Tony Hawk HD hits the over 100k mark in its first week

Tony Hawk HD hits the over 100k mark in its first week photo

Only in its first week of sales up to this point, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD has already sold a total of 120,000 downloads. Apparently, its day-to-day sales have also managed to stay consistent since last Wednesday. It's worth noting that these sales are only for the Xbox Live Arcade version, as the PSN and PC releases have not launched yet. Pretty good for an HD remake of a fourteen year old game that we found to not particularly live up to the original games.

Personally, I found the remake to be insanely frustrating at times, and full of small, annoying bugs that did hinder the experience a bit. Despite that, I would say I enjoyed my time with Tony Hawk HD, especially since it's not a full retail release. It's absolutely worth it for the nostalgia alone, and it appears 120,000 other people would agree with that.

Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)

My only gripe is the controller. Analogue is unnatural for Tony Hawk. The d-pad is unresponsive and shreds your thumb to pieces. I think it was worth the price and although career and projectives weren't particularly challenging, the achievements were and the leaderboard adds longevity.
I still play the original Pro Skater. I don't want anything to tarnish my love of it.
120k people don't know XBLA games have demos, surely.

The jankiest game I have ever played. Got THPS2 on DC, iPhone and J will grab THPS2X if I see it.
If they had been smart enough to get Neversoft to put this together, I think we would have been talking about breaking XBLA records.

For me, this was one of the biggest gaming disappointments of the year. The perfect mechanics were what made THPS THPS. After trying the demo, it just felt like I was playing some cheap Chinese knockoff with the same level designs.
I'm really enjoying it. I spent about fifteen hours maxing out a few characters, finishing their objectives, finishing their projectives, and musing with a few other modes. This isn't including multiplayer, and right now a few of my old school Tony Hawk friends and I are competing over leaderboards.

I'm looking for new lines just like the old days, and I'm loving it. I'm also working my way through every game in the series, and found myself liking "HD" in a different way compared to the first two original games.

It has a lot of negatives, but ultimately it's a different experience, and I enjoy that.
No splitscreen = fuck you. Glad others are enjoying it. I'll be playing 4 on pc.
I don't get why they couldn't just release HD remakes of Pro Skater 1 & 2. I would buy those immediately.
Wonder how many of those folks felt when no HORSE mode either.
Why does T-Hawk look like he's dying of AIDs?
Clearly the Tony Hawk brand still means something. Hopefully this means the franchise will get a proper reboot next gen that does the THPS1-THUG1 games justice.
it got 100k because people figured there would be local multiplayer AND HORSE.. you know... the 2 best things about tony hawk games? i got suckered into wasting $15. sure it didnt say local multiplayer before i bought it, but it also didnt say one of the modes thats been in since thps1 would be removed. so now the game in unplayable to me since my friend isnt gonna get it once we noticed theres no local multiplayer. so now i wasted $15. friggin activision.
it sold so much thanks to poor suckers like me who just assumed it would be awesome, and downloaded it without checking reviews first *sighs* u_u
Too bad that everyone hates this game ... It isn't bad at all.. And the review on Destructoid was laughable. (Reviewer just sucked at the game and took his anger out on the review.) There are some glitches that need to be fixed, But I beat "Projectives" mode easily, (which is getting something like 500,000 In 2 mins) If people gave it a chance and didn't make an opinion after ONE review, they would like it too...
I'd love to form an opinion of the game if it came out on PSN already. Til then I've got THPS 1-4 that I can go back to if I really need a nostalgia trip.

While I want to say "poor, misguided, people", I do hope they take this as a sign that this is the type of skating game we want to play (but, you know, cleaner, with better controls and way in it then what we got here), and that it only got "old" was because they really stopped thinking up new, interesting, areas and shit for us to do..

I really hope this means a revival to the series as it should be (but, you know, cleaned up...)

@Phil

The last decades been kinda hard on Tony :(
