Capcom profits jump 355 percent
Publisher hauls $51.3 million profit on $570 million in revenue for six-month period ended September 30; Dragon's Dogma "exceeding expectations."
Resident Evil publisher Capcom enjoyed a healthy first six months of its fiscal year. The company reported earnings today for the six-month period ended September 30, revealing profits surged 355 percent to ¥4.125 billion ($51.3 million) on revenue of ¥45.538 billion ($570 million). That figure is up 55.7 percent from the same period a year ago.
Capcom called out Resident Evil 6 and Dragon's Dogma in its earnings report, reiterating that the former has shipped 4.5 million units worldwide as of October 4. Additionally, the company said Dragon's Dogma has benefited from popularity that is "exceeding expectations" and reiterated that the role-playing game has shipped over one million units.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City may not have won over critics, but the game continues to see a "steady growth" in sales, Capcom said. Further, downloadable content for the game has enjoyed "stable popularity," the company said, with these offering contributing to improved profit figures.
In the social game space, Capcom said Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive has now amassed more than 2 million registered members. Additionally, the firm touted Minna to Monhan Card Master as a boon, saying that game has been "steadily gaining" new users.
just give us powerstone 1 on xbox live
corteztheg
yes, they need to release both powerstone games on PSN/XBL/STEAM and make them MULTIPLAYER ONLINE compatible. Best party brawler ever made, Smash bros aint got nothing on PS series
Capcom pretty much started to die after killing Megaman off. Never played Dragon's Dogma but I'm still a RE fan. They have plenty of good old games for the nostalgic ones like me, so, even if their great series end up badly, I'll always have emulators to cope with.
I did like Dragon's Dogma. It is definately not my GOTY, though. It just felt very, very unpolished. I guess that shouldn't be a big surprise for a new IP. I am glad to see it do well and get a sequel because I think they will do it one or even two better.
Good for DD considering it wasn't advertised much. The game has a lot of potential and hopefully they'll release a sequel with a lot more improvements.
i knew that people would still buy Resident Evil games no more how bad they are. You know Capcom will only bring out more bad games if you keep on encouraging them.
And to anyone that wants to start a flame war, keep in mind that I don't hate Capcom because it's "cool" to do so (I never wanted to hate them ever because they were one of my favorite companies); I grew up with that company loving their games, what they have been doing the past few years was one misstep after another, from cancelling a bunch of Mega Man games despite the fact he is still popular to allowing their other franchises to look completely different in style and content (outsourcing a game isn't a big problem if the original creator is involved or the game they are working on will satisfy the 'niche' as well as the originals did; not the case for DMC obviously IMHO) .
Anyway, all that aside, Capcom has a long way to go to win back the trust of the fans that have loved their games for the right reasons, and if it has to start with reviving an overlooked classic like Okami, then so be it.
I would make yet another scathing Capcom comment, but they DID actually do something right with the help of Hexa Drive with Okami HD. Give us Onimusha and Viewtiful Joe in HD and maybe, just MAYBE, I will start forgiving you.
Remember how well the first Crackdown sold? thats why Dragons Dogma did well.
Dragon's Dogma FTW!!! Funny thing is last year I only heard about this game because it was going to be bundled with passcode for RE6, but after watching the trailer I was sold and was like this is Monster Hunter lite. This game is so freaking good, while it needs a much much larger world to traverse in and allow more things to be affected by your actions and a hop in hop out co-op. Seriously I was impressed by the game play, the weapon upgrading, armor and enemies, not all enemies were smart as the Dragon types. I hope Capcom does this series justice, I haven't bought a single piece of DLC as I don't see the point since I beat the game twice already on my main PSN and half way through on my sub account. I'm trying to see how to get different results on some of the quests and some quests are still rock hard to complete since you have idea where to begin searching, lol. Love the armor nod to Sword of the Berserk, wished that they also tossed in the armor and weapons of the Sengoku Basara series in there too. I am awaiting Dark Arisen DLC, if that is priced under $10 and brings even more to the map, like what is beyond that damned Shadow Fort gate I am game.
