ABSTRACT
At Siggraph 2012, Panasonic Silicon Valley Labs demonstrated a table top interface for new 3D interactive user experience. It enables virtual reality 3D graphics, 3D audio, natural free-hand 3D interactions, and it is a cloud based hub for personal devices to enable social interactions between multiple users. Possible applications include kiosks, virtual tourism, shopping, education, training, environment simulation, and data visualization.
In this event the team from Panasonic will talk about the rapid prototyping process of developing this demo, the process of building new user experience, and details of the technologies developed for this prototype. And you will have chance to play with this prototype in person.
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
David Kryze heads the Universal Design Group at Panasonic Silicon Valley Laboratory. He works with a multi-disciplinary team on the application of user centered design practices to the creation of new product concepts leveraging emerging technologies with a specific focus on user experience. Previously he worked on speech recognition research as a software engineer at Panasonic. He holds his M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique, Telecom Paristech, and the Eurecom Institute in France (1997-99).
Andrea Melle is a software engineer with experience in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Vision and Computer Graphics. He is currently working in the Panasonic Silicon Valley Laboratory doing research and new concept development around natural user interfaces and interactive systems. Before that, he worked as a web/mobile designer and developer in an Italian creative firm. Andrea holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Cinema and Media Engineer from the Polytechnics of Turin, Italy (2009) and a M.Sc. in Multimedia Engineering from Institute Eurecom, France (2011).
Yue Fei is a lead engineer at Panasonic Silicon Valley Labs. He works on technologies enabling new user experience, user interaction. Previously he developed one of the first 3D Desktop user interface(2004). Yue Fei holds Ph.D. (2005) in Space Physics from Rice University with emphasis on 3D visualization and computational fluid dynamics. B.S.(1999) in Physics from Fudan University, China.
