Pikmin 3 sprouting spring 2013

Nintendo confirms new Wii U real-time strategy not making it out in 2012, but rather early next year.

Pikmin 3 won't sprout until 2013. During the latest Iwata Asks session, it was confirmed that Nintendo's new Wii U real-time strategy game will arrive during spring 2013. Previously, the game was confirmed only for Nintendo's nebulous Wii U "launch window" that runs from November 2012 through April 2013.

Pikmin 3 for the Wii U was announced during Nintendo's 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing in June. It is a direct sequel to 2004's GameCube title Pikmin 2 and introduces new features like a Rock Pikmin, which can be used to destroy hard objects.

The game is fully playable with just the Wii U GamePad, but can also be directed with a Wii MotionPlus controller. Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto said the game skipped online multiplayer because having numerous small creatures onscreen at once would present problems when syncing up over an Internet connection.

I'm pretty sure that this has always been the case... Am I missing something here?

Trickymaster 292 pts

Well fine then, Nintendo. I won't buy Wii U until Pikmin 3 is released. End of story.

grasshopper6 8 pts

well I hope it does sprout early 2013 and not late 2013

I had a bad feeling this was going to happen. The good news is that it will be another AAA software title but there goes my reason for Pre-ordering. Seriously considering keeping my Wii U boxed for Ebay.

Or hold onto it since you might have a hard time finding one when the game does come out.

Redsyrup 34 pts

abHS4L88  I'll probably still keep it.

It's basically a Wii title moved to Wii U, which I'm okay with. They did the same thing with GC's Paper Mario and Zelda TP to Wii.

It's odd though that it's only 720p and no online support. The online support would have been just super.

abHS4L88 1860 pts

SolidTy Maybe Pikmin 4 will have it :3

SolidTy 1174 pts

abHS4L88 Perhaps, if Pikmin 4 doesn't get delayed and released on next next Gens Wii U 2. :3

Well considering that Pikmin 2 came out not too long after Pikmin, I don't think that'll happen if Pikmin 3 does very well.

SolidTy 1174 pts

abHS4L88 That's what we hope. Then again, the Wii never really got a Pikmin game the whole generation, other than the Pikmin GC ports. :(

abHS4L88 1860 pts

Which I still need to buy (well only the 2nd one).

We haven't seen an F-Zero or Star Fox either but I'm pretty sure Nintendo will show at least one of those titles at E3, most likely F-Zero since Iwata stated that they never made one for the Wii due to its hardware and that they wanted the next F-Zero to be a huge step above GX.

The Wii U is (hopefully) looking like the console that Nintendo really goes full force with their IPs since they do pretty much have a franchise that covers nearly every genre of gaming (except for horror :P) and if they're really serious about bringing back the "core gamer", that's exactly what they'll do along with creating new IPs (excited to see what Miyamoto is going to reveal to us).

Awesome.  I really want this game.  Very badly.  That, and Earthbound for virtual console (like now, Nintendo).  In any case, I'm psyched.

abHS4L88 1860 pts

Gives me more time to finish my Wii games (since my Wii broke the other day and stopped reading my games DX). Still want to play Pikmin 2 before this one comes out since I've never played a Pikmin game O_O

Although they said that The Little King's Story is similar to Pikmin and I absolutely LOVE that game so can't wait!

It's just a kid friendly take on the RTS genre. I own all the PIkmin's. I got them at launch.

Fun series for what it is, although Pikmin games are super easy. I also own Little Kings Story. I don't really see the connection to be honest.

Check out Starcraft, Starcraft II, Command and Conquer, Company of Heroes and more if you like the game.

Sux we have to wait for so long between launch and this game considering the only other major 1st party developed Nintendo game is Super Mario Wii U.

This game won't have online support which is a bit sucky though...and it's 720p which surprised some fans.

abHS4L88 1860 pts

 SolidTy

I haven't played Pikmin yet so I don't know if there is a connection, besides commanding your own army to do your bidding while actively controlling your King/Captain.

I used to play Command and Conquer a long time ago and always loved it since I love strategy type games, but never really got back into it since my internet is extremely annoying and likes to disconnect on me. Plus I'm not willing to invest countless hours on these games so I avoid them for that reason also :P

I have no fuss over the online and resolution, the game looks great either way and I'll have a blast playing it on my own with both the GamePad and WiiMotion Plus (since both offer different play styles).

While I do wish there were like 1-2 more major 1st party games, I get why Nintendo has done this and hopefully it works.

SolidTy 1174 pts

abHS4L88 The lack of 1st party developed games at launch is strange considering the two biggies basically seem like Wii to Wii U wares. At the very least, neither are cutting edge Wii U games.

I would have thought an exclusive Wii U bada** game would have made a debut by now, maybe next year.

As far as your history with RTS.

C&C;, Starcraft 1/2, Company of Heroes, and other games have fabulous Single Player campaigns if you have shoddy internet. :P

abHS4L88 1860 pts

 SolidTy

They're basically giving the attention to the 3rd parties, to create a userbase that not only will just get Nintendo games but also 3rd party games. Imagine if they launched with a AAA Nintendo title, that would take majority of the attention, but since they didn't, much of the attention is focused on 3rd party games. If this succeeds, then it can only serve to strengthen 3rd party support for the console and since it basically does have about a year ahead of the next Playstation/XBox, this is an excellent way to get more developers on board.

