Harmonix adjusting Rock Band Blitz coin economy

Harmonix adjusting Rock Band Blitz coin economy photo

Harmonix has made an update to Rock Band Blitz today which adjusts the game's economy. Responding to players who have complained about the cost/benefit ratio of Coin expenses and awards in regards to using power-ups (which are a necessity for any high-level play), the developer has standardized the cost of power-ups across all songs as well as their rewards, which now pay out 100 Coins per star earned. This balancing of the economy will be executed server-side, meaning there is no actual patch necessary for players on any platform.

The changes should ensure that players who play well maintain their Coin bank while those who need more practice will be getting that opportunity when they have to earn back up a bit. The rewards for participating in a Score War have also been doubled, making them a more viable means of earning additional Coins.

These are good adjustments. Between accomplishing Rock Band World Goals, a decent collection of DLC tracks and my habit of practicing a song once or twice before trying to achieve Gold Stars, I haven't really struggled with my Coin bank. But if you're having a hard time getting enough, Harmonix seems to have your back on it.

This is awesome for me. I find it fun going for the Gold Stars but every time I fail I had to go and play a few other songs to get my coins back up. Since I'm currently low on money in the pocket, I can't afford new songs to keep it fresh so it has resulted in me playing 'The Wicker Man' way too many times.
How can anyone like this game? Seriously. First off, they blindside you every five seconds with requests to beat a friends score, only to find out you don't own the song they want you to play and you need to buy it. Then to make matter worse, they lock a lot of the achievements behind a pay wall, which I thought Microsoft doesn't let developers do. If you want to unlock all of the achievements, be prepared to cough up some moolah!

"Oh, whats that, you need more coins and stat!? Don't worry, just buy these new songs from us and we'll give you just what you need!" Fuck You Harmonix. It's practically a free to play game they are asking you to pay for, and then they don't stop annoying you to buy more and more and more and more. It is one of the worst examples of what is going to happen to ALL paid games in the near future. Nobody is making a fucking fuss when these greedy publishers and developers are shoving micro transactions into paid games, so naturally publishers are jumping at the chance to do it.

Nobody made a peep when Mass Effect 3 launched with micro transaction in a game you just paid over $60 for. Nobody made a peep when Battlefield 3 patched in micro transaction for a game you already paid over $60 for. Next thing we know, they are all going to do this. They are all going to start asking for more money after the initial payment. And they are going to do this by making it hard to play the game without paying.

They will start slowing down unlocks in shooters, for example. Where it used to take a few good matches to unlock that scope you want, not it will take triple the time, but don't worry, you can just pay $2 and unlock it right away! Oh, you want hollow point bullets for the next match? Well you COULD play the game for another 5 hours to unlock them naturally, or just pay us $3 and have them for good!!!

This scheme is dirty even in a free to play game, but in a PAID FUCKING GAME!?!?!?!?
ROCK BAND HAS DLC? WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?!
Xbox has Dlc? BLACK MAGIC
First they came for the casuals,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a casual.

Then they came for the multiplayers,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a multiplayer.

Then they came for the solo completionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a solo completionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

Whew! I was worried something was broken and I missed my opportunity to exploit it.
@Conrad Zimmerman .... Zing
Plus one to Conrad. Hell, plus ALL the ones to Conrad.
Oh, Conrad, you handsome devil you.
@EKGProd
There are Achievements for DLC only because the game has 500 instead of 400 points.
400 is requiered by the game without DLC. 100 for the DLC.
They did the same with Rock Band 3, which has 1250 instead of 1000 because of DLC.
i tought they meant that they'll reduce the cost of using EACH powerup so they just cost 100 coins...now i see they meant that you get 100 coins per star....MEeeeeeeeeeeeh
When this game was first revealed, I thought it would be the sequel to Frequency & Amplitude that I had been waiting for for years.

Now, I'm pretty sure we'll never get anything like that again. Why can't we just get a stand-alone game and no "server-side" or DLC bullsh@#%*!

Harmonix was great back in the days of Amplitude and Guitar Hero 1. They even pioneered DLC the right way in Rock Band 2. Rock Band Blitz just makes me genuinely sad that thy've jumped the shark so grandly.
20 bucks for a game with 25 more songs attached, that can tap into the entire RB 1,2,3 game songs plus the RBN and PSN/Live store songs....What DLC are they putting a gun to your heads that you HAVE to buy?
