaving that potential market wide open to third party accessory makers. iPhone5mod is hoping to fill that particular void with the Flash Lightning Dock for iPhone 5. Not only does it include an Apple-like white dock, but an optional Lightning cable that actually glows.

Nexia Home (formerly Schalge LiNK) has been my go-to system for home automation for quite some time. I first checked it out quite a while ago, and more recently, Georgia got to test the setup for herself. While the Nexia system gave us an indoor camera (both wired and wireless), thermostat, lamp module and door locks -- it was still lacking in the sensor department. All that has changed now however as Nexia has recently released both a door/window sensor and an indoor motion sensor. Both of these really add some great versatility to the whole setup, and with the addition of an outdoor wireless camera, Nexia is staying on top of their game.