It's not only my internet, I recall how many hours I've wasted on RTS games and being much more busy now than I used to be (along with wanting to finish my other games), I do my best to avoid these types of games. My brother even wanted me to start playing League of Legends but I refused since I see how much time him and my sister waste on it.

Flint247 413 pts

While I like online multiplayer games, this game doesn't have to have online multiplayer. However, I believe more Single Player-focused games need to have DLC, whether it is free or a small price, to help keep them going and have replay value. Lately, after I beat a game, I usually move on to a different game because sometimes it is hard for me to play it again (refering to single player-only games). Very so often will I play a game over and over again.

this and monster hunter... whenever that comes out and I am SET.

I wasn't planning on getting a WiiU until next year anyways. So no loss there. Maybe I'll make this my first game for it.

Wingus-T-Dingus 8 pts

I think it's time for me to hold off on getting the Wii U til spring  with Rayman Legends first delayed and now this. I can't merit buying a new console for 007 Legends and Sonic Racing Transformed. Sorry Nintendo you just lost a Pre-order sale

DevaGolgotha 98 pts

Wingus-T-Dingus Oh well.  The tens of millions are heard much clearer than you.  I think Ninty's good.

Redsyrup 34 pts

Wingus-T-Dingus Reconsidering now too. This was a key launch title for me. With this slippage it makes me wonder what the Big N has up it's sleeve for holiday 2013. I hope it's more than Smash Bros.

Considering that the Wii was still hard to find over a year after it launched (my brother bought our Wii in 2008 and he lucked out when he found one), it would be best to secure one now if you can afford it that way you're all set when the games you want come out.

Even though I might not be able to afford it when it launches, I'm still going to get it since I don't to have to get lucky just to get my hands on one. (Credit card and sister helping me out :P)

Funny, Sony puts 256 players online in an army shooter with thousands of bullets at once, but Nintendo can't put 16 little aliens at once....FAIL

9 Years since last Pikmin and they still can't make launch window....instead we get another sidescrolling Mario....we are just lemmings jumping off a cliff....follow along....lol Ya, can't wait....chuckle

What has this got to do with this topic?

Spring isn't far away, so chill out. Besides, there are other titles that keep you playing until that time.

Actually, the game allows you to control up to 100 pikmin at one time. And online processing is very different from in game processing so your argument is invalid.

"numerous small creatures onscreen at once would present problems when syncing up over an Internet connection." doesn't every rts present numerous small creatures and have online nowadays?? what a bs lazy excuse lol! but oh well excited for this anyways :)

comb5 203 pts

Bangerman15 Yeah, but how many RTS games can you think of for consoles? Only a few come to my mind.

ziproy 352 pts

I thankfully have more than 3 REAL friends so no onlince play means nothing

kavadias1981 347 pts

Regarding the online multiplayer debate, the game really doesn't need it. It is the sort of game that makes for a far more enjoyable experience when played together locally; friends and family laughing together. That is Pikmin, that is Nintendo, not the cold, lonely, abuse ridden experience delivered by online multiplayer.

But that is just my experience of the service on PS3. Perhaps other people prefer that but it certainly hasn't won me over in the 4 years since I bought said console.

warhawk-geeby 404 pts

kavadias1981 Half agree with you here, Pikmin doesn't need online play, it's brilliant as it is sitting side by side with a buddy.  I will disagree with the service on the PS3, had many great online experiences on that console.  Warhawk, Medal of Honor, Motorstorm..  Quite a long list really to name them all.  If the servers are good the games are good :)  Some are dire though I admit..

kavadias1981 347 pts

It shouldn't be too much of an issue. The Wii U has a robust set of launch window games already so they will tide us over just fine until Pikmin 3.

kavadias1981 347 pts

DarkSaber2k Let me rephrase that. They will ME over until Pikmin 3 lol

Superzone 413 pts

No biggy.  We've already waited 8 years for this game, so what's another couple months?  As long as the game is polished more this is great news.

HonorOfGod 181 pts

"Pikmin 3 comes to life next year." ... *puts my wallet away* ..lets talk next year Nintendo I am not about to get a Wii U with no 1st party games and little info on the CPU. Until next year Nintendo bye bye!

Don't reply me with Mario... no thanks! My brother has the Wii version we play it when I go over his place.

SaverofHumens 14 pts

So long as the game is polished and amazing like the first 2 games, I think I can wait.

I absolutely cannot wait! This is one of those games that makes me super excited for the Wii U, and really glad I already have my pre-order ready to roll on November 18th!

"Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto said the game skipped online multiplayerbecause having numerous small creatures onscreen at once would present problems when syncing up over an Internet connection."

What about Starcraft?  And Starcraft 2?  And Warcraft?  This is what bothers me about Nintendo.  This crap was perfected 15 years ago, yet they act like online play is some unattainable future technology, like flying cars or VR helmets.

EasyComeEasyGo 138 pts

Nintendo is not going for Raw Power Online that Sony and MS have, Nintendo can't follow Sony, MS footsteps with Online and to give you an idea why hear is a link that will explain and this is coming from SolidTy which I like to thank him for that link in the article Wii price drop.

But really is Pikmin 3 needs an Online? No but maybe a Pokemon game but still.