Spoiler alert, I loved how if you do not defeat the Griffin on the Hunt mission the first time you encounter it, you have to chase it all the way to Blue Moon Tower, epic battle. I hope Dark Arisen ups the difficulty that scales to your level to keep things interesting. Also I was a bit upset I wasn't able to search about in the GreatWall right after I defeat the Wights of salvation, that cut scene comes in too quickly forcing me to kill one at a time, lol. Next play through, but for now I will traverse the everfall for all those sweets armors I saw at the pawn store. Love the random way things can happen, I saw a Griffin preying on those Saurian next to Gran Soren, random pawns fighting with wolves and bandits.
A sequel to this game should just build on everything that makes this one so good and just capitalize, flesh out the story some more but I completely understood the stood it all. It's just basically a circle of life thing Arisen chosen to fight the dragon and he chooses between his love and land. Choices have repercussions and it's just which one can you live with. I want to see what happens in other lands that the Dragon comes to and one thing threw me, the Arisen is the Dragon?!? This game must get a sequel and none of the weird armor DLC either, real additions like more story and map to traverse even enemies and weapons.
Bring Dragon's Dogma to PC!
So happy Dragon's Dogma did well, it's the game I've most enjoyed this year. It has so much potential in sequels, especially on a next gen platform (technologically speaking, so not Wii U) as you could tell some things had to be toned down due to the limitations of this gen.
"Additionally, the company said Dragon's Dogma has benefited from popularity that is "exceeding expectations" and reiterated that the role-playing game has shipped over one million units."
Don't think that's very accurate of them to say, before release in interviews they were talking 5 million+ sold, ridiculous I know but those were the numbers they were throwing around.
You guys are going to love this http://www.gamespot.com/news/ea-posts-381-million-loss-6399243
Shango4 I actually posted the one on IGN yesterday. It is very happy news indeed.

Dragons Dogma is a game i still go back to and play. Anyone who likes an action RPG with little story but alot of fighting should get a good kick from it.
thingta42 i m still playing that game since may.
I like that Dragon's Dogma had success but I don't like Capcom's business practices. They are just going to continue, especially after seeing that profit.
shadow580 Nobody hates Capcom's franchises, we just feel bad for them. It's Modern Day Capcom that we hate.
I've said this many times before, terrible business practices never stay the same (and for damn sure don't get better) they only get worse when successful. Capcom started off with DLC costumes, now they lock whatever content that provides value.
Fanboys are not only supporting Capcom's business practices, they're even defending them on the internet. Fanboys are just as shady as the company that they're defending, they will lie and with hold certain facts about them just so they can hustle you into supporting them.
The only game I'll ever buy from them (after what they did with Street Fighter X tekken) is a new darkstalkers, and even then I'd wait till the "ultimate super special awesome fudge coated mega super Edition".
ABEzilla116 Lol, "fudge coated" that's a good one!
Don't care too much about the other games, but I'm so happy that Dragon's Dogma sold well. That game was absolutely amazing, and didn't get as much press as their other games. Good to see that quality doesn't go unnoticed.
Maelstrom52 I also glad Dragon's Dogma did well. It could be better on the story front, but the gameplay makes up for it. I'll buy the next Dragon's Dogma.
a lot of this hate was generated by fans and people themselves they just WANT a reason to hate and complain on capcom. Cause its cool to hate on capcom,, companies, and AAA games. I remember when people played games for fun, and didn't B*** about everything about a game. instead now we have , "IM ENTITLED TO THIS, MAKE A GAME LIKE THIS LIKE THAT, COMPANIES ARE EVIL, I WANT TO MOVE WHILE SHOOTING, I WANT TANK CONTROLS BACK" calm the f down and stop taking games seriously, its like politics with video games now its fing sad.
Albelnox0 It's obviously easy to say that when you don't even pay attention to what fans are complaining about. And at the same time, making stuff up along the way.
I guess ignorance is truly bliss.
@Strider8009 agreed
Strider8009 sorry but I like play games not based on what other people want. I've been an RE fan for a long time and have laughed at so many hypocritical statements on the hate on RE6. I've recently did a marathon replaying all my RE games 1-6, and trust me i ran into so many things that have been done before in past REs, that people are complaining with 6. The fans don't know what they want or they are just complaining just for the sake of complaining so they can look cool amongst everyone else. Go visit some twitch streams and no matter what game the streamer is playing everyone will try bashing the game just so they can look powerful and cool. People need to get minds of their own either that or stop trying so hard to fit into "society". For example, "people were complaining about not being able to move while shooting, and now everyone wants tank controls back." seriously everyone else and you jsut want a reason to bash on capcom. Its no longer about games in general its just about overempowering a company for no fing reason but just to feel good about yourself and to have popularity contest amongst your friends. And don't fing deny it cause if you do then i guess your write, ignorance is bliss along side with your HYPOCRISY!!! Hypocrite.
Albelnox0 What you just said is another example of you making things up and not listening to what people are saying.
Strider8009 Don't talk if you don't know anything about RE. And try to make me look like im "making stuff up" when everything i've listed is in past RE games too. I give people like you in the gaming community the technical term and title of, Holocaust Denier.
Albelnox0 Making things up as usual I see.
I could point out how inaccurate you are, but you'll just end up ignoring it. There's no point in arguing with fanboys, it's just a waste of time. Might as well just point out how ridiculous their behavior is.
Strider8009 So your saying that leon never jumps on a gigantos back and slashes at its weak spot while mashing a button all kratos style? That people wanted to move while aiming, and now they want tank controls back? Sorry bro but you sir a Holocaust Denier
Albelnox0 No, you're a fanboy, that's all. You make things up, (and it's nice to see you still doing so BTW) so you can make it seem like the criticism about something that you love so dearly is false.
That right there is true denial.
Strider8009 Again your saying that Leon, in RE4, that you can't jump on the back of a Gigantos when its down, and slash at its weak spot with Leon's knife while mashing a button are you sure about that cause im not the one looking bad right now.
Albelnox0 * facepalm*
Strider8009
Yup you can jump on the back of a gigantos and hit his week spot all Kratos style with QTE
Seems like every Capcom fanboy is buying each Modern Day Capcom game more than once.
Good for them, i'm not a big fan of their games anymore but i won't forget those awesome games they made: Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Capcom VS, Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter too many great games Capcom is definitely one of the best game developers ever.
Glad to see an amazing game like RE 6 do well despite the " it's cool to hate on big named games" bandwagon! Bring on RE 7!
rah_xephon23 If the game is good it would be impossible to find haters and everyone will praise it, but that is not the case, as simple as that.
@alenth I disagree, there would be haters still just a lot LOT fewer haters.
alenth Being too negative about one game is really increasing the level of dickery of yourself you know.
alenth Most importantly, have you even played the game yet? I bet you never even touch it but you just talk and talk and talk like an asshole without even knowing the reason why. You definitely have the "I don't watch it, but I hate it anyway" mentality, you don't actually look at what you are bashing. Instead of accusing people who likes RE6 of being fanboys, If you want to comment on the quality of something, try to actually watch/read/play/listen to at least a substantial part of that work, especially when the number of person that defend it is this many. If not, then you are what you accuse these people of: a hypocrite troll.
rah_xephon23 If you feel RE6 was an amazing game I feel you must not have played any of the original games and don't know what made RE good and made people fans of the franchise. RE6 is a game, but not a Resident Evil game. It just uses the title and characters but throws what people loved about it out the window. That is why people don't like it. People don't want another action game clone. People wanted another game that felt like a Resident Evil game and was actually a horror game again, not a blockbuster zombie action game.
Nope, played every RE since the 1st. way back in the 90's .I see the newer RE's as a evolution of the series. Besides all my friends like RE 6 so I assume most are living in the past or never played the game.
RE6 is proof that you can put the RE name on a pile of crap and it will sell
Capcom is now the EA of Japan... I will never accept the crap they did with SFXTekken and... 3 frigging versions of SF4... nope, I am done capcom!
Dragon's Dogma was a good game, but the RE games released this year? That's incredibly unexpected, to be honest I barely found them to be playable, much less enjoyable.
Ok, Capcom, now jump in the console market with your own machine!
l3igl3oss are you insane?!!!
RitsukoEX l3igl3oss On the bright side it might out them under and our favorite franchises can be laid to rest before Capcom completely runs them into the ground and makes us hate the games we grew up with.
RitsukoEX Yes, I am insane, I see I forgot to add the sarcasm tags... Nevertheless, if too much money is putting them in a position of "We dont care for the franchises quality until our profits start declining", then perhaps a big investment, like a console, will make them work harder, because they have something to keep, rather than let it drown them. But if this applies to them, then off course others could have entered the race earlier. Neo Geo kept and keeps trying and they´re not as wealthy...
